Is it just every week we are in lockdown or is that it forever and we have become a nation of clappers? Do I need to move?

TheMustressMhor · 09/04/2020 20:45

After all, we've clapped for everyone else, so why not cats?

j712adrian · 09/04/2020 20:46

clapping like seals and voting Tory to destroy the NHS

MLMsuperfan · 09/04/2020 20:46

It achieves nothing, but it makes you feel like you're doing something.

You have to be a bit simple to do it in my opinion.

wonderstuff · 09/04/2020 20:46

I'm very glad I don't have a baby or toddler, must be very annoying. Also what's the point, nhs need proper funding and equipment, not a weekly cheer. I'm not feeling it.

Iggly · 09/04/2020 20:46

Clapping like a sea lion on amphetamines isn’t going to actually achieve anything long term

Hmm
Kazziek · 09/04/2020 20:46

The tv channel.we were watching had 30s of clapping and 'thanks to our carers' too. No escape anywhere. I am very very grateful to everyone working in all of this, but object to being told I must clap

Hippee · 09/04/2020 20:46

Friends have just posted a video of our local hospital with ambulance blue lights flashing and doctors and nurses clapping. Every doctor and nurse I know has appreciated it, so I will clap. Think fireworks are ridiculous though, and money should be donated instead.

RhubarbTea · 09/04/2020 20:47

I find it excruciatingly awkward and awful and haven't joined in yet. I support the NHS massively but this just feels like virtue signalling bollocks.
Each to their own, though.

480Widdio · 09/04/2020 20:47

Saving my applause for when this is over, hardly anyone out tonight in my village.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 09/04/2020 20:48

YABU
Don't clap then.
Nobody's forcing you to.
I think it's nice - the street comes out and claps for a few minutes, seems a nice community thing to do!
Never really used to see my neighbours before all this lol

Kuponut · 09/04/2020 20:48

@Kazziek well let's face it - there's no escape from anything else in this lockdown so inescapable enforced clapping kind of fits!

melissasummerfield · 09/04/2020 20:48

Clapping didnt bother me but the two households of grown adults out banging saucepans for 5 minutes has pissed me off tonight Angry

ListeningQuietly · 09/04/2020 20:48

Scared birds
Scared cats
Scared dogs
Scared hedgehogs
Scared wildlife

for a bunch of virtue signalling
by people who voted for Austerity in 2010, 2015, 2017 and 2019

joystir59 · 09/04/2020 20:48

Effing clapping, banging, and effing fireworks every effing week! Pointless, useless, patronising shite!

MLMsuperfan · 09/04/2020 20:48

One of the firework idiots is going to light it the wrong end and end up in A&E.

The80sweregreat · 09/04/2020 20:49

I want a decent NHS and never voted conservative but there's nothing wrong with this. I wished I could do more but I do support my dads care home ; it's a small thing but to feel grateful for people doing a hard job can't be a bad thing?
I just hope the ones on the frontline are continued to be supported.

PerfidiousAlbion · 09/04/2020 20:49

I got my maracas out this week

Grin best comment so far

joystir59 · 09/04/2020 20:50

Reminds me of those wind up monkeys banging cymbols

Sosadandempty · 09/04/2020 20:50

I don’t think it is necessarily virtue signalling. I do it in my porch, hide from my neighbours a bit, and don’t post about it on social media for example. It honestly made me feel less alone this evening, and I have been struggling a bit today. We are going through a collective trauma, though I know that things are a lot harder for some than for others, and knowing that many of us are all doing it at the same time means something IMO.

BetsyJameson · 09/04/2020 20:51

I’m jealous of the streets with trumpets, drums and the singing! We had lots of clapping and a bell ringing. It’s a bit of light relief and the chance to wave to our neighbours and think about all the wonderful key workers working hard. Stay indoors if you don’t want to join in.

TryingToBeBold · 09/04/2020 20:51

15 mins after I put my DD to bed... fuck off!

LGY1 · 09/04/2020 20:51

I am really annoyed by this tonight.
Why oh why is it at 8pm?!

The situation in my house is a 6 month pregnant key worker who is working from home juggling a hyperactive toddler, with a husband who has had a shit day, having to go to work 2 hours away to sort out PPE for a ton of other key workers, will have done 16 hours today when he gets home.
Toddler is playing up about bedtime because Daddy isn’t here, i was nearly in tears, he was just starting to settle when the pissed up households on the street started whooping and banging pans starting the process all over again.
It’s nearly 9 & I’m still up and down like a yo-yo.

PerfidiousAlbion · 09/04/2020 20:52

I suspect that the people who’re clapping are the same ones who clap the pilot when the plane lands. Wink

Oldraver · 09/04/2020 20:52

My neighbour was banging her bloody wheelir bin lid

Tory massive majority area as well

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 09/04/2020 20:52
