I've just seen this in my FB page.
A local group has shared it.
'Clap for Boris' (see pic) Tonight 8pm.
Human to human, I wish him well & a full recovery but I won't be clapping... Hmm

Would it be unreasonable of me not to 'clap for Boris' tonight?

@ACertainSupermarket... well said. I’m furious with this “shitshow” of a Tory Govt. Worst thing that EVER happened to the UK.

ACertainSupermarket · 07/04/2020 14:43

@TheLadyAnneNeville That explains it. The Toad.

PrivateEye · 07/04/2020 14:48

I'm not so sure. As deaths rise to around 1,000 a day, and Johnson is getting tip-top care, it could turn. He has be careful not just of his health but of not seeming too special.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 07/04/2020 14:50

@ACertainSupermarket... I was a nurse for nearly three decades. I have watched the demise of the NHS over the years and have experienced first had the absolute mess it’s in now, thanks to Jeremy Hunt et al. I lost my mum to pneumonia just before Christmas and I can honestly say, if her (and our) experience was good compared to the crisis we are in now, we p, as a country have been well and truly shafted by ten years of Tory Austerity.

I say again, I hope Mr Johnson recovers but they will need to face the music. He won’t be a hero for me, “they” brought our NHS to its fucking long before COVID.

Timefor45 · 07/04/2020 14:50

Is this a joke?

TheLadyAnneNeville · 07/04/2020 14:51

Apologies to all for the language but today, I’m not sure why, I’m absolutely furious with how our Govt. led us to this.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 07/04/2020 14:53

They brought our NHS to its fucking knees LONG before Covid

Hopeisnotastrategy · 07/04/2020 14:54

@Alialialiali

🤣🤣🤣

mynameiswah · 07/04/2020 14:55

Wha-at... clap for Boris?!! Why the F..??! You can't fix stupid.

MrsKypp · 07/04/2020 14:57

Too much clapping devalues it.

I will not be clapping for the person who brought about the disaster that is Brexit, and then while the virus started rampaging around Europe spent almost 2 weeks off the radar.

I wish him well, I wouldn't wish Covid-19 on anyone.

Lynda07 · 07/04/2020 15:00

It's up to you whether or not you clap for anyone.

So far I haven't clapped, didn't know about it or forgot. So what?

I wish Boris well, hope he recovers.

MangosteenSoda · 07/04/2020 15:02

I haven't clapped for any cause, it doesn't mean I don't support the nhs. It's because I'm not a sheep.

Sheep can't clap AFAIK.

I genuinely feel all clapped out, in every sense of the phrase. I wish Boris well and hope he and all of the other patients recover. Like him or not (in my case not), he is our PM and the government we have is the government who have to deal with this crisis. So I sincerely hope that he recovers and does a good job of leading the country through this time.

However, I am really surprised that so many people think the UK government has responded well to the virus. The Nightingale hospitals, the economic stimulus package - these things would not have needed to take place (at least not to the extent they have) if the government had started seriously preparing back in Jan in the same way that South Korea, Germany and Taiwan did.

What the UK has done would have been a good response to an UNEXPECTED emergency. It's a criminally negligent response to something they had a good two months to prepare for. Added to all the years of under funding the NHS. So many more lives will be lost than should have been.

Womenwotlunch · 07/04/2020 15:02

It’s a ridiculous idea imho.

lynsey91 · 07/04/2020 15:05

No I won't be clapping for him. I hope he recovers and he certainly will be getting the best treatment going in hospital won't he?

I do clap for the NHS mainly because loads of my neighbours are nurses and/or doctors. Almost everyone does where I live and although it changes nothing I think so many people showing appreciation for our hard working and underpaid NHS staff is a nice gesture and I know my neighbours all appreciate it

AnnUumellemahaye · 07/04/2020 15:07

I can't imagine anyone who doesn't vote Tory and didn't vote Leave will be clapping for Boris, so no, not unreasonable at all. Do what you like.

However, I imagine (as much as I am getting cynical about too much band wagon clapping for all and sundry) that this will be a HUGELY well supported round of applause. Don't underestimate just how popular he is among those who did vote for him and how much people are really rooting for him.

SunflowerOrchid · 07/04/2020 15:07

Clap or don't clap for whoever you like. I won't be clapping. I did the original clap for NHS but won't be doing anymore.

CrowleysBentley · 07/04/2020 15:14

Nope. If I made a list of those who I think are undeserving of applause, Bloody stupid Johnson would be near the top of it. I hope he recovers, in the same way that I hope anyone who gets this nasty virus recovers, but bugger clapping the twat.

Cherryberrypie · 07/04/2020 15:15

I am so depressed reading this thread. Some Really horrible comments. If you don’t want to clap then don’t but you don’t need to be so bloody nasty.

Nicolastuffedone · 07/04/2020 15:16

Clap or don’t clap...does anybody really care? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 07/04/2020 15:16

I won't be. I don't wish him ill but I don't see that he's any different to anyone else battling this disease, other than he will get the best care and the best of everything on offer.

Cherryberrypie · 07/04/2020 15:19

And as for anyone saying Boris will get better treatment than anybody else, that I think is a huge insult to our nursing staff who I am sure give their very best to every patient that crosses their doors.

goldpartyhat · 07/04/2020 15:20

I'm not clapping. I wish him a speedy recovery but a bit fed up being led by the nose in social media

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 07/04/2020 15:25

I live in a Labour constituency. No one will be clapping here😊

redcarbluecar · 07/04/2020 15:31

No, YANBU, and I certainly won’t be clapping for him. There was no suggestion that we should go out and clap him before he got sick, and getting ill isn’t an achievement.
Anyone who supports Boris or feels sorry for him is perfectly able to send a personal message or tweet- it doesn’t need any mass emotional grandstanding.
We’ll be asked to clap something every night at this rate.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 07/04/2020 15:34

And as for anyone saying Boris will get better treatment than anybody else, that I think is a huge insult to our nursing staff who I am sure give their very best to every patient that crosses their doors.

I'm sure the drs and nurses looking after him will give him the same standard of care. But, do other patients get admitted to hospital this early in the disease, as a precaution? Do other patients get moved to ITU, just in case? Do you think he'll be subject to a frailty score and conversation around whether his life is worth attempting to save? Do you think a ventilator will be on standby for him, rather than him being in a queue for one? Do you think ECMO will be made available for him when it won't be for other patients who need it?

So, yeah, he won't be getting the same care as other patients.
