I'm not sure yet but I'll probably pay for a month and then see what other features they bring in.

Is mums chat a copy? i'm
confused it looks identical

drunkyhumptydumpty · 10/04/2020 15:41

Looks identical. But has much much better features. Loads more.

And it's free.

mochojoes · 10/04/2020 15:44

that was quick!

Will pop over and have a look

Everyexitisanentrance · 10/04/2020 16:28

That’s the issue Mumsnet is a jack of all trades. It is easy to copy

alloutoffucks · 10/04/2020 16:30

It looks like it was put up today?

alloutoffucks · 10/04/2020 16:32

It is easy to copy, but the issue is attracting enough users. There are lots of smaller forums all round the net. Getting a high volume of users is much harder.

MamaMeeAh · 10/04/2020 16:33

It was put up today. It’s just a spin off from Tattle. I think it’s just an off the shelf forum. With better functionality than MN which is a little strange Confused. I can only think MN costs so much to run because of all the data monitoring for ad purposes behind the scenes. Someone linked to the privacy policy on another thread and I was gobsmacked by all the data they use.

OhCaptain · 10/04/2020 16:38

What are you all talking about? I don't see anything about a new forum Confused

JesmondDene · 10/04/2020 16:42

Nope - I won't be subscribing. I sometimes offer advice based on my professional expertise (education ).I don't mind doing that as a free service for all who need it.

Maybe if subscription takes off, I can charge MN for my expertise????

alloutoffucks · 10/04/2020 16:44

@OhCaptain someone mentioned it upthread mum.chat.

alloutoffucks · 10/04/2020 16:45

I don't know who set it up though.

Tattle set it up.

But who runs Tattle, that is the question...

alloutoffucks · 10/04/2020 16:47

I hadn't realised they were linked.

C8H10N4O2 · 10/04/2020 16:52

This site doesn't actually benefit me in such a way that is worth paying for

Then don't pay. I won't be either but the model of premium whilst the key capabilities remain free is not new or radical. I don't get the outrage at what is a common model although I'd sack the PR advisor who structured the announcements/approach in such a way.

The 100 people will not all be working on the website. If you run a business employing people they won't all be working on your primary product will they?

I'd hazard a guess that a chunk of those people are ring fenced to the redevelopment work and are amongst the more expensive staff whilst not showing any results yet.

damnitnotlistening · 10/04/2020 16:55

Not a chance!!!
No way
Never

ladyhummingbee · 10/04/2020 17:04

Well that must be the ultimate begging thread Grin.

If mn ends up being only paying members, do you think posters will get paid per post for keeping the site alive? Halo

Wheresthesanitygone · 10/04/2020 17:04

Looking at Tattle just now it’s basically bitching about anybody in the public eye? Or does it have a positive side that I missed?

wildcherries · 10/04/2020 17:07

The new forum has editing, quoting and more for free. It's a forum made from a template. That just says it all. I sad on the Site thread that I'm not paying, and I think the timing of the rollout is awful.

MamaMeeAh · 10/04/2020 17:12

Tattle was set up as a place to discuss influencers but some of the discussions have broadened out and gone 'off topic' so I am not surprised they are providing a new home for people who may be pissed off with this latest move and who want to discuss the same topics that MN hosts. I'm interested to see if it takes off, I think it may do as the functionality is so much better on that site.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 10/04/2020 17:23

I remember "Shit, Fuck, Bollocks" Grin

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 10/04/2020 17:27

You start a paid membership with comments like "Bring back xyz" and it'll be even more of a bloody cliquey nightmare than it used to be.

OhCaptain · 10/04/2020 17:29

Thanks for the link.

Is it a piss take though? If it’s legit why did they purposely copy MN?
