To think it's my bloody house and garden so I'll have a bbq or bonfire if i want too?

Just as the title suggests really.

We're already confined to our homes for the most part, why are people now trying to control what we can and cannot do in our own gardens?

Need to find as much joy as possible or I'll join all the other near alcoholics that have evolved at this point.

Is this thread about bonfires then?
Have I missed something?
( wouldn’t surprise me, I usually do 😂)

TheCanterburyWhales · 09/04/2020 23:42

@Movinghouseatlast
Do you feel all big and superior now?

ttim985y · 09/04/2020 23:42

Has it passed some people by that there's a respiratory virus doing the rounds Hmm

Bonfires are awful at the best of times

LastTrainEast · 09/04/2020 23:43

Werkwerkwerkwerkwerkwerk It's not the BBQ that is the problem, but the idiots inviting friends and neighbours round.

Mistymonday · 09/04/2020 23:43

Just recovering from CV, idiot next door neighbour lit very smoky bonfire = back to being breathless and coughing again for 24 hours. Lungs are still ropey! Unbelievably selfish during a lung disease epidemic and could really harm someone fighting the illness near you! No-one NEEDS to have a bonfire, sorry YABVVU!

ttim985y · 09/04/2020 23:43

@CazM2012 I'm sure you can report them to the council if it's over a certain number of days

Aquamarine1029 · 09/04/2020 23:46

Fuck off with your bonfire.

nancy75 · 09/04/2020 23:46

I’ve been in bed coughing myself silly for over 2 weeks, I need the windows open for fresh air. I really don’t need bonfire smoke making me cough more.

Britishsubject · 09/04/2020 23:48

Your attitude is pretty shit.

BestZebbie · 09/04/2020 23:48

By bonfire is everyone talking about a 5th November, watch out for hedgehogs, ground level way to dispose of a pile of garden trimmings?

Because I don't really see much difference between cooking sausages over a small campfire of kindling in a fire basket and cooking them over coal in terms of impact of neighbours, otherwise.

PoorlyWeasels · 09/04/2020 23:49

Our NDN has taken advantage of these beautiful light evenings by having a smoky bonfire 3 days running. Really annoyed now that I stopped DH having one beforehand, because it wasn't fair on everyone else. My washing was still on the line the first night.

Medievalist · 09/04/2020 23:50

As said above - there is a deadly respiratory disease doing the rounds. Why make it harder for those suffering to breathe? Confused

There are an awful lot of people who like to enjoy their gardens without inhaling smoke from inconsiderate neighbours.

The environment is benefitting hugely at the moment from the lack of air pollutants. Why not let everyone enjoy clean air for a while?

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 09/04/2020 23:53

No problem having a bonfire OP, just keep the smoke confined to your own house & garden.

Britishsubject · 09/04/2020 23:54

Seriously go look at them thread someone has written about their dear mother being on a ventilator and then think about yourself as a person.

Lalala205 · 09/04/2020 23:54

Are you talking about a fire pit? Or a setting fire to an old mattresses type of bonfire?

Tolleshunt · 09/04/2020 23:54

To think it's my bloody house and garden so I'll have a bbq or bonfire if i want too?

why are people now trying to control what we can and cannot do in our own gardens?

Well, I’d you can guarantee to contain all the smoke within your boundary then you have a point. Otherwise, you are affecting other people and that makes it reasonable for them to have a say.

So can you?

Iamamoleinthegarden · 09/04/2020 23:55

Carcinogenic bonfire smoke. Lovely.

CrocodilesCry · 09/04/2020 23:55

Lighting a bonfire when there’s a killer lung virus on the rampage is a dick move.
If you can’t see that then you’re a knob.

Lalala205 · 09/04/2020 23:56

I don't think anyone has suggested no one can have bbqs though. So long as you're not inviting other people round.

AprilFloundering · 10/04/2020 00:00

Oh. You're one of those, OP. Hmm

Yes, we're all stuck at home and it's your garden. But YOU'RE being an arsehole to decide you'll just have bonfires then because you like them even though they're horrible for EVERYONE ELSE who has to live near you, also trapped at home, especially those downwind.

Kindly fuck off and stop being such a selfish shit.

AprilFloundering · 10/04/2020 00:01

... and during a time that people's lungs are already struggling if they have the virus or are trying to recover from it, FFS

managedmis · 10/04/2020 00:02

Awful

MidnightBlue28 · 10/04/2020 00:03

Our council have been asking people not to have bonfires during lockdown:

We know that Coronavirus can affect the chest and if residents are exposed to bonfire smoke it could make their symptoms worse. Please be a good neighbour and avoid lighting a bonfire. Please hold on to your garden waste until the service resumes and your excess waste until Community Recycling Centres reopen

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 10/04/2020 00:03

BBQ - yes

Bonfire - no The pits for other people trying to enjoy their gardens. Really antisocial. Bad for asthma sufferers.

Checkyspeck · 10/04/2020 00:05

We’re having a BBQ tomorrow. Don’t think an actual bonfire would go down too kindly though...
