Aibu to think shielded groups should stay home and we should all just get back out there and carry on?

The economy is going to be on its knees!

If you can work, you should be allowed to.

And what do you think happens next Rafals? Once restrictions are lifted ....?

Crazycrazylady · 04/04/2020 13:14

Op
I think it's clear that because you and your family are no longer at risk, then you want the restrictions lifted so you can go back around your business and eat in restaurants again. Feck everyone else though right.

Notonmyshift · 04/04/2020 13:17

Honestly op. I was actually taking you seriously till your last few posts,
But now I see it's a wind up so you crack on
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Legoandloldolls · 04/04/2020 13:22

I think yabu. No o e knows how each person will react to CV and fit 30 year olds in ICU beds are taking beds that in normal time would be for cancer, stroke, rta etc people.

Plus most importantly they add to our NHS staff vital load. Staff that have family, are loved.

After this we wont have some of NHS staff. They wont make it. If anyone thinks that's ok, I'm ok. Think again. It take 5 years to do a medical degree. You need to be a straight A student. About 15 years at least to be a consultant. People like that and have the stomach for that job dont grow on trees.

So years down the line, when you have cancer, a stroke, RTA, corna has a vaccine, you will still be fucked as our NHS wealth of knowledge and experience are dead.

This doesn't just go away vaccine or not. People will die with their experience that cant be replicated for at least a decade

moreginplease81 · 04/04/2020 13:43

@Notonmyshift 🤣

GreenTulips · 04/04/2020 13:47

But temperature testing before entering a restaurant and being able to go out should be allowed

I fear for people's mental health

Could you not fear for the £5 an hour 16 year old waitress instead?

CheshireChat · 04/04/2020 14:04

The whole idea is that we stagger people getting ill so that hospitals and the world at large isn't overwhelmed, we'll develop herd immunity in time.

CheshireChat · 04/04/2020 14:07

Plus, isn't repeated exposure really bad with Covid? So further reason to isolate.

The OP saying that her family had it and are fine, reminds me of people who insist on chicken pox parties ignoring that lots who get it aren't fine.

SauvignonBlanche · 04/04/2020 14:12

@moreginplease81, I suggest you stick to tonic Hmm

celan · 04/04/2020 14:13

OP, I completely agree with you.

StCharlotte · 04/04/2020 14:32

and how's Sweden getting on?

No idea. Hence my comment of "only time will tell".

Fizbo · 04/04/2020 14:49

Are you going to volunteer to join the NHS then OP? As you are now 'safe' having had it and survived! Please do and take my place watching people die every day in the most horrific way. Please sit with someone who is under 30 and begs you to not let them die because they have small children. Please tell the sobbing relatives of the healthy 50 year old that sadly she isn't responding and is now on end of life care but only one of them at a time can come and sit with her, so no hugging each other for comfort.
Please watch someone die from behind a glass panel in a door in the hope that in some way they know they matter and even though they are unconscious and you can't hold their hand you are with them.
This was one shift by the way.
Think before you post, this is real and we aren't even at the worst part yet.
I have been a nurse for 18 years and this pandemic has broken me in so many ways. I will not nurse again when this is over as I have seen such suffering I will never be the same person again.
Shame on you for your ignorance!

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 04/04/2020 14:59

'I've had it so other people should just shut up and day so I can go back to living how I want'. Nice. My 14-year-old is less selfish and more mature.

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 04/04/2020 15:02

die, not day.

BelleSausage · 04/04/2020 15:04

A five year old was announced as one of the dead today.

5 years old.

Go have a rethink OP.

Lucked · 04/04/2020 15:08

Please watch this Channel 4 interview with an intensive care Consultant. It is long but worth it. Really good and compelling interview.

All our ICU patients are in their 50s or younger

CaptainBrickbeard · 04/04/2020 16:29

Belle I hadn’t heard that. I thought there had been no deaths worldwide in the age 0-9 category. How terrifying if that has changed.

FairlowWonder · 04/04/2020 16:32

Shielded people are staying at home! We need this lockdown as well as that to prevent deaths. Also what happens when a carer goes into the home of a shielded person? We need to protect the carers, nhs staff and other key workers too.

Devlesko · 04/04/2020 18:55

Why not, flu does exist you've seen the stats for deaths yourself.
I'm sorry your dd had it, but thank God she was lucky enough to manage to get tested.
Why can't you work OP, has your workplace closed and you can't wfh?

GreenTulips · 04/04/2020 19:11

A six week old baby died from out as well

Not just the old dears

SerendipityJane · 04/04/2020 19:14

Why isn't this thread in the C-19 forum, along with all the other suspiciously shill-sounding ones trying to make it seem like the whole country is behind the privileged few that would rather see us back to work and dying than staying safe and keeping others safe ?

Ronnie27 · 04/04/2020 19:17

Everyone I know seems to be inventing new medical conditions to explain why they are competitively vulnerable but I can practically guarantee that none will get shielding letters, they’re just scared. I don’t really blame them, I don’t particularly fancy going out myself at the moment either. Grin

Ronnie27 · 04/04/2020 19:21

Sorry just to clarify, I’m a keyworker so still out and about. Zero medical conditions myself so if I’m a bit edgy I can only imagine what some are feeling.

jasjas1973 · 04/04/2020 19:42

@SerendipityJane It will not be the rich suffering from mass unemployment, repossessions and poverty.

The reality of a prolonged lockdown is economic collapse, if Prof Ferguson is correct that over half of all CV19 deaths would have occurred anyway, then we need to think through what we are doing and if there is a way fwd that protects lives but does not destroy our economy.
Fwiw i was bought up in abject poverty & violence, wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/04/2020 19:53

I think the shielding letters might have caused some people to forget that not all of the people who are classified as vulnerable and at increased risk will have got a letter.

The letters went to the 1.5 million of the at risk group most at risk. The rest of the at risk group are supposed to be social distancing more stringently than the rest of the population. They seem to be stuck in a weird sort of no man’s land at the moment.
