To be annoyed about my neighbours complaining

About my children playing in the garden? And us playing music over the bank holiday weekend (not loud)? The children only play out when its nice weather so not that much, I’m happy they are outside and not stucknto ipads etc!

Music in the garden or clearly audible from the house=inconsiderate twat. I would hate you as neighbours. What gives you the right to impose your music taste on others? If you want to listen to music, put on headphones. No-one else should be imposed upon.

SerendipitySunshine · 13/04/2020 23:19

It depends on the size of your gardens and the amount of noise your children were making. If either was audible to neighbours YWBVU.

indemMUND · 13/04/2020 23:20

If the kids aren't screaming constantly then no problem.
Music though... if I played my music I'm sure my neighbours wouldn't be happy. German heavy metal isn't everyone's cup of tea. But I certainly am sick of my neighbours blasting the radio, dubstep and ABBA/Westlife in their gardens. Music stays in the house here, at acceptable levels that won't bother anyone else.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 13/04/2020 23:20

Music for a short time (up to 20minutes) is okay. Any longer than that and it is irritating to be subjected to other people's choice.

BuzzingtheBee · 13/04/2020 23:21

Serendipity what a stupid responseHmm

My neighbour's kids have been playing outside a lot just lately. One of them has a really infectious laugh, and it is a joy to hear all the uncontrollable giggling. I wouldn't feel the same if they'd been playing any kind of music.

MamaBearLockdown · 13/04/2020 23:21

Why on earth is music in the garden unacceptable?
if the neighbours can hear it, it's too loud and anti-social. If you live in the middle of nowhere and don't bother anyone, go for it.

Same thing with music IN your house: if you live in a flat, you keep it down. If you live in a detached house, you have more freedom.

Did you really need to ask?
I do hope you haven't got neighbours.

BuzzingtheBee · 13/04/2020 23:22

Fnuts, we are in the minority it seems !!

snowybean · 13/04/2020 23:22

Music is fine in the middle of the day, as long as it's not 'hard to listen to' (i.e. easy listening!) or offensive. Once it gets to 5pm I'd get anxious they'd play it all evening/night though.

Kids being noisy? Sure! That's what they do.

justanotherneighinparadise · 13/04/2020 23:23

I agree with everyone else. Music outside - no. Wear headphones. Children playing - no problem. My neighbour likes to have very loud phone conversations in the garden too - wish she’d stop.

MamaBearLockdown · 13/04/2020 23:23

what a stupid response
it's obvious the neighbours were inconvenienced because you forced them to complain, but starting a thread complaining about them complaining? Really?

borishas1thumb · 13/04/2020 23:24

I think I'm weird - music (as long as it's not loud) great, kids bloody annoying.

Music played is generally the same volume, kids wax and wane so it's more intrusive.

People should be allowed to play music in their gardens just as kids are allowed to shout and whinge

indemMUND · 13/04/2020 23:24

@MrsFezziwig Exactly!

foamrolling · 13/04/2020 23:24

All of those sound horrendous FNuts. I'd hate to have that imposed on me. Add in a completely different type of music from other gardens and you have a really stressful cacophony of sound. It's possible to enjoy your garden without music. Or to enjoy music somewhere else.

It's not fair to ruin everyone elses enjoyment of their garden so you can have 'a giggle'

MamaBearLockdown · 13/04/2020 23:24

Kids being noisy? Sure! That's what they do.

I wish people could stop with that nonsense. Yes, a bit of noise is normal. Screaming, screeching, making a nuisance of yourself is not. Kids never have to scream and bother everybody else to have fun. You are a parent, teach them manners.

Yester · 13/04/2020 23:25

FNuts your music sounds fecking awful. Your neighbours must find it so annoying.

leesylou · 13/04/2020 23:26

Other peoples music is annoying OP. I live in a mid terrace and last week, due to the nice weather, everyone quite rightly spent most of their days in their gardens. Unfortunately, my neighbours either side of me both decided to put the radio on. Two different stations, all day! Both loud, presumably to drown out each other. I’m stuck in the middle of that. Drove me bonkers and I love music.

indemMUND · 13/04/2020 23:29

@FNuts Just because you think your taste in music is good that's okay for the neighbours? I could bring you the good word of Rammstein but you probably wouldn't appreciate listening to them in your garden. Even if my kid is dancing along because she likes it.

Notnownotneverever · 13/04/2020 23:29

Children - fine YANBU.
Music - hell no! YABU. It is beyond annoying to have other people’s music inflicted upon you, quiet or otherwise.

RiftGibbon · 13/04/2020 23:30

Neighbours at the back of us had music on the other day. It was horrible. Nobody who plays music loudly ever plays anything decent.
No problem with children playing out.

RiftGibbon · 13/04/2020 23:32

indem I would quite happily have listened if music neighbours were playing Rammstein.Grin

Butterfly98 · 13/04/2020 23:33

What the hell is wrong with the lot of you? Children playing outside and music playing sounds delightful to me and most people I know! During the glorious weather what could be better? @BuzzingtheBee has already confirmed the music isn't loud!

Anyone would think the OP has her children playing out at midnight with fireworks going off, strobe lighting and heavy rock music blaring from the rooftop! Do you really all want to live in a silent, miserable world while glued to your phone or iPad! You'll be complaining about the birds singing next!

OP you are definitely NOT being unreasonable! Your neighbours sound ghastly!

blue25 · 13/04/2020 23:35

Playing music in your garden is so rude. I want to sit and enjoy my garden, not listen to someone’s else’s choice in music.

P.S. loud, screaming children are also annoying

BeijingBikini · 13/04/2020 23:35

Music is like farts, you only like your own.

I would happily play house/drum and bass all day but neighbours would hate it. Equally if people play rap/rock/pop/shitty Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift then I would be fuming. Don't do it!

Numptydumptyfelloffthewall · 13/04/2020 23:36

Children - yanbu
Music - yabu, especially if your my neighbours who drunkenly karaoked along to purple rain on Saturday
