Cat hating neighbour

Igrewitmyself · 07/04/2020 10:20

My neighbour has told me he is setting a trap in his garden where he will catch any cats who deign to go into his garden in a net and then plunge them into a barrel of water where they will have to stay until he releases them
As if there isn't enough to worry about at the moment...... If I report him, will the RSPCA come out or will I have to wait until he actually hurts a cat before they can do something..

Well until he actually does it no crime has been committed surely?

He's a nasty bastard, but I think you would do well to escape-proof your garden so your cat is safe?

Duchessofblandings · 07/04/2020 10:30

In normal times, I’d call the police non-urgent number. Not now, obviously, but would probably still ring the RSPCA for advice.

Good grief, as if things aren’t bad enough without vicious bastards making life worse.

TrickyKid · 07/04/2020 10:30

TAAT?
Is your cat shitting in his garden 😂

Ylvamoon · 07/04/2020 10:30

Just keep your cat indoors- away from the neighbor!

SwerfandTurf · 07/04/2020 10:41

I’d tell him if he does that I’ll be marching into his property (fully prepared to smash his bloody windows in if necessary) to stop him. And I might shove him into a barrel of water.

Psychopath.

clareOclareO · 07/04/2020 10:43

Report him. You can't set "traps" for animals in this country.

LastTrainEast · 07/04/2020 10:43

Is it possible that he is just trying to make a point to a neighbour who won't take any responsibility? :)

I had a dog owner once tell me there was nothing they could do about their dog jumping up people. I told them I used a walking stick and that if if a dog jumped up me I'd insert it...well you get the idea...

SilverBangle · 07/04/2020 10:44

If you keep your cat in your own house/garden he won’t be caught and plunged into a barrel of water. It’s a no brainier really 🤔

TheAugusta · 07/04/2020 10:44

He sounds actually insane. No normal person would plan this, let alone tell other people about it. Perhaps call the RSPCA for advice on if you can refer it to someone?

Windyatthebeach · 07/04/2020 10:46

Our ndn said she would set poison down for our dcat.
Police came out same day.
What if a dc went into his garden?

Wannabangbang · 07/04/2020 10:46

I would set up a trap for him to fall into and drownGrin
Keep your cat indoors he sounds unhinged

Alb1 · 07/04/2020 10:49

I’d report to RSPCA for advice. Completly disagree with posters thinking you should keep your cat in to avoid someone violently attacking your pet, like he’s somehow in the right to do that Hmm

Griselda1 · 07/04/2020 10:51

Report it to the non emergency police number, animal cruelty is still an issue regardless of our current situation

slipperywhensparticus · 07/04/2020 11:06

Fucking psychopath there is a woman on facebook openly proclaiming she will put rat poison in the garden to kill the cats dumb bint has a dog and kids

I never liked cats as a child I would never hurt one even if they did shit in the garden you can get harmless deterrents fucking use them (and yes anyone on the litter tray will know I have three indoor cats now)

crosspelican · 07/04/2020 11:07

I would report it.

Your neighbour is planning to violently trap and torture animals and what he has said is not normal. So you are reporting it for several reasons -

Are nearby pets (yours?) in danger?
Is his mental health declining under the lockdown?
Are there people living with him who might be in danger as a result of his mental health?

There is plenty of peer-reviewed research linking animal abuse and domestic abuse.

I8toys · 07/04/2020 11:08

Staying in all day really brings the psychos out. You can cat proof without harming them. Is he going to catch all the other wildlife that shits in his garden and do the same?

theschoolonthehill · 07/04/2020 11:11

I know somebody who keeps a pile of stones to throw at her neighbour’s cat when the cat goes into her garden. The woman is obsessed with the neighbour’s cat (and her neighbour). Cruelty to animals tells you so much about someone. I’ve little doubt she would kill the cat if she thought there wouldn’t be consequences. She is a manipulative, awful woman.

Nottherealslimshady · 07/04/2020 11:11

I'd report it but also keep your cats safe indoors or escape proof your garden. It's your job to protect your pets. Also warn any neighbours with cats and put on any Facebook neighbourhood pages so others can do the same.
Cats aren't safe free roaming. There's loads of people out there that will hurt them.

Cat proof your garden. It shouldn't be difficult.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 07/04/2020 11:12

This. Life hasn't stopped entirely. People behaving like this still need dealing with.

theschoolonthehill · 07/04/2020 11:12

AETA she aims the stones for their legs so it will injure the cat and applauds if she hits it!

SarahInAccounts · 07/04/2020 11:16

Cat proof fencing or keep it inside.

recklessruby · 07/04/2020 11:18

How disgusting. I hope he accidentally traps himself in the net.
Cant abide animal cruelty. He sounds deranged.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 07/04/2020 11:20

It is virtually impossible to cat proof a garden. Have look to see if yiu can see a trap.
It is well known that a person who can be cruel to animals can also be cruel to children

SarahInAccounts · 07/04/2020 11:24

It is virtually impossible to cat proof a garden.

It really isn't. The previous owners of ours had cat proof fencing put all around. 8 years on - not a single cat in the garden.

My dad used to put Jeyes fluid where cats shat. They don't like the smell.
