To be sick of 'if you voted for the Tory government then you're a hypocrite for clapping'

ScarletFever · 16/04/2020 22:26

I've seen this a lot on social media, and I didn't vote tory (I voted anyone but tory) but I feel that people are clapping to show they are thankful for the nhs firstly, but also for the other front line workers, the carers and cleaners and bin men and everyone else who is doing their bit.

I'll probably get down voted to hell, but the sanctimonious 'oh you're such a hypocrite ' is just so wearing

Willow2017 · 17/04/2020 12:15

I didn't shame myself at all, I did my part every Thursday evening and I am proud to call myself a supporter of the NHS.
Oh yes because standing at your front door once a week clapping is going to solve all the problems in the NHS. Well done you. Give yourself a clap.
Hope you were reported on FB as the utter self important bully you are.

KathyBriggs360 · 17/04/2020 12:24

I think it's pretty obvious to anybody with a brain that if the country had voted Labour in instead of Tory, not only would we have seen a better response but deaths would have been significantly decreased.

When this is all over I hope all of you who voted for that despicable party have a wee bit of introspection and make the right decision at the next ballot box. That is all I will say now, I don't care to address the hateful vitriol aimed at me by dozens of Tory posters on this thread.

HoffiCoffi13 · 17/04/2020 12:25

Absolutely not a Tory voter, never have been and never will be. Still think your ‘calling out’ of a neighbour was fucking despicable, and says far more about you than it does about her.

Willow2017 · 17/04/2020 12:28

Sorry to disappoint but not a Tory voter.

GhostofFrankGrimes
U.K. Paid $20 Million for New Coronavirus Tests. They Didn’t Work.

I'm not able to read your New York Times link (subscription) - but on their twitter feed a poster has quoted Fox News;

"Britain joins growing chorus of countries furious with China's faulty coronavirus equipment."

"The Prime Minister's Office announced it would push to get a refund."

"If the tests don't work then the orders that we placed will be cancelled and wherever possible we will recover the costs," the PMO said."

"Britain is the latest place that has had issues with equipment and kits bought from Beijing."

"Last week, the Netherlands joined Spain,Turkey, Georgia and the Czech Republic in their concerns over masks and test kits. The claims of faulty test kits and other devices came as the number of COVID-19 cases continued to surge in the United States and Europe."

"Spain had to return 50,000 quick-testing kits to China after discovering they weren't working properly. The Netherlands also rejected China-made coronavirus testing kits and protective gear, calling them substandard and questioning the quality of supplies Beijing is selling at marked-up prices to the world."

My point was how would the UK have fared any better joining the EU bulk-buy procurement scheme?

Presumably the tests kits from China have been given EU approval?

Clavinova · 17/04/2020 12:29

test kits

x2boys · 17/04/2020 12:29

I worked for the NHS under Labour I can assure you it was no better managed under them ,I was redeployed twice in twelve months in between 2005-2006 due to cuts under the Labour, yes the NHS is in a big mess but it needs total destruct and not to waste the funds it does get .

KathyBriggs360 · 17/04/2020 12:30

@HoffiCoffi13 what because I actually care about the NHS? So it says more about me that I care and she does not? OMG What world are living in? Honestly I don't understand why you are all having a go at me.

HoffiCoffi13 · 17/04/2020 12:30

KathyBriggs360 how do you know who this poor woman voted for?! I thought ballots were private.

HoffiCoffi13 · 17/04/2020 12:33

I care about the NHS. I demonstrate this with practical and financial aid. Worth far more than a fucking clap. And if you think you’re a superior person because you spend 2 minutes a week clapping then you’re deluded.
We’re having a go at you because you think it’s reasonable to ‘call people out’ for not doing something that is entirely voluntary and actually in practical terms completely pointless.

HoffiCoffi13 · 17/04/2020 12:33

And you’re proud of the fact that you shamed her in public.

Icantstopeatinglol · 17/04/2020 12:33

Kathy because it’s not upto you to tell others what to do!? You’ve no clue why someone might not be clapping! They could be doing a lot of other things that you have no clue about that will make a bigger difference. You bullying someone into standing at their door slapping their hands together might make you feel better but doenst change anything.

Salmonpasta · 17/04/2020 12:35

@KathyBriggs360

You don't care about the NHS. You care about your self-centred viewpoint.

I work for the NHS and we don't want people like you being a dick thanks.

KathyBriggs360 · 17/04/2020 12:36

OMG you know what? You've won. I'm going to stop posting now. When I woke up this morning I have received two lovely private messages from people on this thread, one which kindly told me to jump off the nearest bridge and the other full of horrible misogynistic slurs about me. I am in actual tears because of the things you've said about me and all I wanted to do was show my support for our beautiful NHS with like minded people. Sadly I did not realise the calibre of people on here.

So I guess well done you guys, the internet shuts down another woman. Enjoy your circlejerk.

HoffiCoffi13 · 17/04/2020 12:37

I bet that poor woman was in tears for being publicly shamed too.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 17/04/2020 12:37

What concerns me about the public opinion of the NHS at the moment is how some press organisations like to build somebody, or something up, and then do a complete backturn and really bring them down

I can see this happening. At the moment, in some parts of the country, we have a few covid19 patients on a ward and the rest of the hospital is practically empty with staff just milling about.

Elective operations are postponed.
Some cancer treatments are postponed.
More seriously we have patients with potentially serious conditions, red flag symptoms and exacerbations of long term conditions not seeking help because they are either scared of getting covid19 or worried that they are not allowed to use the NHS unless they have the virus.

Will the govt be held to account for the decisions that it has made? For the message to the public that unless you have covid 19 and basically on your last legs that the NHS is not open for business? (and I have to include some nurses and doctors in also facilitating this view)

No, they will blame the NHS.

HoffiCoffi13 · 17/04/2020 12:38

I’m sorry people have sent you vile PM’s. But you have admitted to publicly shaming someone for not doing something that actually helps no one. You can’t take the moral high ground. You shamed her, in public.

derxa · 17/04/2020 12:39

You can’t judge someone’s character purely by who they vote for . Especially when all the choices are crap . Exactly I voted Tory because I couldn't envisage Jeremy C or Jo Swinson as PM but Boris was a crap choice as well. I went out and clapped for the NHS. Hell I used to work for them during Tony Blair's govt. They destroyed our service with 'targets' and other such business models.

Salmonpasta · 17/04/2020 12:41

Oh don't be even more of a dick Kathy.

The internet isn't shutting down anyone, let alone shutting someone down because they're a woman.

You were a dick and people told you were. That's it.

Peregrina · 17/04/2020 12:43

Several months on they voted to lift it and nurses were amongst the first to be awarded a pay rise of 6.5 % over 3 years .Funny how that bit never gets a mention.

Did they all clap and cheer then?

OneandTwenty · 17/04/2020 12:50

KathyBriggs360
So I guess well done you guys, the internet shuts down another woman

when you insulted and "shamed" that poor neighbour on a public Facebook group?

well done indeed.

1066vegan · 17/04/2020 12:51

@KathyBriggs360 I can't believe the self-indulgent self-pitying whining in your update when you announced that you're flouncing off this thread.

You admitted to publicly shaming someone who didn't join in with the weekly clapping. You didn't just admit it: you were proud if it. You were repeatedly called out for bullying, had the chance to reflect on your actions and the effect that they could have had on your poor victim but chose to defend the indefensible.

This is an anonymous forum. You have been criticised for your vile behaviour but none of us know who you are in real life. Our words won't have any effect on you in real life unless you choose to let them.

That's completely different from the treatment that you meted out by publicly naming and shaming someone.

Willow2017 · 17/04/2020 12:53

So I guess well done you guys, the internet shuts down another woman. Enjoy your circlejerk.

Nobody is shutting down anyone.
The pms were unecessary but you didn't mind publicly naming and shaming a woman for not doing what you alone thought she should be doing. If you feel bad now how do you think she felt?

derxa · 17/04/2020 12:53

The NHS is a bottomless pit financially and a sacred cow politically so it's impossible to have a rational discussion about whether there might be better ways to provide effective healthcare in the UK. I agree with this. Germany has this system:

HoffiCoffi13 · 17/04/2020 12:54

You can close down this thread and none of us know who you are in real life.
For the woman you ‘called out’, everyone in her community knows who she is and what you said to her.
