To ask if you've treated yourself to something as a pick me up right now, and what it is

So We're all stuck in as we know. I have a newborn and a 2.5yo, and DH wfh so most of my day is chaos with one millisecond of the day to myself. Oh and its my birthday this week (woooo).
I've not spent any money of late as DH does our food shop (I cover all bills and budgeted some spending money for mat leave). I am still in mat clothes thanks to not being able to get new ones I can fit in but I am comfy and reluctant to have to return items. I am generally not someone that spends money on myself, it mostly goes on the kids.

But like most, I am low and anxious, and want to 'treat' myself but no idea where to start in the current climate.

So has anyone treated themselves and if so what, why and did it work??

@Shockers it is a ProCook Professional Anodised. I never spend that kind of money on stuff but you can feel the quality! It’s a pleasure to use.

Subeccoo · 15/04/2020 08:17

Ooh beautiful new trail shoes for running, and a couple of new pairs of trainers for the boys too.

ImeldaJ · 15/04/2020 08:17

Pastel Obsessions eyeshadow palette (Rose) from Huda Beauty

Some CeraVe skincare products

A bright fuschia lipstick from the Karl Lagerfeld and L'Orèal collab

Two spring/summer maxi dresses

Some new silicone-free hair products, including a scalp scrub

BarbarAnna · 15/04/2020 08:19

@BikeRunSki it’s a ProCook Professional Anodised. I love it!

Britishsubject · 15/04/2020 08:25

Arriving today all in one box (felt a bit guilty ordering something nonessential). New bedding, some coasters, mascara, facial toner, a picture frame, a mirror and some facecloths. A bit of a treat as I had been due to get a few things before the pandemic kicked off. I am so excited for this parcel to arrive now Grin

BikeRunSki · 15/04/2020 08:26

Thank you @

I love this thread. It’s very rare I’ll read all of the responses I generally just skim but I’ve really enjoyed hearing all about the treats people have bought.
I’ve bought some new fairfax and favor boots because they had 20% off, some gorgeous joules wellies because mine had holes in, some joules leopard print trainers, a couple of books and quite random but one of those caps where your ponytail can come out of the top.
It’s nice to have a little break from the depressing news and monotony. I’m well and truly in the fuck it camp Grin

HasaDigaEebowai · 15/04/2020 08:27

But surely non-essential purchases are putting people's lives at risk in picking, packing and delivering them though?

Well at this rate the damage caused by the predicted depression is likely to be worse than the damage caused by the virus and so its a balance isn't it. The one thing that would help us however is if when spending people could try to buy things made in this country to help our economy to survive. It isn' always possible though I appreciate.

I've been eyeing up a garden rug. Completely non essential but since we are spending so much time in the house/garden its nice to have nice surroundings..

Not yet but I'm going to get some Clarins perfume and some bath oils.
I've ordered a couple of new tee shirts and loads of books. Need new clothes but can't find anything I like online at the moment.

Runkatierun · 15/04/2020 08:32

Lovely reading this thread and seeing what treats everyone is getting. I'm going to treat myself to some skin care stuff today. It's also my 30th next month and I think dh will use lockdown as an excuse to be hopeless so I envisage a few more treats to myself

Useryokyesno · 15/04/2020 08:33

I needed some stuff from boots so also got nice bubble baths and shower gels.

Not a treat but new tea towels as we're using loads more. And we have a lot anyway. It's kind of a treat not to be faffing on washing them every few days on a hot wash.

musicaljojo · 15/04/2020 08:34

I treated myself to a new hoodie to wear around the house and just looking for a new pair of trainers.

BikeRunSki · 15/04/2020 08:36

Thank you @BarbarAnna

BobbinThreadbare123 · 15/04/2020 08:37

Elemis Skin Buff - pricey but you use it once a week and it is revelatory! My face is as soft as a peach!

I bought a new bass.

Zaphodsotherhead · 15/04/2020 08:39

A tall dustpan and brush set.

I know it's hardly 'spoiling' territory, but I've been hoovering the hard floors and it takes AGES whereas with the new brush I can sweep up spills and crumbs and not have to get the hoover out (or, more usually, point the dog to the spill and hope she's hungry).

Fluffybutter · 15/04/2020 08:42

We bought quite expensive bikes . Dh always wanted this particular model so we all got one the day before lockdown was announced .
I’ve used mine once but atleast the rest of them have used theirs more Blush

TattiePants · 15/04/2020 08:42

We’d just had our bedroom decorated and for the first time ever it feels a really grown up space and coordinated. I’ve bought new bedding, lights and a mirror so far but still need lots of ‘bits’ to finish it off. It’s a great space to escape from the family!

Shockers · 15/04/2020 08:43

@BarbarAnna - thanks- I’ll have a look!

Fluffybutter · 15/04/2020 08:44

Oh and every Saturday we place an order at our local tap room for a mini keg of whatever ale we fancy and a few bottles/cans .
My favourite ale at the moment is Rhubarbra Streisand with extra custard . Lock down isn’t so bad ..

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 15/04/2020 08:45

But surely non-essential purchases are putting people's lives at risk in picking, packing and delivering them though

Firstly those at risk would have to self isolate and have the legal right to do that for 12 weeks anyway.

Secondly, every single person ive asked who works in this industry is HAPPY they have a job and can keep working and want to keep working. Its easy to say just stop buying stuff- then companies go bankrupt and noone can afford food and rent. Its up to every individual to decide the level of risk for themselves and up to companies to do what they can to protect staff.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/04/2020 08:46

Do you want 'things'? Has any of all the lovely things suggested on this thread jumped out at you and you've thought 'yes! my life will be perfect if I have one of those'?

Or will it be the same but you will have a lovely dressing gown, bracelet, whatever?

You say that you don't have any time to yourself. Would that make you feel better? Does your DH ever take sole charge of DC and house? The weather is nice at the moment. Do you have a garden you can sit in? My suggestion would be for your DH to take the DC for half a day - he can't be working 24/7 can he, and you just sit in the garden if you have one reading and eating/drinking something nice or just do what you like for a couple of hours. Maybe have a nap or a relaxing bath too.

If you don't have suitable books, snacks, bath oil, he can get something from the supermarket. Maybe a nice treaty M&S meal deal for dinner together after the DC have gone to bed?

LaneBoy · 15/04/2020 08:46

A dvd of a film I’ve wanted to see for ages (the experimenter) and some new piano sheet music.

Waiting hopefully for hotel chocolat discounts to increase!
