I've just seen this in my FB page.
A local group has shared it.
'Clap for Boris' (see pic) Tonight 8pm.
Human to human, I wish him well & a full recovery but I won't be clapping... Hmm

Would it be unreasonable of me not to 'clap for Boris' tonight?

clapping won't be required. Good, I can't imagine why clapping would be required, surely it is something people do if they want to not required to.

caringcarer · 07/04/2020 13:34

I won't be vlapping for Botis or NHS as I don't live near to a hospital. I fo think Boris has led the UK very well through this Pandemic though. I can recall in 2008 Labour bailed out banks but no help at all for ordinsry people. Many people had their house repossessed. I stopped voting Labour because of this. Over this crisis this Conservative government has supported ordinary people by paying 80% of wages for employees and most self employed. They have also got banks to give mortgage holidays and business loans by guaranteeing them. Legislation is alsomin place so no rentets can be evicted for 3 months if they fall behind with their rent. That is far more than Labour did in 2008. Who would have thought it or could have predicted that?My son who never votes has said he will vote for Boris next time because he put human life before UK economy. Voting in elections, not clapping is what makes a difference.

BighairBabybiceps · 07/04/2020 13:35

Ban clapping.

Devlesko · 07/04/2020 13:41

I won't be clapping either, can't stand the man and like absolutely nothing about him at all.
I don't want him to die, but that's as far as I go.

1066vegan · 07/04/2020 13:43

I wouldn't wish this illness on anyone. I hope he recovers for his own sake and for that of his family and loved ones. It's what I hope for everyone suffering from this virus.

I also worry that if he does die, he will be treated as a martyr and won't be held accountable for his blasé attitude and for the stupid, short sighted, ideologically driven callous decisions that he has made.

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 13:45

I think that's exactly what would happen 1066.

Incontinencesucks · 07/04/2020 13:52

I won't be clapping. I clapped the nhs, I'd clap all our essential workers but all this other clapping dilutes it. I hope he recovers, his pregnant girlfriend is ok.

I didn't vote for him, don't like his party, but i don't believe this is a time for politics, that comes after imo. Those who can argue it now are imo very lucky and privileged if thats there only concern. Looking at you df, who keeps banging on about evil tories for fb likes. There's a reason 4 people have defriended you and you aren't getting any likes and it's not because your fb friends voted tory...it's because you are using the situation for your own attention whoring.

The one thing i hope this does is shock the dickheads who are badly flouting rules (having parties etc) that it can hit anyone regardless of money, regardless of 'important friends', regardless of good health...though if the poor little 5 year old victim didn't do that then i doubt that hope.

Incontinencesucks · 07/04/2020 13:53

Don't be silly CalleighDoodle, what about poor old Prime and NowTv? Grin

ladyflower23 · 07/04/2020 13:54

No. I hope he gets better but the clapping is getting too much and diminishing the genuine feeling behind the first clapping for the keyworkers

MollyButton · 07/04/2020 14:02

If clapping at 8pm tonight would cure Boris (or anyone else you can name) of Covid - then maybe you would be unreasonable no to clap. (Heck I'd do it.)
As it will actually make absolutely no difference to him - then I wouldn't.

Clapping for the NHS is part a thank you and part a protest on how under equipped and under resourced they are and have been for years. But even then its not compulsory.

Runnerduck34 · 07/04/2020 14:05

I imagine Boris will be very moved by it. Its a sign of support.
I wish him well and hope he gets better as I do anyone who is ill with it at the moment.
He will be guaranteed the absolute best treatment.
Clapping is also a sign of virtue signaling and the media love it, its a good news story.

blueglassandfreesias · 07/04/2020 14:07

Yadnbu
I won’t be clapping either.

sixthtimelucky · 07/04/2020 14:16

Like most others, I wish Boris nothing but well wishes and hope to God he's ok.

The reason whey I'm not clapping is not because I didn't vote for him (I didn't,) but because this clapping shite is meaningless and sentimental and makes people think they are morally superior than those who don't.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/04/2020 14:21

doorstep clapping; it's easy gestures, cheap sentimentality, bread and circuses.

Well put, Alconleigh

Sammymommy · 07/04/2020 14:26

I wish those "I won't clap for" will stop. No one cares. Just don't clap...

TheLadyAnneNeville · 07/04/2020 14:27

I wish him a full, or near as damn it, recovery.

I will never forgive what his party did to the NHS, Social Care provision, mental health services and generally... the country.

I will not be clapping.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 07/04/2020 14:28

@Sammymommy... umm, that’s what this particular thread is all about, love.

Taddda · 07/04/2020 14:28

No

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 14:33

Nobody cares, even though you were sufficiently bothered to respond.

Srslydontgiveacrap · 07/04/2020 14:38

pmsl
Let's just stand outside clapping all fucking day like fucking demented seals.

Bluesheep8 · 07/04/2020 14:38

Clap trap! I haven't clapped for anyone or anything. I can't see how it possibly helps.

ACertainSupermarket · 07/04/2020 14:38

I want to know who started this clapping thing. Do you think it actually could have been the government itself?
I had no issue with the NHS one, it was quite heartwarming. Although possibly a diversion from the fact they they have been chronically understaffed and were screaming for PPE.
I am a keyworker myself, but I wasn't bothered about the 2nd one.
And now one for Boris?? I wouldn't wish anyone to have this, but with a friend who is a careworker and had no PPE now on a ventilator. I won't be clapping for Boris.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 07/04/2020 14:41

@ACertainSupermarket... wasn’t it f***g “run a mile from responsibility “ Michael Gove?

PrivateEye · 07/04/2020 14:42

I agree, clapping just doesn't help. PPE helps. Oxygen helps. Clapping is silly.

ACertainSupermarket · 07/04/2020 14:42

@poster1066vegan
Spot on. He can't lose. Die and become a martyr, live and become a hero. Either way the government has a handy excuse for a no-deal Brexit.
