You can totally dislike him and his politics but still not want him to die. Politics shouldn’t be the only thing to define you and your attitude to others.

I hope he recovers. It will be good for all of us if he does.

AndromedaPerseus · 06/04/2020 21:41

Speakout antibiotics would be given if BJ has developed bacterial pneumonia secondary to the Covid 19 infection

Wrinklesareenhancing · 06/04/2020 21:41

Not sure how anyone would get a will made or check pensions atm- everywhere is closed

Not true the whole of financial services is working from home. I started a pension review with a client today. My contact who writes wills is working too.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 06/04/2020 21:42

Someone posted the stats on another thread but the 50:50 survival rate is very patient specific. So if they didn’t need mechanical ventilation in the first 24 hours then they had a much higher survival rate over 80% from memory. On the other hand if the were sicker and had comorbidities it was at the lower end of the scale.

ColourMyDreams · 06/04/2020 21:42

He's conscious and talking.
He'll be fine.
Probably being treated better than the other poor people who've succumbed to it.

Branster · 06/04/2020 21:46

When the virus moved to Italy they established that this was a different strand from the one in China so 2 different strands one slower to spread one faster but cannot find the source of news anymore, it was ages ago my internet history is a million miles long.
However, in Iceland they found 40 strands according to this which has been replicated by other media sources grapevine.is/news/2020/03/24/patient-infected-with-two-strains-of-covid-19-in-iceland/?steady_tried_to_set_safari_fix_cookie=true

This newer piece of news does mention different strands by region but doesn’t put a number on it edition.cnn.com/2020/04/01/europe/iceland-testing-coronavirus-intl/index.html

Bathroom12345 · 06/04/2020 21:46

Colour. Are you saying the medical staff will give better care to him? Really??

Zilla1 · 06/04/2020 21:47

it's getting, I could be wrong but:

  1. I'm not sure it's 'flu mutating, rather I thought it was an estimate of which strains of (existing in the background) 'flu are likely to propagate.

  2. Are you aware of any human corona virus having a successful vaccine being created? I expect there will be (ww2 manhattan project levels of) significant resource devoted to this, I suppose there could be fundamental biological difficulties in creating a COVID virus that might be difficult to overcome).

Mummy0ftwo12 · 06/04/2020 21:48

Wise words again from @Xenia (who once gave me some excellent advice on the legal board here which meant i could afford my own home when i became a single parent)

Chillicheese123 · 06/04/2020 21:49

There is a lady local to us who has been making videos from her phone whilst in icu, she wasn’t ventilated but has nose oxyggen and oxygen masks. She is home now after about 5 days so it’s not always that you’re unconscious and ventilated in ICU. Hopefully that’s the case for Boris too.

SlightyJaded · 06/04/2020 21:49

I understand that 2/3 of patients admitted to ICU will need ventilation (usually within 24 hours)

Of those ventilated, around 60% will die.

So better than 50/50

He has 'relative' youth on his side although I am sure he has diet and stress against him, these are not underlying health conditions.

Everything crossed. It has made me feel more anxious than any other development and he has, I believe, been doing his best to be positive and encouraging in his daily address. I hope he recovers well and soon.

WaktiWapnasi · 06/04/2020 21:49

He's conscious and talking.
He'll be fine.

Unfortunately there are many accounts of people being conscious and talking who then deteriorate suddenly. He is in a very serious condition and it is the luck of the Gods that will dictate whether he pulls through. I dont think there is "better" treatment than what everyone is receiving in ICU - either your immune system gets a handle on it or it doesn't.

His poor family must be beside themselves.

londonrach · 06/04/2020 21:50

Hope he gets better soon but odds arent good for him being male, middle aged, smoker etc. @ColourMyDreams he will not be treated any better or worse by medical staff as their professionals who do everything they possibly can for each and every patient. Thats why they are working for the nhs. (Nhs worker here)

incognitomum · 06/04/2020 21:52

Can someone explain how Boris is now in ICU but the Prince recovered so fast even though he is much older

Homeopathy? Naturopathic treatments?

PerkingFaintly · 06/04/2020 21:52

Chillicheese123, that's encouraging to hear.

vanillandhoney · 06/04/2020 21:53

He's conscious and talking. He'll be fine.

Not necessarily. And let's be frank, the stats are against him - he's male, over fifty, smokes, is overweight and has pre-existing health conditions.

He was high risk from day one.

Branster · 06/04/2020 21:53

I would join in to say that yes a lot of financial services and solicitors are working from home. In fact they are busier than usual. So a lot of email communication and phone calls if you can get a slot to talk to them.

I actually like Boris, am feeling ambivalent about a few of his declarations but on the whole don’t have an issue with the man at all.
Even if I didn’t like him I’d still truly, truly hope he gets better. We really cannot afford to have instability at the top right now.

Nearlyalmost50 · 06/04/2020 21:53

Very disturbing situation.

Just to say though- pension services are running, perhaps with reduced capacity, but I spoke with a leading pensions provider today (they may be working from home, who knows?) and all the account info is online as well. So don't be put off, if you have some time at home unexpectedly (this doesn't apply if you have toddlers/working like crazy) then it's a good idea to get this sorted. Will, pension, life insurance. The latter especially, now that it's not compulsory with mortgages.

APatchyTomCat · 06/04/2020 21:53

I can't abide his politics, and think he's said some reprehensible things in the past. Which is why I'm quite surprised at how upset and worried I feel for him tonight. He looked pitiful on Thursday night, clearly very ill. His poor family Sad

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 06/04/2020 21:54

Can someone explain how Boris is now in ICU but the Prince recovered so fast even though he is much older

Hits everyone differently?
Luck?
I really hope he feels better soon, awful news.

Coquohvan · 06/04/2020 21:54

@ColourMyDreams
Are you a medical expert? Or a random on here just spouting off rubbish?

LexMitior · 06/04/2020 21:54

Yes I think reading the press release then intubation is contemplated; saying he remains conscious at this time is hardly something you would bother to say was there not the prospect it could change imminently.

Dontevenstart · 06/04/2020 21:55

I hope,

Can someone explain how Boris is now in ICU but the Prince recovered so fast even though he is much older

Stress levels poles apart springs to mind

The80sweregreat · 06/04/2020 21:56

I'm shocked at how upset I am about everything lately. I know I need to get a grip but it feels like life will never be the same again. It's surreal.
