Is it normal to not flush the loo at night?

So DH won't flush the loo over night if it's just a wee, he says it's because he grew up in the south east and they regularly had droughts so don't flush, I think it's absolutely disgusting. Lately I've only been using the downstairs loo (as I'm too busy with DD to bother checking he's flushed the loo) so will often only go in to the upstairs bathroom in the early evening at bath time and find it unflushed and it stinks. Do other men/people do this?

We live on tank water so over summer when it doesn't rain we get extremely low and water conservation is an obsession. If we run out it's game over!

Not flushing wees saves us huge amounts. Such a waste of water! We collect grey water from showers in buckets and use that to flush.

A days worth of wee is normal in this house! It's flushed with the bucket after a poo! Doesn't stink.

RideaCockHorseOfCourse · 17/04/2020 22:58

Nothing wrong with leaving a bit of wee down the toilet. No, it's not disgusting, and if your wee makes your toilet stink, there's something wrong with your wee!

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 17/04/2020 22:59

Wee is literally a sterile liquid
It's not sterile though

Hopingitrains · 17/04/2020 22:59

Never flush at night as we live in small flat and it would wake the dc.

And no the wee does not smell in the morning.

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 17/04/2020 22:59

Is it weird that we don't get up in the night to wee? This isn't a question in our house; wee, brush teeth, bed, don't get up until morning?

Tellmetruth4 · 17/04/2020 23:00

We researched toilet cisterns based on them having two flushes, one for a pee and another for a poo. The wee flush barely uses any water. It also had to be a very quiet flush with a soft closing lid as I’m a light sleeper. The result is, if anyone gets up to wee, the flush and the lid will never wake anyone else up.

I’d hate to walk in to a bathroom on a hot summers morning to find a stale stagnant piss waiting for me. Seeing DHs wee every morning would probably start to put me off him. I don’t want to see his bodily waste. I’m used to cleaning up the kids bodily fluids but I don’t want to see an adults. Yuk.

TheWordmeister · 17/04/2020 23:00

We don’t generally get up in the night to go to the loo, but if we did, we wouldn’t bother flushing.

professorbean · 17/04/2020 23:01

Do the non flushers understand the environmental implications of all their flushing?

professorbean · 17/04/2020 23:01

I mean the flushers.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 17/04/2020 23:01

@DontStandSoCloseToMe I am so glad you are here! I thought I am the only one😂 I too don't pee at night. I always thought that if you are waking up to pee, it's due to medical isssues

puds11 · 17/04/2020 23:01

Probs flush after the third wee. But I wee in the shower to save water so I’m probably not the best bench mark Grin

Purpleartichoke · 17/04/2020 23:05

Always flush.

Chinks123 · 17/04/2020 23:05

Confused by all the people saying it stinks, it shouldn’t if you’re drinking enough? Mine is clear and so is dds and doesn’t smell of anything. We don’t flush at night because ds is a very light sleeper. someone’s suggestion up thread to make noise as a newborn to get them used to it- we did that, just as we did with dd but he’s still the lightest sleeper in the world and so am I. It gets flushed first thing and definitely doesn’t ‘stink’ or stain.

Dp flushes after every go because his urine does smell strongly, and is a very dark colour Envy because he is dehydrated..because he doesn’t drink enough. If we left that overnight it would stink. Drink water and it won’t Smile

RainbowMum11 · 17/04/2020 23:05

We are on a water meter so flush every other time in the day & not overnight (only me & 1DC though) unless it's a poo.

forsucksfake · 17/04/2020 23:09

My friend grew up on a no-flush-for-pee house and continued the grim practice when she moved into her own place. The smell would hit me as soon as I entered. I have since been in other similar homes and the small is unmistakable. Nose blindness may be a blessing for the residents but it is hard on your guests who, like me, are too polite to say anything. OneandTwenty · 17/04/2020 23:10

We flush.

I would much rather collect bath water to water the garden than not flush.

Bouledeneige · 17/04/2020 23:12

We never did when the kids were little and it kind of stuck. Just for wee.
But I do flush if someone else is staying at her house.

Chloemol · 17/04/2020 23:13

Flush every time, disgusting not to

Princesspickle777 · 17/04/2020 23:14

We don’t flush wee’s at night, it wakes up DD who’s bedroom shares a wall with the bathroom. It gets flushed first thing in the morning.

TheSoapyFrog · 17/04/2020 23:17

I'm in the south east and flush every time

Glorifiedg · 17/04/2020 23:22

Don’t flush wee overnight, used to work for a water company. Some judgey people on here!

PastaPins · 17/04/2020 23:24

We all flush every time. I can't believe so many don't HmmEnvy

Boireannachlaidir · 17/04/2020 23:24

When there's water shortages you'll all be thinking a little bit more before you waste water.

If your house or toilet stinks simply from not flushing your pee then you really need to take a good hard look at your personal hygiene/diet or house cleaning / clothes and bed linen changing regime first.

OneandTwenty · 17/04/2020 23:26

after the months of flooding we just had (and the ground is nowhere near dried up here!), we're good so far...

MrsKoala · 17/04/2020 23:26

I think it’s more weird how many of you wee at night. No one here does. Even when pregnant I never got up in the night. If I hear someone up in the night it’s because they are unwell.

Flushing in general is a bone of contention in this house. H and the boys don’t if it’s a wee. The toilet can be left for days before I go in and it is brown with numerous lags and stinks and stains the loo. One loo in particular is brown from all the piss left in it. Angry
