Am I the only one who actually couldn’t give a shiny shit what she has to say at this time.

People are dying , everyone is affected so the last thing we need is a rich old woman sitting in her ivory castle asking us to stay calm.

It’s really wound me up, it’s constantly being mentioned on the news!

For once i totally agree. If anything this virus has shown is how worthless the royal family is

LuluJakey1 · 05/04/2020 21:44

I think this thread has actually some of the most ill-informed, rude, unkind, unpleasant posters I have ever seen on a mnet thread.

I'm off to watch the news about Boris.

All of the monies raised by the estate of The Duchy of Lancaster (which includes the Crown Estates) are highly taxed and the rest given to the government who give a grant back to the sovereign to support her work and the Royal properties

The Duchies and the Crown Estates are totally different things, very different legal entities.

The Crown Estates are public money, from which she is granted an exceptionally generous allowance. Talking of her ‘paying tax’ on CE money is a nonsense. It’s not hers to begin with, it belongs to the legal entity of ‘The Crown’.

diddl · 05/04/2020 21:48

"We will overcome this".

Sadly many won't though.

It's not like war is is where there's a cause that is being fought for.

People are dying against something unseen & unknown that can't be fought against.

No telling who will get it or who will survive if they do.

CathyorClaire · 05/04/2020 21:48

The Duchy of Lancaster is separate from the Crown Estate. HMQ finally bowed to having to pay tax as late as 1992. It doesn't pay Corporation tax despite part of the portfolio comprising comercial interets. Similar to the Duchy of Cornwall.

CathyorClaire · 05/04/2020 21:49

commercial

audreysview · 05/04/2020 21:50

Where are Branson, Ashley, Dyson, Martin, Greene, Stelios (all richer than The Queen) and the aristocrats listed above in your thinking about donations?

They aren’t taxpayer funded. We are not their subjects.

givemeanamepls · 05/04/2020 21:52

Right so first LuLu you say:

you are such an ignorant unpleasant twat- and that's your better quality

then you say

I think this thread has actually some of the most ill-informed, rude, unkind, unpleasant posters I have ever seen on a mnet thread.

Ipadipod · 05/04/2020 21:53

The Queens speech cheered my very elderly parents up , so that’s fine by me . My lovely old mum thinks she’s wonderful after receiving a 60th wedding anniversary card from her . ‘Fancy her keeping a note of everyone’s anniversary ‘ said my Mum , she doesn’t realise that we had to apply for the card online!

LaurieMarlow · 05/04/2020 21:55

In fairness, no ones lauding those guys either.

She is a Wonderful Lady and has done so much for us . She wasn't
born to be queen but landed there thanks to her Uncle an his american divorcee. She has had a lot of grief in her life - as had many of us - just get off her back.

audreysview · 05/04/2020 21:58

Lululakey1 Bye then. Give me those “unkind” republicans any day of the week. They sound a hell of a lot kinder and caring than you strange lot. Sounds like they have their priorities right. For the life of me I’ve never understood monarchists. Not my kind of people.

givemeanamepls · 05/04/2020 22:01

Wallis Simpson, hun. Wallis Simpson. The fact you refer to her as "his american fiancee" speaks volumes.

givemeanamepls · 05/04/2020 22:02

American divorcee* not fiancee

Mamamia456 · 05/04/2020 22:09

Effervescent - You sound very young.

IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 · 05/04/2020 22:10

It's nothing to do with being a monarchist - it has to do with having respect for people whatever their role in Society is.

audreysview · 05/04/2020 22:14

The thing is though, I don’t have any respect for any of them. I respect people who contribute to society, often for little reward, not to an elitist family who live off the backs of others.

IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 · 05/04/2020 22:17

To "givemeanamepls- please don't call me "hun" - I am not your "hun" and never will be.

Alsohuman · 05/04/2020 22:17

Mine said “How did she know?”, I told her the Queen knows everything!

ArriettyJones · 05/04/2020 22:41

You sound very young.

Can we all please stop using that as a put down?

It must really alienate young mums who hang out on MN.

There’s nothing else inherently foolish, unpleasant or otherwise negative about being young.

ArriettyJones · 05/04/2020 22:42

Rogue “else” in there 🤷🏽‍♀️

IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 · 05/04/2020 23:03

to "givemeanameplease and under what catergory would you place vourself?

LiquoricePickle · 06/04/2020 00:07

Because I think that it WILL make some people feel better and that's worth something. I'm sorry that it won't make you feel better and I thank you for everything you are doing.

LiquoricePickle · 06/04/2020 00:10

This thread is full of people saying "I don't care about the Queen so it won't make a difference to me." Newsflash: it's not all about you.

CatAndHisKit · 06/04/2020 01:47

audrey they produce a lot of revenue for the country (tourism, art exhibitions), create a large number of jobs, and support a lot of charities. The Queen was/still is important also on the diplomatic scene Internationally.

I liked the speech, I'm in 40s, to me it was positive and calm, just what's needed. She also looked sincere, she seriously does care about this country. The Queen is a remarkable person, though this can't be said about others in the RF.
