I've just seen this in my FB page.
A local group has shared it.
'Clap for Boris' (see pic) Tonight 8pm.
Human to human, I wish him well & a full recovery but I won't be clapping... Hmm

Would it be unreasonable of me not to 'clap for Boris' tonight?

What advice didnt he follow?

Didn't he go round boasting about shaking hands with people who had the virus? In the early days of the UK outbreak he didn't seem to take it seriously at all.

NotACleverName · 07/04/2020 12:55

About time, @koshkatt. Your thread policing was exceptionally tedious. If you want an echo chamber a thread to talk about how great you think Johnson is then you should probably start your own.

shinyredbus · 07/04/2020 12:56

So don’t then - no idea why you need to ask for back up for you not to clap - free county and all that.

owlwhowho · 07/04/2020 12:57

Honestly I think people just want to feel like they're doing something. Clinging on to every tiniest bit of hope, participating in token acts, organising movements e.g. clapping for x. These are all not uncommon behaviours amongst people who feel helpless and/or feel like they have nothing of importance to bring to the table.

SwerfandTurf · 07/04/2020 12:57

Funny how the same people insisting that ‘Clap for the NHS’ is Orwellian virtue signalling better suited to North Korea are losing their shit at anyone refusing to clap for Boris.

Wheresthebeach · 07/04/2020 12:59

Nope. Not clapping. The Tories have underfunded the NHS for a decade, my only hope is that after this they fund it properly and our number of ICU beds increases to the level elsewhere. We are predicted more deaths because of the lack of ICU beds and I won’t be clapping for those responsible for this. Of course, like everyone else, I hope he recovers.

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 13:00

NotACleverName - my last post on this.

I have not tried to police the thread and neither do In think that Boris is particularly great. Neither would I clap for anyone, NHS included, as I am not big on virtue signalling.

All I have pointed out here and there is that attacking someone personally when they are desperately ill is in poor taste and perhaps says more about the poster than the person they are posting about.

mbosnz · 07/04/2020 13:00

Then there's the PPE fiasco, the ventilators farce. . .

Curious78 · 07/04/2020 13:01

Starting to see the despicable true colours of some posters on here Smile

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 13:04

You have absolutely tried to police the thread koshkatt. Thread policing is an exact description of your comment 'Did you need to post that? Really? Feel good now? FFS.' It is precisely what you were doing.

DdraigGoch · 07/04/2020 13:05

I haven't been partaking in any of these synchronised claps. I didn't start a thread about it.

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 07/04/2020 13:05

It's honestly absolutely ridiculous.

I very much dislike Boris and believe that the way he has handled the coronavirus situation has been a bit questionable at times. But, I wish him a speedy recovery and wish his family well. Nobody deserves to be in ICU.

That said, I will not be clapping for him. His "herd immunity" theory and shaking patients' hands has bitten him on the arse.

mbosnz · 07/04/2020 13:10

I have never bought into the mindset that because there is a serious situation, or a person is seriously ill (or dead) that the situation or the person and their actions are therefore beyond critique.

To me, that mindset is fraught with peril, particularly when the person is in a position of extreme influence and power, where their choices, decisions and actions or inactions literally may be the difference between life and death for too many.

I very much hope him a speedy recovery. Dominic Raab is not a particularly confidence inspiring alternative! And I assume he is loved by his children and current partner, who is pregnant and they must all be so worried.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 07/04/2020 13:10

Anyway, he is only on oxygen not requiring ventilating or cpap (which will disappoint some on here) so fingers crossed he'll be back on a ward soon and clapping won't be required.

lovelyupnorth · 07/04/2020 13:12

Don’t want him to die but beyond that he’s not getting any sympathy from me. All through this he’s lied and ignored his own experts advice.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 07/04/2020 13:13

I hope Boris pulls through because he's the leader, like it or not, better than the deputy, I think.

It would be miraculous but really worthwhile, if his stint in the hands of the NHS on a personal level, would make him rethink what's actually fiscally important to this country and uses that magnificent brain of his for fixing this country.

Bezalelle · 07/04/2020 13:13

We are rapidly turning into a nation of moronic clapping seals.

Kljnmw3459 · 07/04/2020 13:16

I agree with several pp's here. I wish him a speedy recovery but will not be clapping.

stophuggingme · 07/04/2020 13:17

Preface this by saying I hope he makes a complete recovery but no I will not ever applaud anything about this man.
Furthermore this clapping thing is just becoming meaningless, especially if we one minute clap for the NHS then organise a mass applause for a man who is now at the helm of the Party that have wilfully pushed it to the edge of a cliff for profit and their chums’ trust fund balances.

Rent a clap.
Cringe.

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 13:18

Anyway, he is only on oxygen not requiring ventilating or cpap (which will disappoint some on here) so fingers crossed he'll be back on a ward soon and clapping won't be required.

I dunno, there are enough people wanting to use this situation for right wing political pointscoring and virtue signalling that they'll probably be reluctant to give the opportunity up.

RarePackOfLooRoll · 07/04/2020 13:18

Fucking he'll. Is there anyone were not supposed to be clapping these days?
When the hell am.i supposed to find time to get my money's worth out of Netflix.
FB wants me up clapping for someone every fucking night!

CalleighDoodle · 07/04/2020 13:20

He's not a fucking pixie, clapping won't make him better.

GrinGrinGrin

And now people are donating money to help the nhs. How about just dont vote tory?

RarePackOfLooRoll · 07/04/2020 13:20
