Just that really.

OP posts:

I might just read a book instead.

Bananabixfloof · 12/04/2020 16:47

Reddit, mse, the farms, data lounge.
Actually am on all of those so i would not see a need to find another forum.

MamaBearLockdown · 12/04/2020 16:49

I am not sure MN is that bothered about other forums. Some posters thought the reddit sub would be the end of MN. Obviously it never was. People get bored of it and return to MN.

Once the 1st curiosity is gone, and people realise it's the same anyway, they come back.

Not sure that's going to happen if we have to pay for the privilege Confused

MarshaBradyo · 12/04/2020 17:17

I’m not convinced mn needed the funds to keep the lights on as here we all still are. Not many gave compared with outgoings.

But if it does fold then people who want it have the new place set up already.

SlipSlidin · 12/04/2020 17:54

Mums.chat looking good to me, easy to navigate and decent intelligent discussion.

It’s astonishing how badly designed this place is when you realise how much money they’ve been making before.

What the hell have they been doing with the cash?

GreyhoundzRool · 12/04/2020 18:13

I’ve barely been on here since this all started with the Corona Virus - just pop in randomly. I don’t miss the hysteria and don’t expect to spend much time here in future. In answer to your question I’d spend time on a couple of forums relating to my hobbies. They’re not as fast moving as here, but I think that’s a good thing as it means I won’t spend so much time online

dukenez · 12/04/2020 21:01

I really don't like the new MSE forum and mn is too basic.

BeijingBikini · 12/04/2020 21:38

Yes I can't really deal with the hysteria on the corona threads anymore - anyone who steps out of line for any reason is STUPID and SELFISH and a MURDERER. Yawn. It seems like everyone's gone loopy from not having gone out for 2 months. I'd rather just have some lighthearted chat about TV shows or house prices rather than frothing about someone's neighbour.

Oh and you can't even call it hysteria because it's misogynistic

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 12/04/2020 21:46

Completely agree; there are about one, maybe two threads a week at the moment that pique my interest because the Corona madness has been allowed to wreak absolute havoc on here.

I definitely agree it’s everyone’s main and (in the case of me and DH only) topic of convo at the moment as - well - everything else has stopped, but honestly....

The outstanding hysteria (and I hate that word), and mini oberstgruppenfurhers riding roughshod over relatively innocent posters on this forum over their actions (ITS NOT ALOUD) has left me quite honestly worrying that if they are the prevailing norm, what hope do we have in a new post Corona world?

suspended · 12/04/2020 22:00

Tattle.life

MandyDingle · 13/04/2020 01:24

@Inappropriatefemale - can I ask what true crime subreddits you'd recommend? I’m in a few but I can always make time for more Grin

namechangetheworld · 13/04/2020 03:05

Netmums, if I'm being truthful.

I absolutely love Reddit, but not for parenting/family related chat.

Inappropriatefemale · 13/04/2020 09:06

@MandyDingle tbh it’s mainly the Chris Watts one I follow, I have never ever seen so many subs about the same crime, it’s beyond fascinating.

everyrosehasathorn · 13/04/2020 10:59

I had no intention of looking at Mums.Chat....but I did & I have to admit it’s looking impressive.

MrsCastiel · 13/04/2020 11:11

I had a look at Mums chat.

It's not for me. It's basically a place to whinge about Mumsnet, which is fine. Very heavy handed moderation though. Go against the grain and you're gone (same as I can see with Tattle, I read their talk guidelines and it basically says you're not allowed to argue the point, scroll by. If you do your comment will be deleted etc etc) for all of Mumsnets faults, at least you can state your opinion.

If you want an echo chamber, Mums chat is for you.

Dddddddeborahh · 13/04/2020 11:51

I'd love to go on mum.chat but can't decide between a kitten or a penquin for my pic!!

everyrosehasathorn · 13/04/2020 12:11

@Dddddddeborahh kitten obviously!

khellev · 13/04/2020 12:15

Can someone fill me in on this all. Why is a tech company like mumsnet short of cash so quickly? What is mums chat?

PorridgeShotgun · 13/04/2020 12:18

I'm very new to mumsnet I only discovered it this year, after I had my first child and started to have some breathing space to do "me" things again.

I come here for the wit of the posters and the intelligent discussions that do come up, amidst some of the vitriol.

In my RL I have felt increasingly isolated as a former DINKY, whose friends have all got older kids. My RL local mum's groups aren't a good fit for me; age wise, in terms of life experience and at the risk of sounding horribly Hyacinth Bouquet, interest/education wise. Think the mothership of "the huns".

MN has given me a chance to virtually socialise with people I have a bit more in common with, other than we both have kids the same age.

I can't afford £50 a year right now, and in all honesty as much as I sympathise with them trying to keep afloat, the posters rather the site are what adds value.

MN functionality is clunky, out of date and moderation decisions should be more cohesive and transparent. So no not worth £5 a month in its current form.

Shannith · 13/04/2020 12:18

Heaven help me if I get properly back into Twitter. Though I used to have lots of fun, it's even more addictive.

TeensArghhhh · 13/04/2020 12:39

What happens if you don’t want to pay? Do we get banned?

MarshaBradyo · 13/04/2020 12:53

Teens no you get to keep using it for free

TeensArghhhh · 13/04/2020 12:57

Teens no you get to keep using it for free

Confused now lol 🤔

So why are people paying for something they can use for free?

MarshaBradyo · 13/04/2020 13:00

Teens two reasons I think

  • the promise of a vague improvement in the future (editing mentioned may not happen now)
  • but mostly a kind of message of need which some have listened to

I know I’m providing content which earns others money so that’s fine. Won’t be changing it and paying. We provide all the content.
