To ask if you've treated yourself to something as a pick me up right now, and what it is

So We're all stuck in as we know. I have a newborn and a 2.5yo, and DH wfh so most of my day is chaos with one millisecond of the day to myself. Oh and its my birthday this week (woooo).
I've not spent any money of late as DH does our food shop (I cover all bills and budgeted some spending money for mat leave). I am still in mat clothes thanks to not being able to get new ones I can fit in but I am comfy and reluctant to have to return items. I am generally not someone that spends money on myself, it mostly goes on the kids.

But like most, I am low and anxious, and want to 'treat' myself but no idea where to start in the current climate.

So has anyone treated themselves and if so what, why and did it work??

A travel kettle for my bedroom.

Bringringbring12 · 15/04/2020 08:49

Some new trainers
Some summer clothes for me (I pick up this morning, excited!)
Sandals for the children
A new fancy microwave (also collect today!)
Loads of books for the children

And I’m desperately hunting a new weight kettlebell!

WearyandBleary · 15/04/2020 08:49

Plug plants and seeds for me. It means I can be outside and encouraging things to live, which really helps my mental health. :)

Bringringbring12 · 15/04/2020 08:49

Oh and Lora of online yoga and fitness classes. Total convert

YewandOak · 15/04/2020 08:50

A "new" phone off of eBay (my galaxy S5 was so slow it took a week to load up apps/send texts) the S7 is brilliant, love the bigger screen and the rose pink colour is soo pretty.

Also a new Hoover hoover - the stick one was useless!

Mascotte · 15/04/2020 08:55

@Hadjab I love that ring

Samtsirch · 15/04/2020 08:56

Industrial quantities of compost so that I can get on with the garden.
I grow everything from seed and had all I needed bar compost.
It’s the only thing keeping me sane at the moment and gives me a sense of hope.

Buggeritimgettingup · 15/04/2020 08:58

Yarn, beautiful luscious yarn, so far in lockdown I’ve made four shawls, a cardi and some cushion covers. Very therapeutic. Oh and gin obvs.

But surely non-essential purchases are putting people's lives at risk in picking, packing and delivering them though?

Or keeping them in a job?

Why not treat yourself to using something you already have, maybe a lovely bubble bath or massage, candle lit dinner, making something from old craft materials or sewing, reading a book you've not yet got round to, baking......

All very worthy. But this is the most extraordinary time, with freedom curtailed in a way that most of us will never have experienced before. If we can't break the monotony with something shiny and new, be it a pair of earrings or a new swingset for the children, then we might as well give up altogether.

I'm looking forward to a John Lewis delivery Thursday. Expensive wireless headphones I would never normally have treat myself to. I'm still going out to work every day and its been hard so thought it was time to treat myself. I can't wait, I'm going a little bit deaf so these will be useful. My next treat will either be shark vacuum or Dyson airwrap..I've also bought loungewear & veja trainers. i sent an Amazon package to grandaughter (4) with art stuff in as I would have spent this week with her doing things .

tinylittlehat · 15/04/2020 09:10

Sezane blouse so I'm wearing something other than a t shirt or hoodie, nice hair mask and lots of lovely soaps. And a proving basket, so my bread looks fancy!

TheLadyAnneNeville · 15/04/2020 09:14

No. Not yet. But when this is all over, I’m happy to say, the Italian Hotel I’d booked a holiday with on a no refund basis, has agreed to let us rebook, in future. First holiday booked in many years so... I’ll go with that!

NeedToKnow101 · 15/04/2020 09:14

I'm trying to support small businesses, with my saved commuting money, so I've treated myself to some gorgeous jewellery from louisewade.com . I've also set up a direct debit to Shelter and donated to Women's Aid

oohyoudevilyou · 15/04/2020 09:14

A new laptop/tablet combo for me (so I can pass down old one to 15 yo DS), new phone for DD and DH is currently trying to get best deal on either Bose or Sonos speakers. Sounds extravagant but we've had holiday to Florida cancelled and no chance of rebooking this year or next due to DH's shifts.

alphasox · 15/04/2020 09:35

A food mixer and a new telly.

LionKingOrTigerKing · 15/04/2020 09:40

Gucci bamboo perfume, it smells gorgeous

LionKingOrTigerKing · 15/04/2020 09:44

Also treated myself to a new book

Hoggleludo · 15/04/2020 10:00

@allfurcoatnoknickers

Oh. I keep wanting a one of those le crustet sets!!! Let me know if it's worth the money please xx

BigusBumus · 15/04/2020 10:02

The Camden Pant trousers from Saint and Sofia. So comfy!

Hoggleludo · 15/04/2020 10:02

I've brought myself some dewy facestuff. Elizabeth Arden. Kiehls. Glossier.

I'm not well (long term) and I literally look like I'm dying. Or dead. Very grey. I actually looked in the mirror and shrieked. Because I looked dead. Lols

So I thought I'd buy some stuff to help pep me up

I was thinking of buying the by terry lighting serum. But my god. Their customer service is just horrific. And for £61 I'd want to k ow I got the right one.

Tabitha005 · 15/04/2020 10:02

I ordered some fresh fish and seafood delivered up to Kent from Cornwall for DH's 50th birthday dinner last week. Also had a wine delivery from a chap who lives locally who usually supplies the restaurant trade - off-sales prices for some really great wines.

On the flip side, I'm sorting out and selling stuff on eBay like no-one's business. I've made several hundred pounds in the past couple of weeks. We'll (hopefully!) be moving house straight after lockdown eases, so it's all stuff I won't have to pack and take with us.

It's tempting to spend the cash I've made on a treat for myself, but I just keep thinking about the knackered old central heating boiler & aged, dodgy wiring waiting for us at the new place!

Hoggleludo · 15/04/2020 10:04

@CheddarCheesy oh. I love those boots!!!!!! I've wanted a pair since they started out

However. I'm a shorty. And the boots are too long for my calves! Sadly. Sniff sniff.

Post a pic when you get them. What ones did you get?!?

KitKatKit · 15/04/2020 10:05

I've bought some makeup (foundation and powder, I'm darker skinned so can't wear mainstream brands) in case production ceases! Also got some new pyjamas. Treat yourself!

Bridecilla · 15/04/2020 10:08

A bike! I've not been on a proper bike for 20 odd years but I've recently discovered spinning classes and, even though I'm fat and unfit I was quite enjoying them! Hoping the bike will motivate me a bit.

Cheese - counteracts the bike really it the company making our cheese cake for our postponed wedding have been fabulous about changing our date and I wanted to support them. 2kg of cheese on it's way!
