Does anyone actually think we are getting the 80%

By whatever method ... been chatting to business owners on linkedin and there is a growing feeling that they've no intention of paying this and it's literally a bone been thrown to stop the plebs rioting whilst the lockdown occurs. The USA and Australia have put actual money into peoples accounts. We have been given interest occurring holidays and a promise

Self employment funding is officially not coming until June

MrsPear · 14/04/2020 15:19

H will get nothing until the government pays his company. I don’t believe we get it. Plus it’s 2500 then you have to minus tax etc so it’s more like £1800 so a 40% drop. He is also usually paid weekly - so far no payday for a couple of weeks.

Paddingtonthebear · 15/04/2020 19:59

The claim portal for Employers to claim the 80% for PAYE will be ready on 20th April. Email from HMRC tonight:

I do payroll for a company of 25 employees. The company will pay the employees and then claim it back. We can claim back April (and any of March) when the HMRC portal opens at the end of April but won't get the money in our account until around mid-May I believe.

ChrissieKeller61 · 15/04/2020 20:11

What do we think beyond June ? Will the support continue

You have to put a bit of effort in and do a quick search on HMRC's website and see that they will contact you.

Thank you, I did manage that @AvalancheKit Hmm

'We'll contact you' doesn't tell me when I'm going to receive the money though does it? I have people waiting for payment and at the moment I can't give them a likely payment date. While my partner has been sent an email from HMRC, I haven't yet we're both self-employed.

Oblomov20 · 15/04/2020 20:19

It's bull shit. The portal is 'supposed' to be out April 21st. The payments won't be received till June.

That'll be too late. For some.

PorpoisefullyObtuse · 15/04/2020 20:20

There is genuinely a huge amount of information on all this support on the hmrc website.

Cluelessbeetroot · 15/04/2020 20:23

Scheme opens 20 April. The payments will be made within 6 working days. Check hmrc website
Ffs more mumsnet scaremongering !!!

Oblomov20 · 15/04/2020 20:25

6 days? Really? I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere.

Cluelessbeetroot · 15/04/2020 20:25

Here, email received from HMRC today.

Titsywoo · 15/04/2020 21:00

Good to see about the 6 days. We were told mid-May originally but clearly that has changed Smile.

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/04/2020 21:05

We just got the same email. A bit of an admin ballache - if you're under 100 staff you have to manually enter details - but c'est la vie!

Oblomov June is the date for the self employed support, not furlough

gwenneh · 15/04/2020 21:18

Both the USA and Australia have physically put the money in themselves via the universal credits equivalent.

Yes, the US started direct depositing stimulus money today, into bank accounts if a person had one registered with the IRS.

It's not the same. It's a very small, one off payment, with only several amounts based on the household size.

The UK system has many, many more moving parts to consider and even delayed, I'd much rather have had part of my salary and the ability to stay home than a loan of my own tax money from the US government that doesn't even replace a single pay period (even if I were eligible, which I am not) and the need to go to work every day.

gwenneh · 15/04/2020 21:28

@HoldMyLobster I don't know if it's the same where you are but in my state the grant money for small business owners ran out within one hour of the application being open.

HoldMyLobster · 15/04/2020 21:31

No it didn't - in fact my bank got in touch today to ask if I'm interested in a grant/loan, and the SBA just got back to me yesterday with more details about what's available.

BubblyBarbara · 15/04/2020 21:45

If you think about it logically.. if they can stretch out the payment just long enough, enough businesses will fail so that they don’t have to pay out quite as much furlough money. Cynical but I bet we see this happen to cut costs.

Comefromaway · 15/04/2020 21:50

I ran weekly payroll last Friday and am about to run another plus monthly payroll which will go in middle of next week.

Had notification today of how to claim it on behalf of the company I work for.

gwenneh · 15/04/2020 21:53

@HoldMyLobster Oh that's brilliant! Our state SBA said the money had "run out" meaning more applications than funds by 10:16 am. It's unlikely we'll get the funds we need.

So at least it's not a horror show in every state!

EdwardsNewJumper · 15/04/2020 21:56

Whose 'they' BubbyBarbara ?

Given that it's the Civil Service delivering this do you really think they are all in on this? Really? Have you actually thought about it logically? How would it work then -
they are just going to go slowly to save money?

ListeningQuietly · 15/04/2020 21:58

PMK while I pick my jaw up off the floor after reading so much misinformation in one thread

HoldMyLobster · 15/04/2020 22:02

So at least it's not a horror show in every state!

Now, don't mention unemployment benefits... that's a total shitshow. There's the money people are supposed to get, and then there's the fact that they can't enrol, can't get the money, can't get through on the phone...

gwenneh · 15/04/2020 22:05

Same. DH has had an hours reduction, just enough that we're not eligible for unemployment (and you have to be eligible for at least $1 to get the federal money) and it's not been processed. Even though he's not eligible, he was told to still file so the company could claim...something.

Apparently the system is written in COBOL and it's as old as I am -- no wonder it isn't working.

mrsbyers · 15/04/2020 22:13

You have no appreciation of the work going on within the Civil Service to develop these systems - people are working around the clock. Even setting up systems so that people can work processing claims safely and securely from home takes times to implement. The CS are frantically trying to redeploy staff into these new areas at a time when they were also under extreme pressure to introduce Brexit related systems

The sense of entitlement to instant handouts is astounding , there are many who are not entitled to any government help at all so be grateful and a bit patient eh ? They publicised the dates the systems will be available and are not late or planning anything devious
