to do my next lot of food shopping at M&S food?

It’s actually my nearest food shop, in 5 mins walking distance.

I haven’t been in physical proximity to anyone except DP and DS since 11 March. None of us are ill.

I am not of the opinion that ‘essentials’ means bread, milk and veg - food is essential. I like M&S food products and can afford to keep the economy and stock turnover going a bit.

I will not be dawdling, chatting to anyone or handling any products that I don’t purchase.

I miss their hot cross buns: before social distancing and lockdown began, had been working my way through the different flavours.

Shop where you like, why do you think that's unreasonable? It's not like you're driving to some.far flung shopping centre to browse shoes.

It’s a food shop so why not?

I boycott them so they wouldn’t be my choice but no reason for you not to use them.

I was hoping it would be quieter than other food shops too. They sell essential items so I'm sure it's fine to get a few nice bits along with your weekly shop

It's a good shop like any other. Why wouldn't you if it's where you want to shop?

M and S Food is genuinely our closest food shop , it's a whole 3 minutes walk away whereas sainsbury's is about a 10 minute walk away. It has not remotely occurred to me there is any reason I wouldn't use it.

Ours and I suspect all have blocked off any non food purchases. Ours operates like the other shops a queuing system and social distancing markets.

No reason not to.

I see it as shopping in M&S because I can afford to leaves the food etc to be available to those who's budget won't stretch. And the ques are shorter and more civilised

I think anyone saying ‘why wouldn’t you?’ hasn’t seen a lot of the Coronavirus threads where the very idea of buying a food shop that includes treats and nice snacks rather than bread, milk and spinach is veeeeery frowned upon!

@stressbucket1 I also think it will be quieter. My local Tesco is mobbed & there is not much social distancing being observed inside.

I’ll report back!

M&S food shopping has been great. Hardly any queue when the tesco queue is halfway down the street; loads of selection, not many shoppers, loads of staff cleaning and disinfecting trolleys....

The reductions have been sensational, too, 30p - 50p for pies and curries, 60p for chicken drumsticks, fill your freezer...

Are you reticent because M&S is seen as more a luxury brand? Honestly, food is good. I have been surviving on their pornstar martinis, frankly....

Yes, ours is deserted and the raw ingredients are excellent. The fruit, meat, and veg is brilliant. You pay over the odds for cereal, pasta, etc, but now that the other shops have stopped all discounts the price difference isn't great.

I've been doing all our shopping there -and it feels like a lockdown present to the family to have such nice food. We aren't spending money on anything else - so extra nice strawberries are a treat.

Ours hasn't closed off non essentials, I was there yesterday and after queueing outside for 10 mins (no biggie), I had a lovely splurge on potted hyacinths, greetings cards and easter eggs as well as the boring stuff. There were only about 5 or 6 customers in the (small) store at any one time so all very civilised.

It’s fine. Why wouldn’t it be? And why are you even asking? You know that someone will come along and say that hot cross buns aren’t essential. Then someone else will say that people will die because of your actions. Then someone else will say you should think of key workers who’d love to have a hot cross bun.

I went to M and S food one evening last week purely to buy a curry and everyone was doing exactly the same. It was actually really quiet too.

It’s a shop that is allowed to trade and you can buy whatever you like in there. Given you haven’t been out for so long it will feel like Christmas.

Ours hasn’t blocked off all non food purchases. It is only a food shop, but you can still buy other things they have like daffodils or birthday cards.

Of course you can go to M&S.

That's bollocks though and everyone, including you, knows it. Shops are stocking food with the intention of selling it; it's not for show, then to be sent to landfill when it goes out of date.

I went to M&S yesterday on purpose just to buy there hot cross buns!

It was close to another shop I went in first.
