To be sick of 'if you voted for the Tory government then you're a hypocrite for clapping'

I've seen this a lot on social media, and I didn't vote tory (I voted anyone but tory) but I feel that people are clapping to show they are thankful for the nhs firstly, but also for the other front line workers, the carers and cleaners and bin men and everyone else who is doing their bit.

I'll probably get down voted to hell, but the sanctimonious 'oh you're such a hypocrite ' is just so wearing

Where in the most recent conservative manifesto does it state that their policy is to privatise the NHS? And even if it did, it's possible to believe that an organisation should be managed differently, and still applaud to show your gratitude to people who work in that organisation. I hate this over-simplification of political ideas. The Tories know that the NHS is considered sacred in this country and it would be political suicide to 'dismantle' it. And PFI was brought in by the Labour party under Blair.

It's not just the NHS the Tories don't care about, it's all those front line workers you listed.

I get where you're coming from re. the social media nonsense, but it is kind of true isn't it? If you voted for a government that consistently under funds and under supports these key workers and then clap to show how much you care about them now....it is a bit hypocritical.

My sister works for the NHS, I have clapped a few times and I always vote Conservative (well aside from around the time Brexit as I’m a Remainer).
We already pay away almost half of our combined salary in tax and NI so while I’d happily see NHS staff paid more through cost saving measures, I don’t want to pay any more tax to fund pay rises. And that for me is the bottom line. Continually raising income tax isn’t the answer and isn’t fair on those who pay a huge percentage already.

I live in Wales, Labour are in charge of our NHS and are doing a terrible job. I wouldn't tell anyone who voted Welsh Labour not to clap for the NHS because people vote for a political party based on more than one policy. What gets me is we are all clapping for them now but will we remember their sacrifices for us in a few years to come I wonder?

It's a lazy thing to say from people who naively believed in the promises or ravings from parties like Labour.

Pretty sure most people would chose World Peace, the end of cancer and covid19 and unlimited funding for everything so any medical intervention feels like a trip to Disney.
Sadly people have to vote for a realistic program, that handles things with the currently available resources.

Bollocks is that what happened. The vote was part of the queens speech which had been costed etc. Labour put in an amendment for all govt workers to receive a pay rise. So all council pen pushers, all teachers etc.
Those people voted against that amendment.
It is a ridiculous oversimplification as has probably been explained many times below the list you copied from fb but hey don’t let the truth and any semblance of knowledge get on the way of your tory hating rhetoric.

I made a post on Facebook last night about a woman who lives near me who hasn't come out of her house once to clap the NHS and somehow it got to the point where she ended up commenting and apologising for her behaviour. Public shaming absolutely works and it needs to be taken seriously more as a political weapon to submit most of the working class up North who betrayed their ideals and voted Conservative.
