I’m not knowledgeable enough to post much on these threads but have learned so much, thanks all regular (and occasional) posters.

I've learnt so much too, about the US but also about how democracies can be dismantled and how quickly this can happen.

The Trump presidency is a daily illustration of this process and a warning to us all.

I'm curious to see how many of the 2000 will attend this event on Sunday and whether the calculations on the numbers will be done in a Trump manner.

It's just more and more insanity, isn't it? I'd like to say it's hard to believe we've gotten to thread 100, but honestly, it's not. By now we'd have all exploded if we didn't have here to vent.

Gov Newsom is sticking to our 'crisis point' as mid-May and saying we have a long way to go before restrictions get lifted. Scrotus is starting an 'Open the Country Taskforce'. The object of which will, I'm sure, be to gather random facts and conspiracy theories and stitch them together to justify ending lockdowns before it is safe to do so.

Thanks for no. 100, lion! Hard to believe, but I’m glad we’ve had the fortitude to make it this far.

I doubt it Lweji. They are in too deep and there have been so many turning points. But this is such uncharted territory nothing is certain.

It's horrible to think that the USA now has one-fifth of cv19 deaths worldwide, in a population a quarter the size of those of India and China. It is really shocking that Trump's inertia and folly has caused this to happen.

Are Trump's briefings harming him?
I hope so, because they're not helping anyone else.

It's one thing bumbling on in his usual way about whatever thought half-materialises in his head but quite another to be doing this at a time of crisis when so many lives are at stake.

His Twitter feed with its boasts about ratings is equally damning.

Unless you are the kind of person who thinks the virus is a hoax you would have to wonder what kind of President you have and where his common decency is located.
