To ask if you've treated yourself to something as a pick me up right now, and what it is

So We're all stuck in as we know. I have a newborn and a 2.5yo, and DH wfh so most of my day is chaos with one millisecond of the day to myself. Oh and its my birthday this week (woooo).
I've not spent any money of late as DH does our food shop (I cover all bills and budgeted some spending money for mat leave). I am still in mat clothes thanks to not being able to get new ones I can fit in but I am comfy and reluctant to have to return items. I am generally not someone that spends money on myself, it mostly goes on the kids.

But like most, I am low and anxious, and want to 'treat' myself but no idea where to start in the current climate.

So has anyone treated themselves and if so what, why and did it work??

60p votive candles from Morrison’s - they burn very cleanly, last ages, and the vanilla and the linen scented ones are lovely.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 15/04/2020 05:54

An outdoor hot tub/spa pool - been thinking about one for ages. It's fabulous.

dentydown · 15/04/2020 07:10

Hippy trousers. I managed to get a massive pair! I used to have a pair when I was young and thin! So comfortable

kittyhello · 15/04/2020 07:21

Aesop hand wash, finally back in stock, and cleanser and also some bone china mugs.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 15/04/2020 07:31

Watching the pennies, but there is a “pick your own” flower field near us and I’ve got some gorgeous tulips. Also, been taking walks to a farm where you can fill your own milk bottle and buy fresh produce from their automated machine. Nice to get stuff directly from the farmers.

I’m probably going to make a miniature splurge on a lovely voile curtain on EBay. It will also mean our neighbour’s kids won’t be able to see in when they are playing on their trampoline. Grin

A new ring. Anytime I feel down in the dumps I buy new jewellery. This ones from a company called Bloody Mary Metal and it’s shaped like a horseshoe. I can’t wait for it to turn up!

Just some of this Grin

actually I did get some comfy trousers.

MegCleary · 15/04/2020 07:53

@ jewelledpineapples1 where was the pick me up box from? I’d like to get something for my mum and sis

loopylindazdaughter · 15/04/2020 07:55

Mad panic last night when I heard about warehouse, there cuts and designs always suit me, spent £200 on some nice tops, even if I'm only wearing them in the garden!

1wokeuplikethis · 15/04/2020 07:58

I’ve bought some loungewear as I’m working from home and don’t fancy wearing my jeans or pyjamas (jeans are pretty tight after too much panic-indulgence but that’s another story).

I had a body shop hamper a couple of weeks ago. Bought a big swing set for the kids - not for me but sort of is as it gives them new fun to have in the garden. And some garden games.

Considering getting a lay z spa tub thing. Quite expensive, but if the garden is our summer destination then it’s cheaper than a week abroad!

PositiveVibez · 15/04/2020 08:00

A pair of Birkenstocks.

Can't wait for them to arrive.

My old pair fell to pieces the other year. They were bought for me as a gift from MIL years ago and I could never justify spending that much on a pair of flip flops.

But I just thought oh fuck it.

Weebitawks · 15/04/2020 08:02

It sounds stupid and I'm not into video games etc. But my DS has a switch and I got us animal crossing for both of us to play. We don't have to play it at the same time, I can have a sit down in the evening and we like seeing what eachother has done when we alternate. It's a very relaxing game and DS likes that I'm enjoying gaming with him.

It's my mum's birthday on Friday. She lives up the road. Usually we would have all gone for a nice meal together in this lovely local restaurant. They're doing a take away service so while we can't eat together, we're all going to have a nice meal.

AnPo · 15/04/2020 08:03

Ordered a Phillips lumea, olaplex conditioner, footner socks, expensive new makeup and toying with ordering some revitalash - I've NEVER spent even close to this much on grooming products/cosmetics but I am planning to emerge from my cocoon a smooth, primed butterfly Grin even if I don't use them, waiting for the postwoman to arrive is the highlight of my day and is keeping me going!

Also wine 🍷 (Two toddlers here!)

imip · 15/04/2020 08:05

Non-financial things really. I don’t feel ‘bored’, I’m still cooking almost every night, 4dc and two with ASD means we still have manually challenges to face at home. But I’ve made a huge effort to carve out time for things I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve made a number of batches of hot cross buns and lentil soup. I’ve also started growing lots of plants from seeds, they are just starting to shoot.

hoopdeloop · 15/04/2020 08:07

I’ve ordered a vegan beauty subscription box and also a craft subscription box

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 15/04/2020 08:09

I bought a beautiful rainbow bracelet, seemed appropriate for this time (rainbow = hope).

Also a summer dress from white stuff, retailers scrapping themselves atm so some good discounts out there.

canyouseethesea · 15/04/2020 08:11

2 really soft Victoria Secret/PINK hoodies and their loungewear bottoms. So comfy to work from home in. My house is quite cool until the end of June/July so I've been a little cold and don't want to wear my dressing gown as it makes me feel lazy in the day. Also a couple of new Bath & Body Works candles.

OneKeyAtATime · 15/04/2020 08:11

A bike and child bike seat. Fresh air really helps my mental health

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 15/04/2020 08:11

*crapping. Although some retailers may also be scrapping.

BikeRunSki · 15/04/2020 08:12

@BarbarAnna - what frying pan did you get? I have a knack of buying really rubbish frying pans, whether £5 or £50!

SomewhereNow · 15/04/2020 08:12

This is such a nice thread, I think I need to treat myself to something 🤔

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 15/04/2020 08:12

Got my eye on some trainers on John Lewis, out of stock currently but waiting for new ones to come in...

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 15/04/2020 08:12

Also bought an expensive non wired bra, sooo comfy. Dont feel like wearing wired bras around the house.

canyouseethesea · 15/04/2020 08:14

I also got a new shark pet lift away hoover and it's the best hoover I've ever had. My carpets, the corners and sofa have never been so clean and pet hair free and I was a Dyson fan until it broke and I bit the bullet and changed brand! Also some nice bath oil and face moisturiser. A tub of hair conditioning stuff, can't remember the brand but it's banana smell and it's thick, my hair is quite dry from all the dying and I usually have an olaplex treatment at my hairdressers every 8 weeks. This was quite cheap and my hair is so so soft and smells lovely.

Subeccoo · 15/04/2020 08:15

Expensive face cream that I normally can't afford.
Garden loungers, I spent the whole bank holiday weekend reading in mine.
Beer, we never have beer at home as would normally go out at weekends.
New PJs for me and my sons.
