To be annoyed that Sainsbury’s have sent an email suggesting baking bread!!

Like lots of people I spend lots of time trying and failing to get supermarket food delivery slots.

So Sainsbury’s, my regular pre covid slot, have just emailed with a bake bread email.

I actually regularly bake bread and have been trying for five weeks to get yeast so I can do so.

No supermarket or shop has any yeast.

This is of course lighthearted but aibu to be cross with Sainsbury’s marketing department

I have yeast....

Absolutely no flour though 😫

Dishwashersaurous · 18/04/2020 08:34

I’ve got bread flour!

Bake a soda bread. No yeast needed.

DuploTower · 18/04/2020 08:36

Sourdough

WeirdAndPissedOff · 18/04/2020 08:37

I've not tried looking for yeast, but round here the shelves are all back to normal (includes heaps of loo roll!) for everything except home baking which is empty.
Flour is like gold dust - I've been looking for some for my grandparents since the panic buying started with no luck.

SmileEachDay · 18/04/2020 08:37

We can bake a loaf between us then OP 😂

2Rebecca · 18/04/2020 08:37

Yeast but very little flour. I only have flour because I used to bake a lot of bread and pizzas so had different types of flour I'm now nearing the end of and have been buying bread when shopping to stretch out my supply. I'm happy for people to try making bread who don't usually as long as they use the stuff and dint just

TheMandalorian · 18/04/2020 08:37

Yep there's been no flour in two large city supermarkets near me for weeks now.

Hard to find flour even...

LolaSmiles · 18/04/2020 08:37

Because what we need when it's already hard to get flour is people who don't bake their bread normally buying the bread flour, finding it doesn't work as well so going out for a normal loaf, which doesn't solve any issues.
Have Sainsbury's not considered there's lots of people who already bake their own bread who can't get the ingredients?

2Rebecca · 18/04/2020 08:38

Pressed post by accident. Final sentence .... and don't just squirrel the flour and yeast away

Fcukthisshit · 18/04/2020 08:38

Same here - I love baking fresh bread. Can’t get yeast or flour anywhere though.

caramac04 · 18/04/2020 08:38

I’ve emailed them explaining as a life long baker I’m gutted I can’t get any flour and asking them for suggestions.
Stupid and thoughtless marketing.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/04/2020 08:38

Bakeries have yeast. Just email your local bakery. also as far as I know foreign shops have (like Eastern European/arabic/indian etc) Or make your sourdough starter.

Potterspotter · 18/04/2020 08:39

I did think the marketing dept was a bit off, but otoh the mum groups are full of tales of baking bread with children so presumably some people had it in stock.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/04/2020 08:40

It's not stupid and thoughtless marketing. It's to remind that people who bought 30kg of flour and 5kg of yeast to bake a bread so they don't waste food ingredients 🙈

44PumpLane · 18/04/2020 08:40

I think a lot of the flour shortage issue stems from lots of "how to make play doh with flour" and "how to make dough for handprints" helpful ideas you see on facebook so people are getting flour and ising it for crafts rather than baking

leafygarden · 18/04/2020 08:40

Yeah - whatever

Iwantacookie · 18/04/2020 08:42

Try bakeries. I know around my area they are selling yeast.
I'm struggling to get flour too.

WingBingo · 18/04/2020 08:44

Supermarket bakeries will often have Live yeast if you ask.

They charge a nominal fee for a small bag.

mrscampbellblackagain · 18/04/2020 08:48

I have had success in getting yeast from local bakeries - also bread flour.

Thighmageddon · 18/04/2020 08:51

I did snort when I read that email earlier.

I have no bloody yeast left and there's none to be found locally so we've been eating shitty ready sliced stuff.

cliffdiver · 18/04/2020 08:52

In my local Sainsburys there are tons of bread / baked products but no flour or yeast of any sort.

whensmynexthol1day · 18/04/2020 08:59

I found bread flour and yeast in my small Sainsbury's local and Tesco express the other day. The yeast was on an end shelf with other 'novelty' items 😂
So maybe try the smaller shops?

Els1e · 18/04/2020 08:59

My sister sent me a recipe for bread without yeast. Tastes great. 450g self raising flour, 450 ml of sparkling water or beer, 2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp of salt. You can add nuts or seeds if you want
