DD says she needs a chairdrobe because it's gross to put worn clothes in the wardrobe

or into drawers. And I reply if they are clean enough to be worn again they should go in the wardrobe.

I might not practise what I preach but I am right. Aren't I?

I've learned a new word - love 'chairdrobe' and I'm with DD! However my daughter has always used the bedroom floordrobe!

AlpacaGoodnight · 20/04/2020 19:00

I used to have a chairdrobe but now me and the kids have our own wicker baskets where worn but not dirty clothes go neatly folded. They are really handy and look nice too. I can't put worn clothes in a drawer or wardrobe

LaurieMarlow · 20/04/2020 19:03

I cannot get my head around the mentality that something is clean enough to be worn, but not clean enough to hang beside other clothes. 🤯

Rachel1874 · 20/04/2020 19:05

I agree with your daughter, I never put worn stuff in a drawer or wardrobe.

Olsi109 · 20/04/2020 19:05

I have “The Chair” too but only if I plan to wear next day. Otherwise it’s in the wash because the mess would annoy me - I do put woolly jumpers back in the bed drawer though because they ruin if washed too much.

EmpressoftheMundane · 20/04/2020 19:08

I agree with your DD. Semi-dirties go on the chair.

AndNowItsHappeningInMine · 20/04/2020 19:11

I've got a drawer that my 'worn once and doesn't need a wash' clothes go in.
I often forget about it and lose things in there so it's always a nice surprise to go 'THERE it is!'

Iseethesilverlining · 20/04/2020 19:12

How about a valet stand like www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/grundtal-valet-stand-stainless-steel-30219455/. I would never put worn clothes in with clean!

Catwaving · 20/04/2020 19:13

I have a section of the wardrobe which is previously worn clothes only, separate from unworn

Works well, but you need to put up pomanders to keep moths away, they like worn clothes.

megletthesecond · 20/04/2020 19:13

Yabu .
Partly worn clothes need a chairdrobe or hooks on the back of the door.

whipdido · 20/04/2020 19:16

Known as the inbetweeny cleany clothes in our house that all go on the chair in the corner 😂

HoneyNutLoop · 20/04/2020 19:24

Sorry OP, another one who agrees with your daughter. I have hooks on the back of the bedroom door rather than a chair-robe because clothes on chairs annoy me. I do love Iseethesilverlining‘s valet stand though.

NearlyGranny · 20/04/2020 19:30

Well, but what does everyone do with their winter coat and smart woollen jackets then? They don't go in the wash, so where do people put them between dry cleans? I hang them on the back of the door for a day to air, then into the wardrobe they go!

madhea · 20/04/2020 19:55

These clothes are for the hooks in the bathroom

TheFredericaQuartet · 20/04/2020 20:02

Would you put a used towel in a pile of clean ones?

No because towels get WET so go on towel rail to be used next day and in wash once a week (whole other thread Grin)

We're talking about clothes that have been worn but are not dirty or smelly.

Hobbitytoes · 20/04/2020 20:04

I'm with you OP. I have managed to put clothes back in wardrobe after wearing for over 40 years and never had moths. My DP collects piles of clothes at his side of the bed and it drives me crazy. It's like living with a manky teenager Sad

TheFredericaQuartet · 20/04/2020 20:08

Why can't she have a chair there are some nice ones

If you'd read the thread @Choccylips you'd know she does have a chairdrobe

Hobbitytoes · 20/04/2020 20:12

So, if you wear a pair of jeans on a Sunday and then are at work all week. Do you leave them lying on a chair all week or is everyone washing after one wear for fear of putting near clean clothes??

TheFredericaQuartet · 20/04/2020 20:18

I don't understand YOU

@MacBlank - okay - no problem Grin

I bet you're the one who puts sweet wrappers back in the bag

No.

Or used matches back in the box

Guilty!

Makeitgoaway · 20/04/2020 20:20

I think she's right too. I also think that if the clothes are neatly on the chair you're winning Grin

Makeitgoaway · 20/04/2020 20:23

I agree, not because the part worn clothes would contaminate but because I need to know which ones have been worn. If they're in the wardrobe I'd think they were clean.

TomPinch · 20/04/2020 20:25

So clothes that are worn once shouldn't go back in the wardrobe. They must be hung on a chair.

So if you wear the same article again, do they have to go on a different chair?

Also, what happens if you want to sit in the chair while wearing clean clothes? Does that mean cross-contamination too?

TomPinch · 20/04/2020 20:27

because I need to know which ones have been worn

I just smell them (it's also how I decide whether to wash something). Is that gross?

Osquito · 20/04/2020 20:28

With your DD. Like the idea of those ladder things, or even a proper short clothesrail/rack, like you used to get in hotels. Are they called valet stands..?

snowybean · 20/04/2020 21:00

I've always had a chair to put worn once clothes on. This chair has always been The One for me:
