To be annoyed about my neighbours complaining

About my children playing in the garden? And us playing music over the bank holiday weekend (not loud)? The children only play out when its nice weather so not that much, I’m happy they are outside and not stucknto ipads etc!

I think both are okay. I often hear other people's music in my garden and it doesn't bother me at all - if it really did I would go inside and shut the windows. Children - it's lovely to hear them outside playing. People get too uptight about things these day.

Swingingsally · 13/04/2020 23:37

Only out when sunny so not much?

Isn't that when all of us venture into garden?
Then our peace is ruined by someone else's music!

I am passionate about music. I'd LOVE to sit and blast out my music! Love too.
But I can't, not even on low. I'd certainly play it at a party once a year or a few hours children's party.
I feel really sorry for your neighbours. It's a shame everyone can't just have peace which is the bottom line to enjoy the little freedoms we have.

Children noise. Fine. Music. No.

LilacTree1 · 13/04/2020 23:37

I don’t have a garden

But if I did, and someone played music out loud, it wouldn’t be long before I did the same.

Rose789 · 13/04/2020 23:38

Kids playing and laughing no problem.
Kids in the garden for 8 hours screaming and screeching- god no.
Music from a neighbours garden for 8 hours- sounds bloody awful

AnyName1 · 13/04/2020 23:39

The fucking CHEEK of anyone thinking it's okay to make others listen to their music. It astounds me.

Purpleartichoke · 13/04/2020 23:41

Children playing is wonderful. It of course can get annoying, but it’s still wonderful. Just watch out for repetitive screaming for no reason (you know when the kid just stands there and screams on a beat like a dog yapping) or kicking a ball against a wall over and over.

Then turn of the music. If it can be heard across the property like it’s too loud

KatherineJaneway · 13/04/2020 23:45

Can your neighbours hear your music? If so it is loud.

WineOrWhine · 13/04/2020 23:47

My neighbours decided to treat us all to their music this weekend. James Blunt!
I was cross that I had to go inside, one of the nicest days so far this year.

WineOrWhine · 13/04/2020 23:47

I should add the noise of the children doesn’t bother me. The dad swearing at the kids does.

Sienna9522 · 13/04/2020 23:50

@Butterfly98 I couldn’t agree more!

InfiniteCurve · 13/04/2020 23:52

Do you really all want to live in a silent, miserable world while glued to your phone or iPad! You'll be complaining about the birds singing next!

I'm not living in a silent miserable world glued to my phone,I am in my garden listening to the wonderful sounds of outside.Including the birds, but not including anyone else's music - with the possible exception of the neighbour who occasionally plays guitar and sings in their garden.
Children ( and lawn mowing, the odd bit of building noise, low level chat etc) all good.
Music - please - no...

BuzzingtheBee · 13/04/2020 23:53

Im with you butterfly98!

The children have had so much taken away from them, Im not going to stop them enjoying music in the garden! And if I want to play music there I will. Happy for our neighbours to do it too!!

Children - YANBU

Music - YABVVU. I hate peoples who think they’re entitled to inflict their music on others.

Children YANBU
Music YABU!!

Africa2go · 13/04/2020 23:57

I agree with @Rose789. A bit of noise from children playing, maybe a couple of hours is fine. 8 hours?! Are you kidding?! We've been in the garden today (3 children). If they got screechy or started being too loud, they came in.

Music? If its very low, not really audible to the neighbours, fine. If its a one off (a Bank Holiday party in normal times), fine too. If its an indication of how you're going to behave every sunny day we're in lockdown? I'd be complaining too.

YABU

foamrolling · 13/04/2020 23:57

Huh? Why on earth would not wanting to listen to other peoples choice of music equals sitting on a phone or ipad?

That I can do with a cacophony of music. What I can't do is sit out and chill with a book or, yes actually, just listen to the birds singing.

Sparklesocks · 13/04/2020 23:57

@BuzzingtheBee fingers crossed nobody gets the subwoofer out then! But I guess you wouldn’t mind that as so much has been taken away from them

foamrolling · 13/04/2020 23:59

Oh please 'my children have had so much taken away from them'. Seriously. My kids had their bloody garden taken away from them because they couldn't handle being blasted from both sides by the neighbour's music!!

Cecilia2016 · 14/04/2020 00:00

I’m glad I live in a peaceful area without any music in the gardens. My former neighbour was a nuisances and played very loud music all day long In her front room with her front door open regardless of the weather

happychatty · 14/04/2020 00:00

Normal children playing, standard. Screaminggggg constantly, kicking balls constantly when all you want is a little serenity in a time of utter craziness... selfish

FlamingoAndJohn · 14/04/2020 00:01

And if I want to play music there I will.

So in short most people have told you why that’s not ok.
Your answer is ‘fuck you, I don’t card if it’s pissing you and everyone else off I’ll do it anyway.’

foamrolling · 14/04/2020 00:01

Add to that the fact that my vulnerable elderly neighbours who can't even go for a walk also had their garden taken away from them as they were struggling with the noise levels too!

Abracad · 14/04/2020 00:02

Wow. What an appalling attitude.

OhCaptain · 14/04/2020 00:03

Why did you ask if you’re so sure you’re right, and you’re going to call posts disagreeing with you stupid? Confused
