I've just seen this in my FB page.
A local group has shared it.
'Clap for Boris' (see pic) Tonight 8pm.
Human to human, I wish him well & a full recovery but I won't be clapping... Hmm

Would it be unreasonable of me not to 'clap for Boris' tonight?

Do you really believe he's in hospital?

I think it's clear from this thread that I'm not a massive fan of BJ but really? Just no. Take off the tin foil hat.

ClapForCats · 07/04/2020 11:52

Next they'll want us to clap for kids

Already happening.

KitKatKit · 07/04/2020 11:53

@koshkatt Yes, I have. Next.

ilovecakeandwine · 07/04/2020 11:55

I hope he recovers and I don't wish him any harm but it'll be a cold day in hell when I clap any member of the Tory party especially him.
I'm done with all this clapping anyway .

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 11:55

So you will know that he was arguing against the oppressive nature of wearing it? And also that he was cleared by an independent panel of saying anything offensive?

MashedSpud · 07/04/2020 11:57

Nah, I’m watching Bake Off and not thinking about cv for an hour and fifteen minutes.

I wish Boris well but me clapping out the window isn’t going to help his recovery.

OptimisticSix · 07/04/2020 11:57

Hahaha @Lockheart that should be a t shirt...

I also will not be clapping. I also agree he has been negligent, I don't wish him harm but I have no feelings for him at all.

Fluffybutter · 07/04/2020 11:58

@GREATAUNT1 the only way that would be true is if he has already died and they’ve not told us .

Viviennemary · 07/04/2020 11:59

I'm not clapping for anybody. It is totally pointless.

namechanger2019 · 07/04/2020 11:59

He is no different to anyone else with coronavirus! I haven't been clapping for them and won't be for Boris either.

KitKatKit · 07/04/2020 12:00

@koshkatt Kindly refrain from whitesplaining this issue to me. His article and choice of wording was inflammatory and if you can't see that, you're part of the problem.

Back to the point of this thread. He is sick and I wish him a speedy recovery. I don't see the need to clap for him.

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 12:01

whitesplaining

Sorry, what? How did skin colour get in to this?

OptimisticSix · 07/04/2020 12:02

@Viviennemary exactly this.

Genevieva · 07/04/2020 12:03

The clap isn't his idea and I am not sure he would want it. I was happy to clap for the NHS the first week. Last week we made a last minute decision to join in because the kids were ready for bed but still awake, but I had anticipated not clapping because it is at bedtime. On Sunday we didn't do the kids clap because we were walking the dog. I am feeling a bit clapped out to be honest, so I will decide at the time.

I am very concerned that our PM is in such a bad way and I wish him well. After years of turmoil I feel that, without this virus, we would finally be back on an even keel. A government with a strong but not overwhelming majority (which is how the House of Commons functions best) and a new leader of the opposition who is from the centre-left and has a proven track record as a hardworking and intellectually able person (important for holding the government to account). Instead, we are all living in lockdown, government is being operated by video link and parliament is virtually closed. We need a healthy PM and a functioning parliament asap.

SwerfandTurf · 07/04/2020 12:04

Pointing out objective fact isn’t “spewing hatred” FFS.

The idea that you’re not allowed to criticise a politician’s actions just because he’s ill is incredibly disturbing. This isn’t North Korea.

BrooHaHa · 07/04/2020 12:06

Sorry, what? How did skin colour get in to this?

Indeed. Last time I checked, Islam had followers from a wide variety of races and ethnicities.

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 12:06

Agree.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/04/2020 12:07

I also wish Boris well, have on here and on twitter, but I won't be joining in this virtue signalling, attention seeking bullshit.

I'm with OldUnit on this - I wish the man a speedy recovery, but this is just self-indulgent shite.

Similarly, the clapping for the NHS is just becoming stale and meaningless. The first time it was a lovely gesture - since then it's been a "Look how supportive we are" load of bollox.

I do not wish him ill, but I won't be clapping.

BrooHaHa · 07/04/2020 12:07

If I lived within a few minutes walk of the hospital I'd clap.

Genevieva · 07/04/2020 12:07

Swerf, you are allowed to criticise, but there is a time and a place.

We once went to a wedding where the best man went into excruciatingly embarrassing detail about the groom's antics at university - complete with photos. In front of his parents and his grandparents. An example of not the time or place. And too much information for any of us quite frankly.

Astrabees · 07/04/2020 12:11

As he thought it was quite OK to shag around when his wife had cancer, I'm not sure sainthood is appropriate. of course I hope he gets better but he has rather brought this on himself by failing t regard the advice we were all given.

inwood · 07/04/2020 12:14

@GREATAUNT1 where the fuck do you think he is then??

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 07/04/2020 12:14

I don’t wish him any harm, as I wouldn’t any other human being, but I won’t be clapping for Boris, no.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 07/04/2020 12:16

'The idea that you’re not allowed to criticise a politician’s actions just because he’s ill is incredibly disturbing. This isn’t North Korea.'

'Just becaue he's ill' Confused He's in ICU did you miss that bit? Maybe some could show a teensy bit of sensitivity before sneering and mocking. 'He brought it on himself' being an utterly twatty comment.

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 12:18

Where exactly did swerf sneer or mock?
