Just that really.

OP posts:

Yes, or in other words, an echo chamber. What’s the point in that? I’m not fragile I don’t need to be protected from people who disagree and why bother sitting round saying ‘I think this’ and everyone else there nodding along. At least mumsnet lets you find out what people think of you Grin

Chiyo666 · 10/04/2020 17:26

You can’t really compare mumsnet and reddit though, they’re completely different. It’s not an echo chamber, but obviously if you’re posting on a subreddit, everyone else is there for that same interest so is there less falling out. Not like mumsnet where every post appears on a time line and anyone can click and comment.

MamaMeeAh · 10/04/2020 17:46

MN is fairly unique in being a place where people come back again and again to fight with each other. It's a bit masochistic in a way Grin

QuaffthisKindNepenthe · 10/04/2020 18:55

Most subreddits don't use downvotes to silence dissenting voices, IME. The Mumsnet-themed ones does, but they are a bit hive minded.

user1471590586 · 10/04/2020 18:57

Reddit or Netmums

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 10/04/2020 19:54

I find Reddit so weird, for me it has echoes of 4chan (I think it’s the techy layout) and that’s somewhere I’d rather not visit any time again soon.

A long time ago my go to was Drowned in Sound but that’s basically incel central now

NeneValley · 10/04/2020 19:59

Would just continue with my other usual websites really. Reddit, plus all my boaty stuff.

I wouldn’t miss it I don’t think.

BeijingBikini · 10/04/2020 20:30

Mumsnet is an addictive habit but ultimately it offers an ersatz version of connection that leaves you feeling unsatisfied, like chewing gum when what's really required is proper nourishment!

Thank you for saying what I always felt but could never quite word correctly!

Carbosug · 10/04/2020 20:43

Thanks for the suggestions ré children's book websites.

So, let me get this right. A woman, her two daughters aged 4 and 3 and her unborn child were murdered by her husband. And people write about it on reddit because they can "go right in to" the dynamics of their marriage and discuss how she wasn't an angel. And some people find this opportunity "amazing".

I am pretty much lost for words. What's wrong with you?

drunkyhumptydumpty · 10/04/2020 21:24

🙄

lljkk · 10/04/2020 21:27

Twitter.

MrsKoala · 10/04/2020 21:32

I wouldn't go anywhere. I'm almost computer/internet illiterate and found MN 10 years ago when going thru a bad time so only have ever been on here. I can barely use FB and have never been on any other kind of social media site apart from once on Reddit to read about MN trolls but I didn't really like it.

My friend told me i'd like Twitter but I cant understand how to use it when it's described to me so i'd probably just stick to RL. Previous to lockdown I only was coming on here about every 3 weeks anyway so i'd happily return to that or nothing.

finks100 · 10/04/2020 21:34

Probably tattle.

BeijingBikini · 10/04/2020 22:10

I quite like Reddit - I once spent about 2 months of my notice period on the Love Island subreddit because I had no work to do. I mainly go on it to discuss TV shows in detail, when I've just finished binge watching one and am dying to know what other people thought!

Also, InstagramReality, that is an absolute classic Grin

ChocolateDove · 10/04/2020 22:19

I hate reddit, but if this goes, it will have to do.

Looks like Tattle have launched MumsChat.... it even has AIBU! Shame the format in which it’s presented is really rickety.

Fair play to them for seeing an opportunity and exploiting it but I hope it doesn’t kill Tattle IYSWIM.

Why can’t we all just get along? GrinGrinGrin

HennyPenny4 · 11/04/2020 07:39

I probably need to try harder with Reddit - it seemed to be teen/twenties males trying to out-wittify each other with 'hilarious' quips, US quips at that. Dire.
I did choose special subredits but the point about Mn is the random mix.

QuaffthisKindNepenthe · 11/04/2020 08:16

There seem to be a lot of people accusing MN of exploiting the COVID-19 situation to launch Premium, who themselves have now launched or are heavily promoting their own forums to poach MN users in the fallout.

They do not see their own behaviour as opportunistic, though. Odd.

O wad some power, etc.

AllTheseThingsThatIHaveNotDone · 11/04/2020 08:16

Have wandered over to MumsChat...we could all play nice, I chat to any fecker Grin Tattle Life, in fairness, kept their Philip Schofield threads up (and then some, think they are on #12 now) and Jack Monroe (they were coming up to #3) so if that forum has similar moderation as well as edit function and a like button, it will be interesting how it plays out.

MamaMeeAh · 11/04/2020 08:30

There seem to be a lot of people accusing MN of exploiting the COVID-19 situation to launch Premium, who themselves have now launched or are heavily promoting their own forums to poach MN users in the fallout.

But the difference is their motives for doing so. For MN we know it is financially driven. For Tattle/mums.chat, what are their motives? I don't know the answer to this. Although there is some advertising on the site they have always said this was to cover the basic running costs. It is pretty murky.

Luc1nda · 11/04/2020 09:02

Looks like Tattle have launched MumsChat.

Really? I thought that mums.chat looked like a one-man band.

MamaMeeAh · 11/04/2020 09:08

It is 100% set up by Tattle.
