DD says she needs a chairdrobe because it's gross to put worn clothes in the wardrobe

or into drawers. And I reply if they are clean enough to be worn again they should go in the wardrobe.

I might not practise what I preach but I am right. Aren't I?

I’m with you DD on this one I only have clean cloths in the wardrobe or in drawers. But I hang worn cloths on the outside door of the wardrobe or leave on the chair.

motherheroic · 20/04/2020 08:37

I agree. Couldn't imagine wearing a t-shirt and then putting it in the wardrobe for a couple of weeks until I decided to wear it again.

JanetheObscure · 20/04/2020 08:46

Blimey. I had no idea that it was so appalling to put worn clothes in the wardrobe.

I've been doing this all my life (I'm quite old Smile).

Lweji · 20/04/2020 09:43

I don't normally wash my woolies regularly, as they are worn in the winter with other clothes under them. So, I tend to pile them on the chair after use and then move to back to the wardrobe when the pile is high enough. Grin I keep anti-moth products in the wardrobe and wash them all at the end of the cold season and the most used at least a couple of times during it.
I try to buy items with a high wool content and they don't tend to smell.

Similar with trousers, skirts and jeans.

T-shirts and anything that comes in contact with the skin is washed every time because they do get smelly. Unless I only wear them for an hour without sweating, in which case I might wear them the following day. But certainly wouldn't put them back anywhere. Hmm

My sons school blazer lives on a coat hanger with a metal hook, I spin it and hang it over the wardrobe door.

JoysOfString · 20/04/2020 09:58

weallhavewings those are perfect for my tiny room - but I couldn’t have one because they make me feel too uncomfortable, I just imagine myself trying to sit on it! :o but they have inspired me to make something similar. I have an old Ikea Ivar side panel that will work. Fab thread :)

lazylinguist · 20/04/2020 15:17

Couldn't imagine wearing a t-shirt and then putting it in the wardrobe for a couple of weeks until I decided to wear it again.

But why? What do you think would happen if you did? Nothing would happen. As confirmed by those of us who have always done this.

I'm currently wearing a pair of trousers that I wore a few days ago and hung back in the wardrobe and a jumper which has been worn twice and put away after each wearing. They look, feel and smell clean. The cuffs of the jumper smell faintly of my perfume. I'll put both in the wash when I take them off today.

VerbenaGirl · 20/04/2020 15:20

I agree with your DD. I can’t stand putting worn clothes back away with clean ones.

Sazza75 · 20/04/2020 17:39

I agree, stuff that has a few days wear stays away from the ‘clean’ stuff.

FelicisNox · 20/04/2020 17:50

#TeamChairobe here too.

silvercollie · 20/04/2020 17:56

Dear me, there are some VERY entitled people on here. How dirty do your clothes become? Or do you sweat a lot?

Section off part of the wardrobe to carry once or maybe twice worn stuff.

Or, dare I say, wash it!

People are so sanitized these days that they barely resemble humans.

Shona52 · 20/04/2020 17:59

If she wants it she buys it herself simple

cressyeggy · 20/04/2020 18:03

You're lucky she has a chair. Mine resembles a floordrobe at the best of times. I drive my DH mad with it but it's the only logical wayGrin

viques · 20/04/2020 18:03

I don't like worn things snuggling up to clean stuff either, I recently stayed in a huge country mansion, gorgeous and a bit shabby chic, and in my room - which incidentally was the size of a barn - I had a small wooden vintage clothes horse in addition to a wardrobe which was probably a narnia shortcut.

So when I got home I stalked eBay and bought one for myself. Brilliant solution, clothes get hung over the clothes horse, so are well aired and I can see what they are. Doesn't take up much room and suits my bedroom.

Gmom · 20/04/2020 18:05

I tell my kids if it’s worn but doesn’t need washing (like jeans) it needs to be off the floor on the chair or dresser. Back in the drawer or closet? Yuck no way. Would you put a used towel in a pile of clean ones?

Yugi · 20/04/2020 18:06

I put some hooks on the side of my wardrobe (outside) for this, usually have three or four things hanging up there.

they're on the opposite side from my bedroom door so it doesn't look untidy.

Swiftier · 20/04/2020 18:11

I’m surprised how many people wouldn’t put worn clothes back in the wardrobe. I have lots of nice, good quality/expensive, jumpers, jeans and trousers that I would not wash every time they get worn. Nor do I want to wear the same outfit in the same week.
What do you do with items you don’t wash after every wear? Things that need hand washing, like delicate jumpers? I put mine back in the wardrobe. They don’t smell, or make the other clothes dirty!

Different with t-shirts in the summer etc, but then I wouldn’t wear smelly/dirty clothes twice, so they’d go in the wash!

MacBlank · 20/04/2020 18:11

I bet you're the one who puts sweet wrappers back in the bag.

Or us d matches back in the box.

Depending on your Dr age, I'd say a t-shirt could be worn 2 days, and of course jeans etc 3 days (under certain circumstances)

I don't understand YOU. why would you out already worn clothes back in with your ironed clean clothes.

I have a stool my worn clothes go on. So long as I've not sweated and worn for hours, I'll often wear a t-shirt days. Of course if I've worn it all day, and especially if I've gotten hot n sweaty in it, then it's once only.

Saz42 · 20/04/2020 18:21

Definitely dont put worn clothes away with clean ones. If they are not brought out again for a while, they could develop deodorant stains/discolour. I have a chair for worn clothes (which I have now realised is called a chairdrobe!!!).

restingbitchface30 · 20/04/2020 18:24

I hang worn clothes on the wardrobe door if they can b worn again. Wouldn’t put them back into the wardrobe

LaurieMarlow · 20/04/2020 18:27

Blimey. I had no idea that it was so appalling to put worn clothes in the wardrobe.

Same here.

Surely if they’re disgusting enough to ‘infect’ your other clothes they should be in the wash basket anyway? 🤷‍♀️

cushioncovers · 20/04/2020 18:29

Yabu op. I also have a chairdrobe and never put worn clothes back in with clean ones.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 20/04/2020 18:34

I'm with your DD - I wouldn't hang anything not clean - moths are also encouraged by this. But it may well be clean another wear - On the ottomman for me.

Jeeperscreepers69 · 20/04/2020 18:38

Chair. I wouldnt put worn clothes in wardrobe with clean either.

Choccylips · 20/04/2020 18:39

I would never put anything back in the wardrobe. Why can't she have a chair there are some nice ones going for a pittance. she can also sit on it or stand on it to look in the top of the wardrobe.
