Fed up of all this nhs heroes worshipping

Those working in care homes are amazing. ITU nurses, doctors, administrators, cleaners, porters are incredible. I’ve always thought this pandemic or not. All staff on CV wards I truly admire. And all nhs staff supporting these individuals are brilliant. But heroes? They’re jobs are always admirable pandemic or not. And all others working for the nhs I’m sure there is the odd ‘hero’ amongst them that stand out. But all this mass hero worshipping is now getting on my nerves. Like my neighbour who is currently not doing anything related to CV who films himself during the Thursday clap and personally thanks people on FB. I’m sure there are plenty of true Heroes currently working for the nhs, but to attach that label to all of them is starting to grate now.

Living up to your NN there OP.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 18/04/2020 11:02

The definition of heroic. "Admirably brave or determined."

Read a few accounts of what it's like working on the wards at the moment.

It's fucking gruelling and those who are enduring it are heroic for doing so.

Your neighbour is just a self indulgent twat.

But tar them all with the same brush why don't you?

Living up to your NN there OP.

Quite!

OneandTwenty · 18/04/2020 11:03

Feeling a bit jealous are we?

MarieQueenofScots · 18/04/2020 11:04

So your neighbour is a virtue signalling pillock and yet your issue is with a (technically correct) use of a term?

Don’t clap if you don’t want, I wouldn’t have thought it was rocket science.

lockdowngrinch · 18/04/2020 11:04

I’ve said there are many heroes amongst them.

THB after the years of physical and verbal abuse they've had to put up with i'm surprised more aren't telling people to shove their clapping up their arse. My boyfriend has been called a stupid paki on numerous occasions throughout the 6 months months i've known him by people he's trying to treat in A & E. Just not doing that would be a marvelous start.

iklboo · 18/04/2020 11:04

They’re jobs are always admirable pandemic or not.

Their lives have never been at such a great a risk before. They are literally risking their own lives every single shift.

Nquartz · 18/04/2020 11:05

You think these people aren't worthy of a bit of hero worship?

When did you lady put your life on the line for your job?

Nquartz · 18/04/2020 11:05

Last 🤦🏻‍♀️

Whatevah · 18/04/2020 11:06

It’s a bit embarrassing.
I have a routine involving my NHS lanyard as I kept leaving it behind and you can’t get in or around our hospital without it, as you need it to unlock doors.
Anyway, it’s never been an issue. I stick it around my neck as I leave work, and put it in my work bag when I get home. Put it on when doing my make up in am. So I always travel as such with it on.
I’m too embarrassed to do it at the minute as it feels so ‘in your face’ I work for the NHS.
A security guy at mini Tesco spotted it recently after I had queued, and said just come to the front of the line in future. I’d die of embarrassment and never would.
I agree it has all gone a bit hysterical.
But on the other hand the first clap for Carer’s made me cry.Blush
I’ve missed the last few as was on night duty.
I also feel guilty as the hospitals around here as so empty! I haven’t had such quiet shifts in ages. We had 150 empty beds this week.
The covid ICU where I worked has an amount of patients you could count on your fingers. We have 18 beds but never even half full.
I don’t think people realise.
The nursing homes are getting hammered.

clareOclareO · 18/04/2020 11:06

YANBU. They are admirable and deserve the respect they are getting.

So do all the other millions of key workers who keep the country running. Everyone who works their arse off and gets a third of their income taken in taxes to fund the NHS is equally important as the frontline staff themselves.

lockdowngrinch · 18/04/2020 11:06

Why is anyone with a controversial opinion assumed to be ‘jealous’?

Hopefulmidwife · 18/04/2020 11:06

Do you know OP il get flamed but I agree. I work for the NHS btw. I feel awful, really truly awful that the NHS are getting so much 'free stuff', discounts etc when actually we are the only ones - or very few - getting a full time wage. What about the people who've lost their jobs? Who have children to support?

YenniferOfVengeberg · 18/04/2020 11:06

Still treating patients despite inadequate ppe and multiple deaths of healthcare workers? Of course they are fucking heroes OP.

Hannah021 · 18/04/2020 11:07

I too am bored of threads like urs whining and crying over some ppl who they want their heros to be.

Grow up ffs. This lockdown is getting the shittiest out of ppl. Find urself better things to do than scrolling over FB huffing and puffing

bloodyhellsbellsx · 18/04/2020 11:08

So sorry that showing some admiration and gratitude towards key workers is starting to grate on you, let’s all stop immediately so not to irritate you any further eh 🙄

doodleygirl · 18/04/2020 11:08

What is your definition of a hero OP. Mine is someone who runs towards and not away .

What a nasty thread.

Babdoc · 18/04/2020 11:09

Hmm... I think all the staff (not just frontline NHS) who are risking their health, and possibly lives, to work at the moment - and that includes shop staff who are exposed to vast numbers of potentially infected customers with almost no protection- are being tremendously brave. And many of them are on minimum wage, not getting the “danger money” the job currently merits.
You can debate whether it meets the definition of heroic, but personally, I think risking your life for others should qualify.
I have more of an issue with people labelled “heroic”, or “stars” on social media, for very mundane activities, such as fundraising.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 18/04/2020 11:09

It is cringeworthy, these people are doing the career they choose. They do a tough job yes and it’s great they decided on that career but they are just people none the less. To be fair the nurse and paramedic I know cringe at it too.

Thing is people didn’t give a fuck, they let government snip away for years at the budget. Now we need they are hero’s and we love them all, why because we suddenly need them.

A massive campaign to clap every Thursday was started yet the public aren’t making petitions, making a load of noise about the lack of PPE. Still they clapped 🤷🏻‍♀️

AmelieTaylor · 18/04/2020 11:09

I think it's pretty bloody heroic just to go anywhere near a bloody hospital right now, so yep anyone working in one is very much a hero in my eyes. Those working in Covid wards or in care homes etc are Super Heros

...those not making sure there's plenty of high grade PPE are super wankers!!

CaptainWentworth · 18/04/2020 11:10

I feel a bit like this. DH is a GP and like all his NHS colleagues is always professional and caring, but previously has just got so fed up with the entitled and rude behaviour of some patients.

I wonder how long all these people clapping for the NHS will remember this period - will they always appreciate HCPs in future, or will they go back to abusing them and taking them for granted once all this is over?

MarieQueenofScots · 18/04/2020 11:10

I feel awful, really truly awful that the NHS are getting so much 'free stuff', discounts etc when actually we are the only ones - or very few - getting a full time wage

So don’t use the discounts, don’t take the free stuff.

formerbabe · 18/04/2020 11:11

I disagree with you op.

The only thing that I'm a bit Hmm about is how many companies are giving nhs workers discounts right now. To be honest, considering the state the economy will be left in, nhs workers are probably more secure in their jobs than anyone else right now.

SoupDragon · 18/04/2020 11:13

People whining about the gratitude shown to the NHS is certainly beginning to grate.
