Shit * fail!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 05/04/2020 18:30

I'm actually in support of lockdown no - no visits to the shops at all so that posters like the OP can't get their jollies.

Pathetic, OP.

Dylaninthemovies1 · 05/04/2020 18:30

If you ask DS4 they are. He expects cucumber and raw carrot on a daily basis

insancerre · 05/04/2020 18:30

Of course it’s essential
It’s the garnish for gin

SpokeTooSoon · 05/04/2020 18:32

OMG people have lost their tiny minds!!!!

This crisis has really brought out the curtain twitchers on Mumsnet. Why does anyone care what others are buying in shops? If you’re staying at home, good for you, you won’t catch the plague. Beyond that, mind your own bees wax.

ThatFriendsReunion · 05/04/2020 18:32

Luckily she doesn’t have to, as it is permitted to go shopping more often than once a fortnight.

and this is these stupid reasonings that will bring a proper lockdown.
Minimise shopping and only go for essential as seldom as you possibly can. Somehow gets translated as it's permitted to pop to the shops as often as I feel like it.

If nothing else, this situation has proven the stupidity of this country.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 05/04/2020 18:32

Its essential

My tortoise loves them as a treat

And if we aren’t able to get exercise (so i can find weeds) that’s probably the only thing he’ll actually enjoy

ktp100 · 05/04/2020 18:33

I think she's trying to say that if the woman ONLY brought 2 cucumbers she was being unreasonable, not that cucumbers aren't essential.

Of course we should be all buying fruits, veggies & salad, I think she meant that the rules are to only shop once a week and it's highly doubtful the woman only needed 2 cucumbers that week!

RainWoman19 · 05/04/2020 18:34

Essential in my household, my autistic daughter has cucumber with every meal, so mind your own!

SpratsOnParade · 05/04/2020 18:34

I went to Home Bargains earlier in the week. I needed to get night sanitary towels, some medication that I take regularly, Buscopan, anti-histamines, paracetamol etc, and rice and dog treats. They had none of those except the dog treats so I left with dog treats and a packet of Rolos. That's not all I went in for but that's all anyone nosy enough would have seen me buying.

Tfoot75 · 05/04/2020 18:35

If she's in the Midlands she's probably having a party tonight and is missing the critical ingredient in a Midlands buffet - cucumber and onion in malt vinegar Confused - in which case its totally essential.

Joke by the way - calm yourself down. All you can do is follow the rules as you take them and other people will or won't do the same.

ThatFriendsReunion · 05/04/2020 18:35

t's about non-essential TRIPS. Not non-essential purchases. Nowhere is food items even mentioned. Where the heck did this come from???

it comes from idiots who like to argue and twist the argument. Instead of commenting on the fact that someone does unnecessary TRIPS, they focus on cucumber - or easter egg - or milk.

Which is of course not what the argument is about, but they are trying to justify their own stupid behaviour. Unless they get a decent fine for it, it's "allowed". It's pathetic.

LakieLady · 05/04/2020 18:35

It’s Piimms weather grin

Also very nice in G&T, with a little black pepper.

UnholyStramash · 05/04/2020 18:35

They are for sale, therefore somebody needs to buy them. There’s enough food waste as it is. I know OP said that’s all she had bought. That’s not great as the more outings the more exposed we are. I dunno.

RoseLalique · 05/04/2020 18:36

Get a life op 🙄

HoffiCoffi13 · 05/04/2020 18:36

Bollocks. I haven’t been to the supermarket in nearly a month (we were self isolating before lockdown). DH has been once, about 10 days ago. All I was saying is that she doesn’t need to make her 2 cucumbers last for 2 weeks, to whoever said that. She may have done a huge shop a week ago and popped in today to supplement with fresh fruit/veg and that was all she could find that she needed.
There is a middle ground between ‘nipping to the shop every time you fancy something’ and you must absolutely only shop every 2 weeks’. Most of us fall somewhere in the middle. Due to us having a fruit/veg delivery box (which we’ve been having for years) we are shopping less than most.

@RufustheLanglovingreindeer

bless you! that vision has cheered me right up! Halo Grin

YerAWizardHarry · 05/04/2020 18:39

I left the shop yesterday with a bottle of wine but I was there to top up my gas and electric meters and decided to treat myself as I was there anyway

Soph7777 · 05/04/2020 18:39

Who are you to decide? You don't know why she needed cucumbers.

Just stop, if she wants cucumbers so be it. People are taking this way too far.

TimeAintNothing · 05/04/2020 18:39

the rules are to only shop once a week

Nowhere in the rules does it say once a week for shopping, it says as infrequently as possible. This will vary from person to person depending on circumstances, what it is they need to buy and why.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 05/04/2020 18:40

If you buy enough food for a week - or 2, because apparently some people can't even carry a shop for 2 weeks hmm - you needed it. If you buy barely enough for a snack, you are a CF who deserves to be fined

Are you a bit dim? Your telling me you could go shopping on your own and buy enough food to feed an average family for 2 weeks (average 2 adults, 2 dc) and carry it all home? Who are you Mr fucking strong arm?

Use you tiny brain for a minute and think about people that don’t drive, get paid weekly, don’t live 2 minutes from a supermarket so it’s a fair old walk.

I couldn’t carry all my food for my family for 2 weeks. Luckily I can shop in large amounts as I drive and can afford to shop that way but life isn’t the same for everyone

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 05/04/2020 18:41

Absolutely

But if ive diligently done my big shop at asda and they dont have cucumbers Freddy is fucked! Smile

PinkOnWednesday · 05/04/2020 18:41

We brought purely alcohol the other day! yes it was essential for us to get though this

If you're buying one or two items, it's highly likely that you got the rest of your shopping elsewhere and that the couple of things in your basket are the ones that were out of stock in the store where you did your main shop.

And those of us who don't have the space to store 2-weeks or more's supply of food need to shop more often.

Sorry about that, but we didn't have time to get a new kitchen fitted before the lockdown started.
