To ask if you've treated yourself to something as a pick me up right now, and what it is

So We're all stuck in as we know. I have a newborn and a 2.5yo, and DH wfh so most of my day is chaos with one millisecond of the day to myself. Oh and its my birthday this week (woooo).
I've not spent any money of late as DH does our food shop (I cover all bills and budgeted some spending money for mat leave). I am still in mat clothes thanks to not being able to get new ones I can fit in but I am comfy and reluctant to have to return items. I am generally not someone that spends money on myself, it mostly goes on the kids.

But like most, I am low and anxious, and want to 'treat' myself but no idea where to start in the current climate.

So has anyone treated themselves and if so what, why and did it work??

Make up, a full new kit of various lovely items. I don’t really wear much, haven’t done since I was in my 20’s.

But have suddenly returned to it, despite being in the shielding group and only seeing my family Grin

Actually, when one of my DC was in SBCU and I was still quite ill, I did the same thing. Ordered some luxury products whilst still in hospital, and was applying a full face before going up to neonatal each morning. I must find some comfort in it, as it clearly isn’t to impress other people! I do prefer myself when I look in the mirror though Smile

I'm making us a store cupboard 'roast dinner'. There will be wine in the gravy, oh yes.

CherryBakebadly · 15/04/2020 16:32

I’ve got a Spotify premium membership. Making playlists is the one thing that stops me cycling through endless news stories.

crazyspaniellady · 15/04/2020 16:46

A few tops from Joules when they had their 40% discount - I’ve spread them out by wearing one a week so I can keep the “ooooh new stuff” feeling.

A customised keep cup to use on dog walks/when I go back to work, as I don’t need it kept hot for days!

A candle, diffuser and wax melts from Made By Yasmin

A nespresso because I’m a huge coffee person, I was desperately missing the one at work and could no longer cope with instant coffee or the faff of a cafetière! I count this as a wise investment as I will no longer feel the need to go to starbucks/costa for a “real” coffee!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 15/04/2020 16:52

@ClientQ They're from Chaser. Not sure you can get the brand in the UK? I got them on super sale at Saks.

@Hoggleludo I am SO excited about my Le Creuset. Can't wait to use it.

Crazybunnylady123 · 15/04/2020 16:52

I got myself love boo mummy body butter/shower gel/bubble bath/stretch mark oil. I have just started my third trimester and feeling so uncomfortable and itchy tummy.
I might also treat myself to some new crafty bits after I have finished the birth sampler I’m working on.

winterisstillcoming · 15/04/2020 16:58

Erm too much!

3 tops and a jumper from Ted Baker.
Lounge bottoms from Oysho
A space NK beauty box
Expensive face peels
A belt from jigsaw

I'm on a no spend for a month and then it's my birthday.

I will pool all birthday money and make it up to buy a dyson airwrap set, and a robe/pyjama bottoms from one hundred stars.

LittleAtlas · 15/04/2020 17:01

Started the Disney+ subscription and bought more chocolate and biscuits than I usually do. And plenty of wine

Bream · 15/04/2020 17:01

I bought a lovely white cotton nightie and a pure silk pillowcase

LittleAtlas · 15/04/2020 17:02

Oh also a new book for when son's napping

APurpleSquirrel · 15/04/2020 17:05

I've ordered some books on soap making & natural skincare to have a go at making some bits for myself & Christmas, that I can do with DD too. Did a soap making course last year & am enjoying the fruits of that atm - no soap has needed to be bought for months!

superram · 15/04/2020 17:14

Nothing but this thread has encouraged me to order two pairs of Adidas superstars from office. I’ve wanted them for a while but they were reduced so I bought 2.

Sleepingbunnies11 · 15/04/2020 17:14

@JenNtonic is there a 1-2 click way to buy all of it?

DeanImpala67 · 15/04/2020 17:24

I've just ordered a build-a-bear The Child (baby Yoda) as his cute giggling and gurgling makes me smile. And my children can then earn time looking after him with good behaviour. Double the joy.

WildOrchids67 · 15/04/2020 17:29

I've ordered two playsuits from ASOS, and a Steven Brown elephant print. Got the frame sitting waiting for the print to arrive so I can get it on the wall! Thinking I might get some new glasses, just cheap ones from Select Specs as I'm due an eye test later this year and don't want to spend loads in case I need a new prescription. I'm thinking about ordering more clothes as I'm a bit bored of my wardrobe, plus maybe some shoes and jewellery. I've also ordered some carpet samples as I want to replace my bedroom carpet when the shops open again, but I'm not sure those are treats!

Tessabelle74 · 15/04/2020 17:34

A new dinner set 😂 I've wanted a new one for ages as so many of my old set were chipped, and I was down to one bowl but couldn't justify the expense. Decided as I'm not spending close to £40 a week on diesel at the minute I'd get them

VerbenaGirl · 15/04/2020 17:37

Some summer flowering bulbs for the garden, seeing as going out at the moment mostly consists of sitting in the garden. It’s only a small garden, but hopefully these will really brighten it up and make us smile every day.

I've put my foot down and demanded 30 minutes with a pot of tea very early in the morning and watch the sun rise ON MY OWN. Cheap and remarkably sanity preserving when faced with a full day's onslaught from 4 small children.

Exactly the same except its twilight at the end of the day for me

PurpleDaisies · 15/04/2020 17:39

Focaccia from Sainsbury’s today.

Wheret0n0w · 15/04/2020 17:43

@winterisstillcoming what peels have you invested in?

Michellelovesizzy · 15/04/2020 17:49

Wine

BuntyCollocks · 15/04/2020 17:51

EmpressoftheMundane · 15/04/2020 17:52

EmpressoftheMundane · 15/04/2020 17:52

ice! Not I’ve!

FullOfCake · 15/04/2020 17:52

Ooo Costa coffee. I'd honestly murder a Costa latte right now. Are the dolce gusto ones any good?
