I'm not sure yet but I'll probably pay for a month and then see what other features they bring in.

Thread by Justine incase you haven't seen it

YABU = No

YANBU = Yes, I might give it a try

I too have signed up, for the same reason that @Mummyoflittledragon has given.
Personally, I don't think there should be an edit button, because as has been said, it can give carte Blanche to abusive posters. I just want rid of the ads, and am prepared to pay for that because I'm able to.

Port1aCastis · 08/04/2020 14:43

I'm on the bones of my arse as im in tourism and no bookings = no money
Netflix wins!

mochojoes · 08/04/2020 14:43

I would do it for £1 a month. I also have Disney plus & it's ridiculous to cost the same.

LittlePaintBox · 08/04/2020 14:44

I'll consider trying it for a month, but if I'm going to pay I'll expect a more professional approach to moderation, eg no sudden bannings of people because there's been a dog pile of complaints about them. Like PPs, I think making us pay for an edit button is outrageous.

WatchingFromTheWings · 08/04/2020 14:44

No chance.

CherryBakebadly · 08/04/2020 14:45

I think the price is completely unrealistic and won’t be paying it.

sadpapercourtesan · 08/04/2020 14:45

I can't afford it, simple as that. Been here since 2003 and feel suprisingly shaken by this development Sad

drunkyhumptydumpty · 08/04/2020 14:45

@UnfinishedSymphon MN is not unique. There are many other mother/female led platforms very similar that have the same breadth and depth of experience.

AprilFloundering · 08/04/2020 14:45

It wasnt that long ago a mumsnet employee was posting peoples ip adresses on twitter...

Am I fuck giving them my bank details

Fuck me. Really?!? Please tell me someone was prosecuted for that.

Port1aCastis · 08/04/2020 14:45

I had a comment deleted the other day for calling myself a twat
That's hilarious Grin

PleaseStopCrying · 08/04/2020 14:46

There's no real reason why MN should be "free", it's a business as any other after all

It should be free considering we provide the content. Take away a large amount of users and the ad revenue plummets its good businesses to have more people using the site.

Devlesko · 08/04/2020 14:46

No, definitely not, I don't subscribe to anything and never have, unless of course it's free.
I can see why those with a high disposable income would though, so let them pay for us all.
Plus, I am on here too much anyway, and should be getting on with other stuff.

PaulGalico · 08/04/2020 14:46

I agree with SarahInAccounts in that I would need to be happier with moderation. I have been on MN quite a while now but have found the scaremongering on the coronavirus threads unpleasant- not something I would pay for. This might just convince me that it is a good time to leave - really dont like the idea of a two-tier system.

mochojoes · 08/04/2020 14:47

There's no real reason why MN should be "free", it's a business as any other after all.

It's not though it gets paid for adverts like Facebook, instagram etc

Hagbeth · 08/04/2020 14:47

Absolutely not.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 08/04/2020 14:47

If advertising revenue is dropping, how does a premium service that shows even fewer ads to the (arguably) "most loyal" members going to help?

drunkyhumptydumpty · 08/04/2020 14:47

Also would this now guarantee that content would not be taken and used by the media?
The Sun, Daily Mail etc?

PleaseStopCrying · 08/04/2020 14:48

Fuck me. Really?!? Please tell me someone was prosecuted for that.

As far as I remember it was all brushed neatly under the carpet. Although I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

mochojoes · 08/04/2020 14:48

@soontobe60 it's says fewer ads though not no adverts

MamaBearOnLockdown · 08/04/2020 14:48

t's not though it gets paid for adverts like Facebook, instagram etc
of course, but I meant free for the user/ members.

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 08/04/2020 14:48

Definitely not. I've used it a lot over the years and spend a lot of time on relationships threads by the general tone since coronavirus is just so aggressive. I've just signed up for Disney plus too and that's a lot better value for money.

Saucery · 08/04/2020 14:48

No. Mainly because I don’t trust them with my payment details. I don’t even trust them with my usual email address so I’m certainly not inputting anything on here with my financial info on it.

mochojoes · 08/04/2020 14:48

@MamaBearOnLockdown no reason to be free but reason to be very low cost

Moondust001 · 08/04/2020 14:48

Also half the people on here are batshit. I'd be mad to pay to talk to them

^ This ^

DivGirl · 08/04/2020 14:48

Absolutely not. For the same price I can have access to everything ever made by Disney and Pixar - it's absurd that this costs the same.

I'm sure Reddit has a parenting board, and their "give us money" model is far superior.
