Ghost in house

So I was house sitting tonight by myself just to feed the person's fish and leave. They have "joked" about seeing a ghost who stands in the corner of their verandah outside (I'm in Australia) and to my surprise I see him standing right fucking there!!! He was facing towards the sky then slowly turned to me and just started staring at me I never looked away from him but had my phone in my hand and quickly took this. Anyway, to not identify myself or show the persons hoise contents, I have zoomed in the photo.
The front door to leave was behind me so I just walked backwards to the door not taking my eyes off of him and he continued to look at me then as I put my hand on the door handle he vanished! Completely shocked right now I don't think I'll sleep. And yes i was alone and no one else came with me!

@LouiseCollina we have a 2 year old and a 6 month old. I wasn't going to drag them all with me to feed a few fish.

@managedmis - er, because he was wearing a flannel shirt when he died?! Obviously. Grin

Or they had a chilly night. It was 12 degrees here last night!

WindyRose · 05/04/2020 02:35

FunkyKingston Where's the proof that your theory is correct? Fwiw, I believe the OP.

managedmis Why can't Aussies wear a flannel shirt?

managedmis · 05/04/2020 02:38

I have no idea, windy

FunkyKingston · 05/04/2020 02:58

Well let's think.

Is it a) A reflection from a flash in the dirty window combined with a human's tenency to see pattern and order where none exists. Phenomenons that are well understood, observable and measurable and compatible with the laws of science.

Or is it B)

A visitor from the beyond the grave who has defied the laws of time and space and has overcome the minor obstacle of being dead.

Difficult one.

Fwiw, I believe the OP

More fool you.

imabusybee · 05/04/2020 03:00

Looks more like Joe Exotic to me Grin Confused

WindyRose · 05/04/2020 03:29

Funky maybe it's a mixture of both? Confused

Call me a fool, doesn't bother me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Flowers
FunkyKingston · 05/04/2020 03:39

Funky maybe it's a mixture of both?

It isn't. It is flash in a dirty, smeary window.

bbpet · 05/04/2020 03:43

God why did I read this so late.

Tp93 · 05/04/2020 04:04

@imabusybee does look like Joe Exotic a bit 😂

GinnyStrupac · 05/04/2020 04:08

It does look like smears and reflection/light reflection. I see 3 things behind 'him' too - the first does look like a bear or a giant long-eared dog, the one at the back looks the weirdest.

Time for bed. Not that I believe in this sort of thing, you understand, but Gin

JoeExotic · 05/04/2020 04:08

Creepy

LouiseCollina · 05/04/2020 08:12

Stains on glass don’t turn around to look at you. Surely that theory is at least as unbelievable as a ghost. There’s a lot that goes on in this world we have no clue about.

JudyCoolibar · 05/04/2020 09:37

But stains may give the impression of moving as you move around the room and the light hits them from different angles.

JudyCoolibar · 05/04/2020 09:39

The problem with the ghost theory is that, if that is a man, the head is seriously out of proportion with the body.

ShowOfHands · 05/04/2020 09:55

It's peculiar on MN the way people leap on a thread about mediums and scream BULLSHIT with absolute certainty but on a ghost thread, people are desperate to believe. They want dead people to be drifting about behind glass but unable to communicate clearly.

There is no such thing as ghosts. People who have had experiences that "can't possibly be explained" have usually had experiences they don't want to be explained. Human beings are suggestible. The op had even been told there was ghost there, that he is male. There is glass distortion, Christmas lights, an unreliable witness.

Yorkshirelass04 · 05/04/2020 10:32

Can I suggest that you or your husband take a picture of the door again but without the man there? That way we can see whether the marks are still there. Maybe from a few different angles.

I do believe you had the experience (whatever a 'ghost' is) and I have a real problem with people dismissing your account. It's almost the same as saying you are deluded / a liar.

BunnytheBee · 05/04/2020 10:49

I agree with @Yorkshirelass04 (and am a yorkshire lass myself - high five!) and what particularly annoys me is those who are adamant that ghosts do not exist. How can they possibly know what others have experienced?

savethecat · 05/04/2020 10:58

I so need to know which city this is. I grew up in a proper Amityville horror style house (but real) and wonder if its my old house

BunnytheBee · 05/04/2020 11:02

Wow I’d love to hear about that @savethecat

savethecat · 05/04/2020 11:08

Bizarrely, I'm not a ghost believer but our family home was properly cursed if you believe in that kind of thing. We eventually just left and left belongings there as well. People just came and helped themselves to what we left.
It was a long series of things including an eventual descent into mental health issues for one of my parents, carpets that kept just staining overnight (even brand new ones), doors being thrust open suddenly...the works.

savethecat · 05/04/2020 11:09

Anyway, I don't actually talk about it. This may be the first time I have mentioned it in 30 years. Moving on.

PutThemInTheIronMaiden · 05/04/2020 11:19

Standard.

Ghosts don't exist.

savethecat · 05/04/2020 11:21

I agree. Not a ghost believer.

Tp93 · 05/04/2020 11:24

Look everyone I know what I saw. If you don't believe in it then good for you but no need to dismiss what others believe in or have seen.
When I get the courage to go outside and take a picture at night then I will so stay tuned!

I'm not a pet owner so I don't know about feeding fish she just asked me to feed the fish every day! She is home now so can feed her own fish!

She did say she used to be scared of him but she said out allowed that as long as he doesn't come inside or try and scare them then she doesn't mind! He apparently doesnt come very night but does most nights and if he does show himself it's not for long. Believe me I thought it was crazy too but now I believe them both.
