To ask if you've treated yourself to something as a pick me up right now, and what it is

So We're all stuck in as we know. I have a newborn and a 2.5yo, and DH wfh so most of my day is chaos with one millisecond of the day to myself. Oh and its my birthday this week (woooo).
I've not spent any money of late as DH does our food shop (I cover all bills and budgeted some spending money for mat leave). I am still in mat clothes thanks to not being able to get new ones I can fit in but I am comfy and reluctant to have to return items. I am generally not someone that spends money on myself, it mostly goes on the kids.

But like most, I am low and anxious, and want to 'treat' myself but no idea where to start in the current climate.

So has anyone treated themselves and if so what, why and did it work??

Nothing apart from drinking more than usual! Though Indo want to buy new bedding soon.

LovingLola · 15/04/2020 19:39

Beauty Expert had a 3 for 2 offer on Eve Lom plus an extra 10% off. I got 3 cleansers -200 ml each - so that’s about 6 months supply.

dementedma · 15/04/2020 19:40

A furry heated throw. it is the best thing ever
And a new oven, but that was necessity and only able to do it thanks to a PPI cheque arriving unexpectedly.

Toying with the idea of a piece of Sheila Fleet jewellery but that is pure luxury for me and perhaps not merited yet

NeverTwerkNaked · 15/04/2020 19:41

@BikeRunSki that must be horrible for him. And for you too.
It's why I am conscious to spend with small/medium size businesses where possible.

JessicaAndHarry · 15/04/2020 19:42

How old is your little girl? Harry is only 4 months but I discovered his albinism around 8 weeks so I’ve had some time to research and process it by this point!

middleager · 15/04/2020 19:43

Some Estee Lauder skin care with free gift.
The stress of working and homeschooling is now taking its toll on my skin!

JessicaAndHarry · 15/04/2020 19:44

@choccybuttonshelpeverything forgot to tag you on my reply! Blush

Scout2016 · 15/04/2020 19:45

Some daft Brian Froud books and Dark Crystal dvd (never seen it but love Labyrinth and could do with some escapism) all ebay.
Some new summer dresses for daughter in next size up from a WAH mum who makes beautiful things and who has lost lot of sales due to current situation. She's an ex nurse and been making scrubs too so good egg. Dresses are massive on my daughter but she loves them and it's a good way to shop.

Some fancy drawing pens and beginners watercolour stuff that hasn't come yet. Want it to hurry up as found load of bad reviews of company after I'd ordered so nervous now! Been doing online tutorials by a tattoo artist and got carried away!

WhatBecameoftheMonkey · 15/04/2020 19:47

Just ordered a hula hoop today, can't wait until it comes. That will be my new exercise regime :)

QueSera · 15/04/2020 19:49

Wine.

hiredandsqueak · 15/04/2020 19:49

A subscription to Freddie's Flowers. I, very nearly, bought a KitchenAid mixer and a robot hoover for upstairs but a courier knocked and by the time I'd got back to the laptop restraint had kicked in.

Scout2016 · 15/04/2020 19:51

@stayingaliveisawayoflife I love those boots. They aren't Dr Martens are they? Look a bit narrow.

BikeRunSki · 15/04/2020 19:53

@NeverTwerkNaked, if you need any Civil engineering consultancy give me a shout! 😊
But seriously, I am very conscious of what we’re spending at the moment. I’m still working, and the DC are just about old enough to be semi independent so I can largely get on with it, but it’s a worrying time. DH employs his best friend as well, that has caused him no end of grief recentjy.

RobotsandMermaids · 15/04/2020 19:54

Lego Disney Castle!

CaptainMerica · 15/04/2020 19:59

@cherish123
what's les Mills? Just curious

It's the brand of exercise class that you get in gyms - Body combat, body balance, body pump, etc. The on demand service is good as there are lots of classes from 10min to an hour. They do kids ones for various age ranges too. Just need to get off my arse and use it!

NeverTwerkNaked · 15/04/2020 20:06

@BikeRunSki funny you should say that but I work on big development projects Grin

BikeRunSki · 15/04/2020 20:15

Haha! You never know then @NeverTwerkNaked!!!

VeryLittleOwl · 15/04/2020 20:19

A horse. No travelling involved, he's been living here with me on loan since last summer, but out of the blue his owner asked if I'd like to buy him, having previously said she didn't want to sell him. Over the moon!

To ask if you've treated yourself to something as a pick me up right now, and what it is
Notenoughchocolateomg · 15/04/2020 20:20

Kettle chips Grin and a karcher jet wash to sort tyevbqck garden out.

Notenoughchocolateomg · 15/04/2020 20:20

*the back garden out. Hmm

NeverTwerkNaked · 15/04/2020 20:25

@BikeRunSki and if it gives him some cause for optimism I am public sector and we can't sign new contracts till lockdown is over but then I am told we will be steaming ahead

NeverTwerkNaked · 15/04/2020 20:26

@VeryLittleOwl oh that's so lovely Smile

Scout2016 · 15/04/2020 20:26

@VeryLittleOwl wow. Looks like a lovely horse and an ace place to live.
(I now have My Lovey Horse off Father Ted in my head.)

Newdadtogirl · 15/04/2020 20:30

I'm assuming this is a lighthearted thread...
Staying in the house, with a mobile phone...isn't good for me...
I'm told that I have difficulty obtaining perspective about clothing. Shoes, trainers, belts and beautiful, useful and artistically important bags, oh and of course scarves, all, are not easily resisted, I admit that.
Now I have time to research...(convince myself, as if I need convincing!)
In last 7 days its been 2 (!!!!) Hermes Cashmere and silk mufflers. I told myself they were medical, thus essential. Thing is... Trump said to wear a scarf to prevent catching the virus, didn't he? His chief Medical Officer wears a scarf so she is subliminally suggesting he's right. (Right?) So medically important.
Then, this happened...
I was offered a Louis Vuitton belt. Rare to find one available, boutiques sold out ages ago, so to get one is so cool right? But its not just any belt... Taurillon leather in matt black (the one with embossed design) accentuated by matt black metal buckle and hardwear. It was part of last year's Virgil Abloh collection, impossible to find, rare. A signature piece, a catwalk piece. The design is different, exciting, courageous and, thus, important. Why? Its because there's a huge matt black thick metal chain, hanging from it!! (I thought the orange chain version would be too bright, obviously). So so happy, its amazing!
I think they were great buys, reasonable, good quality etc. (all were very very very discounted, so no one will actually starve! lol)
Now the bad bit... I'm not rich or famous, and really have very little cash (less now!!). I'm also 43 so perhaps I should know better!
Feels good to get that all out! Phew.

Eating like a king is my treat.

We live by the sea, surrounded by farms. Usually the seafood and local vegetables are shipped abroad, but because of lockdown fishermen and farmers are selling locally. I hope it continues once this is over. We’ve had lobster and langoustines so far this week. Smile
