I've just seen this in my FB page.
A local group has shared it.
'Clap for Boris' (see pic) Tonight 8pm.
Human to human, I wish him well & a full recovery but I won't be clapping... Hmm

Would it be unreasonable of me not to 'clap for Boris' tonight?

No, like the majority of people on this thread, I wish the man a full recovery but I won't be clapping for him. He's a dreadful man, a hopeless politician and utterly unfit to be PM. Also I won't do any of this doorstep clapping; it's easy gestures, cheap sentimentality, bread and circuses. Something this country is very good at, unfortunately.

I also wonder what the cross over between those banging on loudest about clapping the kiddiewinks etc and those who've actually volunteered to be an NHS Responder or something else actually constructive is.......

Umnoway · 07/04/2020 12:19

Hes not a nice person. He's treated other human beings appallingly. Those facts don't change because he's ill. You can hope someone recovers and still not think well of them.

This in droves.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 07/04/2020 12:19

There’ll not be a body left without the clap by the time this has all finished.

JanMeyer · 07/04/2020 12:22

yanbu I really hope he recovers. but no way would I clap for someone who leads a government who that targets the disabled/sick and poor.

Agreed, but apparently not pretending to like him now he's sick makes one a horrible person. Funny how no-one makes this much fuss about the sick and disabled people who have died because of his policies. They were ignored before, they're being ignored now and no doubt will continue to be ignored after all this is over.

Kortnee · 07/04/2020 12:22

He's in ICU did you miss that bit? Maybe some could show a teensy bit of sensitivity before sneering and mocking

What about sensitivity for the people in ICU who had their benefits cut?
The current Govt, including the PM, enabled this! What about "Operation Last Gasp?" where was the sensitivity there? I notice you've ignored this whilst your on you highhorse?

MouthBreathingRage · 07/04/2020 12:23

He's inICUdid you miss that bit?

No one missed that bit. It's awful, but doesn't change the facts about him. As is the case if he sadly doesnt make it. The worry here is that Johnson is being martyred without cause to be, hence why the call to clap for him is more than unnecessary, it's in quite bad taste. Wishing him well, and finding good reason why he doesn't deserve a clap are two different matters.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 07/04/2020 12:23

'hope he gets better but he has rather brought this on himself by failing t regard the advice we were all given.'

Do you not understand that folllowing advice reduces risk but is no magical guarantee that you won't get it? A bit like, say, losing weight reduces your risk of cancer, but it doesn't mean you won't get it.

What advice didnt he follow? The press conferences went remote when lockdown started, yes he shook hands in the early stages but said clearly be washed his hands after. What didn't he do?

It isn't as if he was like that bliithering idiot Scottish CMO going off on jaunts whilst telling everyone to stay at home.

Alialialiali · 07/04/2020 12:25

Can we do a slow clap? lol no. I'm not being serious.

ItsAllTheDramaMickIJustLoveIt · 07/04/2020 12:27

I won’t be clapping for him and I highly doubt my partner will be either. I hope he gets better soon and I hope that when he does he fully appreciates the NHS and everyone who works within it.

Alialialiali · 07/04/2020 12:27

@Hopeisnotastrategy
There’ll not be a body left without the clap by the time this has all finished.

You've just described Essex.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 07/04/2020 12:29

'The worry here is that Johnson is being martyred without cause to be, hence why the call to clap for him is more than unnecessary, '

Yes I agree. There's no need for any doorstep clapping. It is indeed 'unnecessary'. Using it as an excuse to just stick the boot is while he is in ICU is shit though.

#BeKind remember?!

goodthanks · 07/04/2020 12:33

I will be clapping loudly, tooting a big horn and banging pots and pans together. Then I shall hang a large banner declaring my affiliation with the Tory party. Then my neighbours shall put my windows in.

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 07/04/2020 12:38

I won't be clapping for boris, leader of the party that has stripped the nhs to the bare bones. I wish him well, of course.

riotlady · 07/04/2020 12:38

Yanbu. I don’t actively wish him harm but he’s a shitty person and that hasn’t changed just because he’s ill.

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 12:40

I don’t actively wish him harm but he’s a shitty person and that hasn’t changed just because he’s ill

Did you need to post that? Really? Feel good now? FFS. Hmm

NotACleverName · 07/04/2020 12:42

The fact that anything that's not fawning sycophancy is being written off as "sneering and mocking." Johnson being in ICU doesn't change the fact that he's not been the best of PMs.

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 12:42

When there are people out there who wish to politicise the issue by loudly, obnoxiously and forcefully berating anyone who dares to mention the political actions of this political leader and the potential harm they've caused, yes it did need to be said.

Actionhasmagic · 07/04/2020 12:43

I wish him a speedy recovery but I will not be clapping. I did not vote Tory

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 12:43

We must agree to differ.

MarieQueenofScots · 07/04/2020 12:45

Him being ill doesn’t erase his precious actions.

What a dangerous mindset that is.

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 12:47

You agree whatever you want koshkatt, leave me out of it.

I'm starting to think we should have a specific safe space thread for people who believe they're entitled not to read anything suggesting that the sun might not shine out of Johnson. The rest of us can agree to stay out of that and let them do what they need to do, and they can refrain from pious whining elsewhere.

SwerfandTurf · 07/04/2020 12:47

And plenty of people are dead because of his policies, GetOffYourHighHorse. People are actively dying right now because up until literally yesterday he was the person coming up with and implementing our nation’s response to this crisis.

Nowhere have I “mocked” or “sneered” and I certainly haven’t accused him of bringing it on himself. If anyone is “mocking and sneering” it is those exploiting Johnson’s condition as an excuse to give liberals a good kicking by shoehorning in how all the left wingers they know IRL are “aggressive” and “hurl insults” (something that is entirely irrelevant to this thread and deeply hypocritical).

MrsFogi · 07/04/2020 12:52

Nope I won't be doing this - it is virtue signalling. Lots of people are ill whether with Covid 19 or other illnesses - I wish them all well but don't think clapping will help any of them. Equally I feel that the clapping for the NHS is now turing into virtue signalling (or, worse, an obligation).

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 12:53

I shall leave the thread to you then. Enjoy yourself.

MouthBreathingRage · 07/04/2020 12:53

#BeKind remember?!

I never bought into that shite. I tend to save kindness for those who would do the same. When people say 'I categorically wouldn't clap for Johnson', they shouldn't be censored as to why not. It's more than 'well this clapping has got out of hand anyway'.

I'd not hold my thoughts back if it was Nigel Farage or Katie Hopkins with the virus either - I'd not wish it on them, and would genuinely hope they recover swiftly if they did. I'd still think they were awful people though, could you imagine people trying to rally a clap for them?
