Facebook groups im a member of
Tattle life - it gets a bad rep but it's way more supportive than mumsnet has ever been. The piles on on MN feel like people kicking others while they're down for fun

Interesting topic. Bulletin boards have been around since the 1980s, although the world wide web (web sites / web browsers) only appeared starting in the early 1990s. Then it become mainstream by the late 1990s. That's still more than 20 years ago and so it was inevitable that we would get a parenting site. Mumsnet is good at tacking all sorts of life issues though, so the nearest I can think to MN would be thesite.org which addresses life issues, just for younger people. I think TheSite recently got renamed to TheMix.

Ginkypig · 08/04/2020 21:51

Well I thought that today after the announcement about premium mn if the free version becomes too annoying to use or gets full of advertisements etc

My conclusion though was well I did fine before i discovered mumsnet and I'm sure after I would eventually find another site or another site would pop up because if I feel like that then others would too an lots of people would move away from here so someone would cash in on it and set up a site to catch those people because that's how things work.

What subreddits do you all hang around on on Reddit? I find it so American focused...

Reddit - although have you seen MN Trolls on it?

Nasty stuff.

BikeRunSki · 08/04/2020 21:55

Run Mummy Run FB page is a lot like the less serious areas of MN, and largely not about running!

TheMustressMhor · 08/04/2020 21:55

Tell you what - I'll start a new site of my own.

How can MN be struggling after only a handful of weeks of lockdown? It made over 2m profit after tax last year!

Probably mse, and tattle life. Agree that Tattle gets a bad rep, but there are parts of the forum that are quite supportive. (didn't it start when people became fed up with the gurugossip boards?)
If mumsnet goes there's every chance something similar will just take it's place. I remember the old days when handbag.com forums were huge and quite similar to old mumsnet. They changed their website though resulting in many leaving and it was never the same again. A shame as there were some really lovely people there. Digital spy also used to be good but has been shockingly bad for years now.
