I've just seen this in my FB page.
A local group has shared it.
'Clap for Boris' (see pic) Tonight 8pm.
Human to human, I wish him well & a full recovery but I won't be clapping... Hmm

Would it be unreasonable of me not to 'clap for Boris' tonight?

@Rhea1981 I feel for any victim of this awful virus and would never speak ill of someone when they're so ill regardless of their political views Quit your pearl clutching. Being unwell doesn't make you immune to beng called out on saying and doing terrible things. Why are some of the opinions voiced on this thread worse than some of the comments made by the PM?

GatoradeMeBitch · 07/04/2020 11:34

Please admin this man is seriously unwell and these people are going to be spewing their hatred. Its not right. I feel for any victim of this awful virus and would never speak ill of someone when they're so ill regardless of their political views.

I feel for the victims too. Especially those who were misled by those in charge and it cost them their lives.

Fluffybutter · 07/04/2020 11:34

I’m not clapping for anyone .
It’s not going to help or change anything is it ?

Glowcat · 07/04/2020 11:34

The Conservatives ended up with 56.2% of the MPs but took 43.6% of the votes. That’s first past the post for you. 56.4% of people didn’t vote for Boris.

Pembsgirl · 07/04/2020 11:34

Totally agree with longwayoff Boris has brought this on himself, standing there every night telling us all to keep 2 metres apart while being televised standing extremely close to his colleagues in the Commons, what did he expect, did he think he was so special that he wouldn't get it? Surely even before they started telling us to keep 2 metres apart, they should have marked out the Commons so that the so called leaders of our country, set the best example and kept themselves safe??

I don't wish him ill, but I sure as hell won't applaud his recklessness.

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 11:35

Decent working people whose jobs he may well have made more dangerous and harder by his decision to shake hands with diagnosed covid patients and present this as some kind of positive to the nation. It's astounding that the people who don't want his behaviour discussed can delude themselves they're occupying some kind of moral high ground on the issue.

Rhea1981 · 07/04/2020 11:37

I have to stop reading this site now. It actually makes me feel so upset reading nasty comments about someone who's so unwell in intensive care. I know people just won't stop so there's no point even trying and it will just upset me reading it. I'm not cut out for social media sometimes, I'll stick with the groups im on through Facebook wishing him and everyone else well.

KitKatKit · 07/04/2020 11:37

Can't stand the fellow but he's severely unwell so I wish him a speedy recovery as I would anybody else.
He called Muslim women in niqab's "letterboxes" and now we're all walking around looking like letterboxes to save ourselves from harm.

So no, I shan't be clapping for him.

Otherrooms · 07/04/2020 11:38

10 years of underfunding meant that the NHS was in no position to face a crisis. It is fair to say that has had an impact.

I agree. The NHS has been in crisis for a long time. Why? Because BJ and his friends neglected it.
I'm sure he's getting more resources thrown at him than most at the moment so even now, I doubt he will appreciate what he and his party has done.

Boris has brought this on himself

Don't be a dick.

TheFairyCaravan · 07/04/2020 11:39

People do have short memories don't they @TheFairyCaravan?.They forget it was the Labour government who started the cuts ,when I worked for the NHS under Labour it wasn't managed any better,I also remembered pubic out dry over the armed forces being badly equipped during the gulf war etc

With respect DH, who I've been married to for 26 years, has been in the military for 33 years. He's seen a lot. The Labour Govt weren't perfect but they were nothing compared to what the Tories have done to the armed forces.

I am a frequent flyer of the NHS. I used to wait 10-12 weeks for surgery under Labour, now it's 28+, same surgeon, same hospital and each time I'm listed the wait gets longer.

MouthBreathingRage · 07/04/2020 11:39

@GetOffYourHighHorse, not all media decrying how overwhelmed the NHS and its staff are come from newspapers. Plenty of workers are sharing their experiences through other mediums, but get shouted down by people like yourself who 'knows someone who says it's not that bad, so it must be only a minority who are finding it so'.

@Rhea1981, there's been no excessive nastiness here. Everyone hopes Johnson gets better, it's just many dont think he deserves applause for many a good reason.

HalloumiGus · 07/04/2020 11:41

All the most ardent clappers I know are the same people nipping out to the shops every day for a packet of jaffa cakes. I will help the NHS by practising social distancing thanks.

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 11:42

He called Muslim women in niqab's "letterboxes"

Ever read the actual article?

1forsorrow · 07/04/2020 11:42

No YANBU but it seems he has gained his halo by being Very sick. So I will be surprised if you are not told you are bu. I was thinking about this earlier. Normally on MN a man who has children by several women, who cheats on his wife, who denies paternity of his child would be torn to shreds but somehow Boris is exempt from all that. Not to mention other stuff like his racist comments, giving someone an address so they could get someone beaten up etc.

MarieQueenofScots · 07/04/2020 11:44

It’s perfectly possible to think someone is poor at their job and a fairly objectionable human being whilst still wishing them a speedy recovery.

There’s no need for the Boris fan club to arrive.

GREATAUNT1 · 07/04/2020 11:45

Do you really believe he's in hospital?

SylvanianFrenemies · 07/04/2020 11:45

He's not a fucking pixie, clapping won't make him better. This.

I hope everyone who has it gets better, including the PM. The first clap was fine. But that's enough for now. Speaking as a sainted NHS worker. There are other, meaningful things people can do to show support and appreciation.

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 11:46

People do have short memories don't they @TheFairyCaravan?.They forget it was the Labour government who started the cuts ,when I worked for the NHS under Labour it wasn't managed any better,I also remembered pubic out dry over the armed forces being badly equipped during the gulf war etc

It could be short memories, or it could be people who feel 10 years in power has been more than enough for the Tories to rectify the mistakes of the previous administration with respect to the NHS instead of compounding them.

Now if Blair and Brown fall ill and people want to bring up the real terms cuts to NHS funding they both presided over in the later years of Labour's last tenure, that will be legitimate. Meanwhile, it will still remain the case that the Tories and not Labour are responsible for the decisions the Tories have made from 2010 to 2020.

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 11:47

Do you really believe he's in hospital?

Holy fuck. Here they come. Hmm

AprilFloundering · 07/04/2020 11:47

When he talked so blithely about how 'sadly' many more were going to get sick, some very much so, and yes, some would die - he wasn't thinking he might be one of them. That was so clear from his demeanour.

It really was.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/04/2020 11:49

Every time I see reference to 'clap' I think of VDs as we used to call them in the old days.

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 11:50

Yes! 'The clap'! I had forgotten that.

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 11:51

Do you really believe he's in hospital?

Do you not?

He looked increasingly dog rough during last week's TV appearances, has been around people who've been diagnosed through his work and claims to have shaken hands with some of them. It's extremely plausible that he's one of those who has a serious enough case to require hospital admission.
