Am I the only one who actually couldn’t give a shiny shit what she has to say at this time.

People are dying , everyone is affected so the last thing we need is a rich old woman sitting in her ivory castle asking us to stay calm.

It’s really wound me up, it’s constantly being mentioned on the news!

Now why don’t you go back to enjoying your own head of state, who has maybe 1% of ERII’s global clout, if he’s lucky

Lol, more delusion in your assessment of her clout. Grin Grin Grin

We’ve very happy with our respected, democratically elected and cost effective presidency. We’re very proud of some of the people we’ve elected (Mary Robinson in particular).

It’s a perfect arrangement for our modern, forward looking nation.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 05/04/2020 09:03

May I recommend The Windsors on C4 to anyone who hasn't seen it.

BurneyFanny · 05/04/2020 09:03

Funny no-one ever says "could be better, could be Obama".

chomalungma · 05/04/2020 09:05

You’d have a better chance of getting Jeremy Corbyn elected PM than taking down the monarchy

I agree that it would be very difficult for Corbyn to get elected PM.

For some reason.

jasjas1973 · 05/04/2020 09:05

Do you ever stop to wonder why none of your political wishes come true? No, probably not

Ever wondered why the UK is soooooo far behind our european neighbours in social provision: health, education, transport? No probably not.
In regard to this Pandemic, do you ever wonder why even poor italy, much berated in our right wing press, as a basket case economy, has 3x the number of ICU beds than the UK or Germany 5x ?

audreysview · 05/04/2020 09:05

Now why don’t you go back to enjoying your own head of state, who has maybe 1% of ERII’s global clout, if he’s lucky.

Any global clout the U.K. has is certainly not because of the royal family. Give me Ireland’s democratic system any day of the week.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 09:08

she and her generation could teach the numpties of this country a thing or two about resolve and resilience.

Oh yes. Think about how difficult lockdown must be in a massive estate like Windsor castle with an army of staff to look after you.

I’m sure families with small children, trapped in flats, terrified about paying the bills can learn so much from her experience.

Second part sums it up. Why deride people facing real hardship. Because they are not royal or close to it.

The superiority thing has had its day.

bellinisurge · 05/04/2020 09:09

I agree with Laurie and have linked to President Higgins' address. If we are going to go anyway, I'd want to go that way, not the France/USA way with an elected King.
Meanwhile, we are where we are.

audreysview · 05/04/2020 09:10

I have American family, pretty sure they aren't saying that.

I have too, pretty sure they are. In fact many Americans are baffled by the fact we have an unelected head. They think it’s bizarre.

rookiemere · 05/04/2020 09:11

Mockers I love The Windsors, the mad thing is that PC in particular has even out spoofed Harry Enfield. Flying up to Scotland when already displaying symptoms and entire country on lockdown, using valuable NHS resources to get a test when medical staff can't, heart warming pictures of him in quarantine with red squirrels and then virtually cutting the ribbon on a new hospital aka hastily repurposed exhibition centre.

Honestly even a satirist couldn't make it up.

derxa · 05/04/2020 09:11

I watched a documentary about the old Queen Mother last night. It showed her visiting bomb sites during WW2. She did a lot to boost morale in the country hence the love for her in previous generations. Unfortunately the Royal Family can't visit anywhere at the moment. We all must just do our best.

CendrillonSings · 05/04/2020 09:11

Give me Ireland’s democratic system any day of the week.

Then the answer is simple - get a UK party to run on an abolitionist platform and win a General Election, in true democratic style.

Good luck with that Wink

satansbumhole · 05/04/2020 09:12

I agree with other pp`s.

The speech itself doesnt fuss me, BUT she may get things across better to some who might listen to her, even if theyre not listening to the government/ their kids etc.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 05/04/2020 09:13

Parliament already has the authority to determine the sucession. A vote of both houses is all you need.

Iwantacookie · 05/04/2020 09:14

I think she should of made the announcement instead of boris or done a speech after him.
I think it would of put alot more weight behind what he said.
I do wonder though weather the fact she hasn't before is perhaps because of her safety and there was absolutely noone but immediate family with her.
I agree with others now it just seems too little to late and like we are an after thought.

CendrillonSings · 05/04/2020 09:15

I agree that it would be very difficult for Corbyn to get elected PM.

For some reason.

We don’t really need to go through all the reasons again, do we? Even the Labour Party’s given up on the Corbyn cult now.

bellinisurge · 05/04/2020 09:15

@audreysview , if you're American family are saying Trump is doing a good job, I hope they are staying in and staying safe. Because he is fucking it up.

Boireannachlaidir · 05/04/2020 09:15

Here we go... the professionally "wound up" starting threads about a subject they hate despite the fact that listening to the Queen is not compulsory.

These days we curate our own newsfeeds so you can a) simply avoid reading about it or b) start a royal-bashing thread. For what reason? To vent? Create your own echo chamber? Get a thrill from insulting those who disagree with you from the comfort of anonymity?

You need a name change as the current one doesn't suit you Grin

Iwantacookie · 05/04/2020 09:17

Not to be morbid but what would happen if the queen dies during all of this?

Figgygal · 05/04/2020 09:17

Don’t watch it then

chomalungma · 05/04/2020 09:18

Then the answer is simple - get a UK party to run on an abolitionist platform and win a General Election, in true democratic style

TBH - I think they will become an irrelevance and fade out.

They are their own worst enemies - and the best way for something to lose its impact is not to try to get rid of it but for it to destroy itself.

CendrillonSings · 05/04/2020 09:18

Parliament already has the authority to determine the sucession. A vote of both houses is all you need.

With no electoral mandate to do so? With almost all MPs elected on a platform of retaining the monarchy? Are you sure you’re really a fan of democracy?

LaurieMarlow · 05/04/2020 09:21

Not to be morbid but what would happen if the queen dies during all of this?

Yeah, that would be a difficult one.

bellinisurge · 05/04/2020 09:21

@Iwantacookie , we won't be able to have a state funeral.

LaurieMarlow · 05/04/2020 09:22

Okay, out of interest, for the royalists on here.

Do you believe that they are ‘divinely appointed’ to rule?
