Is it normal to not flush the loo at night?

So DH won't flush the loo over night if it's just a wee, he says it's because he grew up in the south east and they regularly had droughts so don't flush, I think it's absolutely disgusting. Lately I've only been using the downstairs loo (as I'm too busy with DD to bother checking he's flushed the loo) so will often only go in to the upstairs bathroom in the early evening at bath time and find it unflushed and it stinks. Do other men/people do this?

That is disgusting, always flush Confused

Pukkatea · 18/04/2020 00:22

Flushing the toilet is 'white noise'? Maybe if you live in a big house...I live in a flat with 3 rooms and both mine and the neighbours toilet flushing in the night wakes me up, and I'm not an especially light sleeper.

The house I grew up in had such old and dilapidated plumbing that my parents couldn't afford to fix that a flush would make every pipe in the house groan like a foghorn for hours.

Some of you are a bit too pampered.

Passmethecrisps · 18/04/2020 00:29

I genuinely don’t get why it is disgusting. Maybe that says lots about me.

In an average night I will get up once, maybe twice and dh will maybe get up once. We are the last to bed and the first up. The lid is always down. Typically I am the first up so I flush as soon as I get into the bathroom. It’s normally just my wee anyway.

If we have visitors we flush and just get on with it

QuestionableMouse · 18/04/2020 00:33

Always for a poo but I'll generally leave it overnight if it's just pee. I live alone though and drink plenty so my wee isn't strong smelling.

Grandmi · 18/04/2020 00:35

Def never flush loo at night for a wee..too noisy! Hi

BritWifeinUSA · 18/04/2020 00:35

Droughts? In England? My husband was raised in Southern California. Now that’s where they have droughts.

Grandmi · 18/04/2020 00:36

Not sure where the Hi came from!!

Passmethecrisps · 18/04/2020 00:38

I presume you are replying to me britwifeinusa.

With a well which fills from spring water - even in Scotland - it will run dry with a few weeks of dry weather. I appreciate it isn’t the same as a season long one but the essence of saving water is the same surely.

june2007 · 18/04/2020 00:40

Every thing is relative. We can still have a drought, even if it doesn,t compare to Ethiopia or California.

SpiritEssence · 18/04/2020 00:44

Nope we dont flush at night as I think I have the loudest flush ever then goes on forever. Not good Grin

RingaRosie · 18/04/2020 00:44

I’m pregnant, so wee-ing all the time, so I only flush after a few goes!

KatherineJaneway · 18/04/2020 00:52

For a wee, yes perfectly normal in my experience not to flush overnight. We didn't flush as it could wake other people in the house.

Downunderduchess · 18/04/2020 00:56

I started not flushing during the night as we were in a serious drought (Australia) and they imposed water restrictions, so I try to limit water wastage as much as I can. I have continued this practice. It’s only me here so doesn’t impact anyone else.

Peppafrig · 18/04/2020 00:59

I don't flush when it's a pee during the night .

alliwantisabitofpeace · 18/04/2020 01:09

Nope dont flush for a wee at night as live in a flat so noise wakes people and s

ChilliMayo · 18/04/2020 01:29

When the dc were little and their bedroom was next to the only loo we didn't flush for a wee once they were asleep as it would usually have taken hours to actually get them asleep.
We do flush now though, twenty years on. We're on a water meter so perhaps we shouldn't.

Mintjulia · 18/04/2020 01:58

My ex has taught my ds not to flush at night because it wakes ex up.
Drives me crazy. It’s a disgusting dirty habit and DS now knows not to do this in my or anyone else’s house. It’s just vile

lemontreebird · 18/04/2020 01:58

Always flush.

I encountered a family who didn't flush overnight because it woke their kids. After visiting their stinky toilet, I decided that any kids I might have, would have to learn to sleep through flushing.

JustStayHome · 18/04/2020 02:48

We mostly don't flush at night but we have 3 toilets / bathrooms so depending on what toilets have been used, in the morning it isn't to bad at all....

LorenzoStDubois · 18/04/2020 03:52

I don't flush a wee, in order to save water, but I have my own private bathroom.

OhClover · 18/04/2020 03:59

What’s “disgusting” is the way some on this thread care so little about water wastage.

mathanxiety · 18/04/2020 04:03

I have a low volume flush toilet. Can all the people who care so deeply about the environment say the same or do they all boast the UK average 9 litre jobby?

MrsCatE · 18/04/2020 04:18

Went on holiday with other couple - big mistake. Shared flat, insisted toilet couldn't be flushed after 7pm because of kid. Both blokes drank beer non stop and stank place out so I would 'accidentally' flush and kid never woke up.

What I find disgusting is why don't people put lid lid down when they flush? Don't you realise you're literally spraying miniscule droplets around? Usually quite near towels, toothbrushes etc.!

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 18/04/2020 05:05

I don;t flush wees - but I do live alone, I do if there's visitors (not happening at the moment Sad)
Good to see I'm not weird!

Isolatedbunny · 18/04/2020 05:29
