To be sick of 'if you voted for the Tory government then you're a hypocrite for clapping'

I've seen this a lot on social media, and I didn't vote tory (I voted anyone but tory) but I feel that people are clapping to show they are thankful for the nhs firstly, but also for the other front line workers, the carers and cleaners and bin men and everyone else who is doing their bit.

I'll probably get down voted to hell, but the sanctimonious 'oh you're such a hypocrite ' is just so wearing

It's not just the NHS the Tories don't care about, it's all those front line workers you listed.

I get where you're coming from re. the social media nonsense, but it is kind of true isn't it? If you voted for a government that consistently under funds and under supports these key workers and then clap to show how much you care about them now....it is a bit hypocritical.

hamstersarse · 16/04/2020 22:31

YANBU - there are plenty of people who work for the NHS that voted Tory

lakeswimmer · 16/04/2020 22:33

It's possible to work for the NHS and vote Tory - my DM (now retired) is one. I'm sure there are others.

nopenothappening · 16/04/2020 22:33

It is hypocritical to put on a big public display of supposed gratitude when you've done nothing to actually support or protect the organisation(s) you claim to care so deeply about - and have no intention of doing anything in the future either.

LittleAndOften · 16/04/2020 22:34

Yabu. They do have a point. This gov continue to put ideology before the needs of the people. Look at the European emergency medical procurement shambles. There is a dearth of leadership at the top of government. It can't go unchecked. And they didn't put themselves there - voters did.

HillAreas · 16/04/2020 22:39

If you vote Tory you don’t care about the NHS or babies.

If you vote Labour you don’t care about crashing the economy or Jews.

If you vote Lib Dem you don’t care about democracy.

If you vote SNP you don’t care about anything but separatism.

And on and on and on it goes blah blah blah. Why can’t people respect other people’s best intentions? Most people want the best for the country and the only difference is how to achieve that and what exactly that means.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 16/04/2020 22:39

Yanbu - the NHS is a woefully managed bottomless pit with some amazing people working for it.
Do I think labour would chuck more money at the NHS, yes. Do I think it would be valid for money or would all go to the areas where it is most needed, no.
Also people don’t vote on only one issue.
It would be like people saying you mustn’t clap for veterans or the armed forces if you voted Labour as they (particularly Corby) wanted to cut benefits. It’s a completely nonsensical argument.
And nuffsaid what ridiculous generalisations.

Moonmelodies · 16/04/2020 22:40

I guess the Tories have provided more for the NHS in the past ten years than any other party has.

Whatafustercluck · 16/04/2020 22:40

It's true though. Tories clapped and cheered when health workers' pay was frozen.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 16/04/2020 22:40

Sorry I meant to say cut defence/military not benefits. Everyone knows that labour love to increase benefits and the amount of govt employees to have more people dependent on them.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 16/04/2020 22:41

moonmelodies did they? Or did they approve a voting down of an amendment against the queens speech?

SinkGirl · 16/04/2020 22:43

It is hypocritical to put on a big public display of supposed gratitude when you've done nothing to actually support or protect the organisation(s) you claim to care so deeply about - and have no intention of doing anything in the future either.*

Exactly this. It’s “thoughts and prayers” in public.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 16/04/2020 22:43

hillareas I agree with you but it’s mainly the left who are critical, hostile and wish death on those who don’t agree with them.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 16/04/2020 22:46

Sorry moon that was obviously directed at what
I’m a bit tired from sitting hating all key workers while I vote Tory. It’s particularly difficult since I am one.

EustaciaPieface · 16/04/2020 22:54

Many members of the Tories, including current cabinet members, have stated that they believe in the privatisation of health services. Therefore I do think that there is hypocrisy in the clapping etc if you have voted for them.

They've also starved many other priority areas of investment including the police, military etc.

FlyingPandas · 16/04/2020 22:55

YANBU. I know several frontline NHS workers who are Tory voters. It's not as cut and dried as Tories-are-evil-and-Labour-are-not.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 16/04/2020 22:58

It’s tiresome

I quite a few Tory voters at work Boris is popular - NHS ....

VashtaNerada · 16/04/2020 23:02

YABU. Clapping won’t help them. Voting for a party who values them will.
And of course some NHS people vote Tory. God knows why anyone would choose to vote for a party who values the privileged more than the rest of us, but some people do. Doesn’t mean they’re right.

Trimalata · 16/04/2020 23:03

Senior Tories have hardly hid their intentions, with several of them floating privatisation quite openly. A few turkeys voting for Christmas doesnt mean it's right.

Dontcoughnearme · 16/04/2020 23:04

People should be able to hold their own political opinions and not be emotionally blackmailed

Icanflyhigh · 16/04/2020 23:05

YANBU - I too am sick of reading it and hearing from pathetic leftist dickheads who don't know their arse from their elbow.

Samtsirch · 16/04/2020 23:06

@ScarletFever
If you feel sick
How do you think the rest of us feel about every one missing the point?

Samtsirch · 16/04/2020 23:08

@Icanflyhigh
🤣🤣🤣
No you can’t
The sun would melt your wings
😂😂😂

LolaSmiles · 16/04/2020 23:10

Anyone getting involved in public displays of gratitude for the NHS whilst voting for a party who seeks to dismantle it needs to give their head a wobble in my opinion.

I'm not saying everyone who voted Tort hates the NHS and I'm not a fan of the good/evil approach to politics, but I'm not convinced anyone can publicly play the part of NHS supporter to the point they wish to make a show of it whilst privately acting in a way that gives a mandate to those seeking to strip it back and privatise it.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/04/2020 23:10

Yes it’s utterly pathetic.
Constantly being told if you voted X you can’t support Y:

Tories/ NHS
Labour/ Jews
Lib Dem’s/ Women

Fact is no government in recent history has done enough to support the NHS.
