Couple doing the tango in finsbury park

I'm staying in. My family are staying in and elderly relatives really suffering with depression and loneliness but still following guidelines. I'm exercising by walking the dog early morning around the block. I.e streets close to my house. I don't need a park or a beach. I certainly dont need to dance the tango in finsbury park. AIBU to be disgusted in people and their clear disregard for others safety. I cant believe their behaviour.

Fun sponge to aisle 3...

GlummyMcGlummerson · 12/04/2020 21:43

Were they doing it to In Demand a la Sharleen Spiteri and Alan Rickman? If not they were BU.

Aw I love that video, it was what made me think "Cor I fancy the arse off you" about Alan Rickman 🥰

JellyfishandShells · 12/04/2020 21:43

So what if they are ‘showing off’ ? It’s what modern culture is built on, no talent celebs or instagram influencers.

If they choose to take their exercise that way, instead of a stroll around the block, it is no more dangerous in terms of transmission - and that is what counts, not the level of having fun ness.

daisypond · 12/04/2020 21:43

Nobody needs to practice a dance routine at the moment
What about professional dancers? They have to practise every day to keep up even a basic level of fitness. It’s part of their job, even if there are currently no performances.

Roussette · 12/04/2020 21:44

So watch out for the strategy of scapegoating a segment of the public. “Most of us are great - if only we didn’t have these rule breakers” (who are in fact only a tiny minority and aren’t really doing anything much that risky). You can see the Daily Mail is already trying to feed this line on a consistent basis

So agree with this. And little Matty Hancock was today at the briefing - when confronted about the high numbers and the fact that we might well be the worst in Europe - then went on to keep on about everyone staying in.
Like.... if the numbers rise it's the public's fault. Ummm no... herd immunity and passivity is why.

Roussette · 12/04/2020 21:45

Passivity by the Government in the early days, that is

FudgeBrownie2019 · 12/04/2020 21:46

I'm nodding frantically! I was 19 when it was released and I think it was my first proper 'older' man crush. He was just delicious in that video.

Everhopeful1 · 12/04/2020 21:46

If I were to walk down my street & see this I would be thrilled!

pitterpatterrain · 12/04/2020 21:46

Chinook Grin

Agreed

CaroleFuckinBaskin · 12/04/2020 21:46

People? Dancing? Smiling? In public?

DISCUSTING!!!

That's so true about scapegoating the public actually.

Roussette · 12/04/2020 21:46

As I said, at the moment it could encourage others to do the same

That's a very weak excuse. I cannot imagine for one minute we're going to get swathes of people doing the Argentinian Tango all over parks in Britain.

gingerbreadslice · 12/04/2020 21:47

This is weird to even be worried about their just dancing and if I was to see them I'd smile life's gloomy enough right now. Last thing on my mind would be to to even worried about this at all Confused

alltripe · 12/04/2020 21:50

If have smiled if I had come across them, god knows I need something to make me smile.

It’s not actually a competition to have the most miserable life. Something a lot of people on here are seemingly failing to understand.

Russellbrandshair · 12/04/2020 21:50

So what? They’re exercising - we are allowed to do that

BilboBercow · 12/04/2020 21:50

Tell the truth op. They're just having more fun than you like aren't they?

MouthBreathingRage · 12/04/2020 21:50

@TemoraryUsername fUN poLIcE are oUt At ThE MOmenT. God that argument is so boring, just because someone disagrees with a bit of the 'look at mes'. Not everyone cares to see a dance routine, T-Rex costumes or little Sarah singing You'll Never Walk Alone at the end of her driveway. Just because Covid is miserable, doesn't mean every Tom, Dick and Harry putting on a performance in empty spaces is the most beautiful thing humanity has ever seen. Isn't Britain's Got Talent back on for that sort of contrived, faux-emotional feeling?

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 12/04/2020 21:51

@Roussette

Who has said that? I follow everything closely and nowhere has it been said that. Have you got a source for that?

It was sarcasm Hmm

Cosima1 · 12/04/2020 21:51

Perspicacia - does the OP need to explain this again to you and the entire nation? Go out early as early as possible. Get a dog if you don’t already have one. Then walk, head down, around the block. Nowhere else. Do not pause. Do NOT be tempted to move anything except your legs and certainly, ensure at all times that you do not give off an impression of enjoying it. If you see anyone doing anything else, move those feet faster and get home ASAP to proclaim it on high via MN.

Useryokyesno · 12/04/2020 21:52

Omg! How on earth is doing a quick dance in public different from walking in public. You're being redic and pathetic. I'm absolutely fucking sick of people fucking picking away at other people's behaviour and tiny transgressions. Seemingly implying they are the ones responsible for the spread and death rate. When they should be actually spending their time and effort talking and thinking about that shit show of government action on this issue. The late lockdown, poorly equipped hospitals and lack of testing. Honestly I can't fucking take it anymore!

SharonasCorona · 12/04/2020 21:52

Can all the Stasi just bore off. I've not stepped out of the house in 4 weeks and these threads are just boring.

returnofthecat · 12/04/2020 21:52

@Roussette Agreed - if I saw a couple doing the tango, I might think, oh, I really wish I could dance like that. One day, when this is all over, maybe I'll take lessons.

I wouldn't start actually doing the tango - most British folk are too self-conscious to make a fool of themselves dancing in daylight whilst sober. Only the keen amateurs/pros would feel tempted to actually start dancing, and I doubt many were walking past! Most of us have two left feet and/or have never taken lessons!

PotholeParadise · 12/04/2020 21:52

I understood that there was a difference between exercise and hobby.

Exercise is basically everything that involves moving around and increasing your heart rate. Colloquially, we tend to reserve the term exercise for activities we don't enjoy and which we can only force ourselves to do by concentrating very very hard on the calorie burn per hour. We call it a hobby if you enjoy yourself during the activity and it isn't a conscious penance for your jaffa cakes the night before.

However, whether you enjoy it or not doesn't actually change whether something is a form.of exercise. It only changes how easy it is to keep to your chosen fitness routine.

If you spend half an hour walking grimly round the block because you feel you should, and they spend half an hour exuberantly dancing, there is no difference between their risk for catching/transmitting coronavirus and yours. The only difference is that they've done a more stenuous form of exercise than you, as dance is higher impact than walking.

Oh, and they're happier afterwards.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 12/04/2020 21:53

I really wish that people panicking about the numbers would, rather than blaming Betty down the road who takes her shitzhu for 2 walks a day, realise that's our government MASSIVELY cocked this up, refused to see what was happening in Italy and Spain and denied that it could happen here. We should have had lockdown much sooner, but didn't, and THAT is what has cost lives

But bloody Betty ey, and bloody tango dancers literally killing people Hmm

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/04/2020 21:53

I suppose it depends if they were performing or practising. You wouldn't stop to watch us dance the same little section over and over again, possibly with a bit of arguing!

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 12/04/2020 21:54

We should all be walking around like Zohan!
Disco, disco, good, good
