to do my next lot of food shopping at M&S food?

It’s actually my nearest food shop, in 5 mins walking distance.

I haven’t been in physical proximity to anyone except DP and DS since 11 March. None of us are ill.

I am not of the opinion that ‘essentials’ means bread, milk and veg - food is essential. I like M&S food products and can afford to keep the economy and stock turnover going a bit.

I will not be dawdling, chatting to anyone or handling any products that I don’t purchase.

I miss their hot cross buns: before social distancing and lockdown began, had been working my way through the different flavours.

Tesco is our nearest food shop, but there's an M&S food about a minutes walk further that is less crowded and far better stocked, so that's where DS or DD have been going for anything that we've been unable to have delivered.

coconuttelegraph · 09/04/2020 19:59

I can't get a food delivery for love nor money. Last one we had was two weeks ago. We now need more fresh stuff. Fuck it - I'm going to Waitrose when I finish work although Tesco is closer. I don't normally shop in Tesco anyway

If you can go to the supermarket on the way home from work why are you trying to get a delivery? They are meant to be for vunerable only now.

Was in M&S yesterday. The queue moved fairly quickly and they had lots of stuff. The guy at the door said I had come at a good time as they were restocking shelves. There was someone going round sanitising practically anything that moved. Got lots of stuff so no need to go out again for a while. The only bugbear was a woman who was browsing the newspapers as in actually reading them. Was waiting the proper distance waiting for her to move and no she didn't buy oneHmm Sainsbury was just across the road and I went there for some things as well. No queue and very few people so very easy to social distance. Had a lot of aisles to myself. And on the way out called in Boots for something Sainsbury didn't have (for my mum) and got a bonus of two hand sanitizers (I was the only person in shop). Still was glad to get home as shopping is now just something that has to be done and get over with.
Haven't been to the local Tesco's for a few weeks as I have heard the queues are horrendous. Would rather pay more in Mark's or Sainsbury and feel that bit safer or as safe as one can be.

Why would you not! I used to work opp one and you can do your weekly shop pretty much. Our nearest one is v small so I don’t fancy it on the social distancing front.

PickAChew · 09/04/2020 22:20

@balmytissues my shop this morning was fruit, veg, sausages, chicken thighs, pork pies, some lunch bits, yes an Indian meal deal, eggs, bread, hot cross buns, wine and some white chocolate fried eggs.

Better still, no item limits.

PickAChew · 09/04/2020 22:21

OK, this afternoon by the timr I got in.

doodleygirl · 09/04/2020 22:25

Another stupid food thread. Shop where you like, I assume you are a grown up who can make a decision as to where to shop without asking strangers on the internet?

anothermansmother · 09/04/2020 22:33

Go for it m&s food is lovely. I've been doing my nan's shopping in there too, the only problem is I had to queue for 40 mins to get in as ours is only a small store, but it is well stocked and there isn't 100's of knobheads buying loads of everything so managed to get everything including my nan's very essential hot cross buns.

mumto2teenagers · 09/04/2020 22:45

We have an M&S food near us, approx the same distance as the nearest Tesco. We went last weekend, did get essentials but also alcohol, chocolate and a plant for the living room.

It was much quieter than Tesco and as it had most items in stock we now won’t need to leave the house again for a while

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 10/04/2020 13:21

doodleygirlwhat a knobbish post. Why did you even need to reply to the OP if the subject didn't interest you?

coconuttelegraph · 10/04/2020 13:24

Good to see that the government has today confirmed you can buy whatever the shop is selling, perhaps all the stupidity about essential items can now stop.

Go to the supermarket, buy whatever the hell you like there.

nicslackey · 10/04/2020 13:25

chicchic "What the actual eff is this thread about???" It's a stealth boast and I just can't be bothered today!!

Isleepinahedgefund · 10/04/2020 13:27

Utterly bizarre thread. Why wouldn’t you go to a food shop to buy your food?
