Aibu to think shielded groups should stay home and we should all just get back out there and carry on?

The economy is going to be on its knees!

If you can work, you should be allowed to.

@moreginplease81 but those people don’t all die from something as contagious and that spreads in the same way this virus does. Colds/flus are contagious of course but don’t kill people in the same volumes that covid19 does.

moreginplease81 · 04/04/2020 12:54

I agree with social distancing, no crowds, shutting down events such as the races and Wimbledon.

But temperature testing before entering a restaurant and being able to go out should be allowed.

I fear for people's mental health.

There many be far more deaths from a depression. Look at the suicide rates from the Great Depression and 2008!

50,000 people die every month. Every month. We don't lockdown then.

Die from what? Do you think lockdown will stop age, cancer, heart problems etc...?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/04/2020 12:55

Sweden and Norway had their first cases on the same day. One has chosen a policy of lockdown, one hasn’t. Norwegian deaths are at about 50, Swedish about 350.

Both are behind the UK in their outbreak. It’s not looking like it’s going to play out all that well for Sweden at this point.

Stet · 04/04/2020 12:55

This is basically the approach Sweden are taking, so it will be interesting to see how that pans out v us. I have a friend who is in Sweden and he says it's largely business as normal there. A few more people working from home but daily life still going on, people still meeting up, etc.

moreginplease81 · 04/04/2020 12:55

@Notonmyshift obviously dragged up to swear at someone. No need.

Keyboard warriors are out today!

And yes, I have had it. So has my husband, daughter and my grandmother.

We have all recovered.

@notonmyshift and it's not just me. You routinely abuse other OPS!

OP posts:
Sparklesocks · 04/04/2020 12:57

@moreginplease81 that’s great you’ve all recovered but many others haven’t, and won’t. Just because your family have been fortunate doesn’t mean others will be. It’s very arrogant to assume your experiences are universal.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 04/04/2020 12:57

Keyboard warriors are out today!

And rightfully so! You can't just go online, throw made up numbers and then get pissy that people argue

AmelieTaylor · 04/04/2020 12:57

I’m getting exhausted carrying all the donkeys

Shielded Groups should stay home and we should all get back out there?
moreginplease81 · 04/04/2020 12:59

@sparklesocks

True, apologies. I was just explaining I had been affected. But we are ok.

@AmelieTaylor 😂

Devlesko · 04/04/2020 13:00

@Devlesko those who have had it should be allowed to go about their day. And those who don't care!

Aw, right, last time i checked there was no scientific evidence that you couldn't catch it again. In fact some have reported that you can.

I think those thick enough to want to go back should be allowed, as a sort of natural selection. It ould solve overpopulation.

Apologies if this has been posted already, but it's interesting

TestBank · 04/04/2020 13:01

You may as well all stop shouting at the op and resign yourselves to how things are going to end up anyway in a few weeks time.

bridgetreilly · 04/04/2020 13:01

The economy will also be on its knees if all the healthy working population get ill at once, and if a proportion of them die. There is no way to stop this having an impact on the economy. What we can do is minimise the impact on the health of the nation by flattening the curve, and then do our best to pick up the economy when we can.

Devlesko · 04/04/2020 13:02

How do you know you have had it, were you tested and diagnosed, flu hasn't stopped existing because of this virus.

TestBank · 04/04/2020 13:04

As 25% of people are asymptomatic there is not going to be a case of everyone being ill all at once.

Beansandcoffee · 04/04/2020 13:05

All very well having a go at the OP but there is no plan. So come Next week we will have sat inside for 3 weeks. How much longer do we do this and for what? As soon as We go out when lockdown finishes we could all get the virus. A lot of people financially also cannot shut shop for months. I’m lucky I’m in the public sector so it easy for me to say let’s keep this lockdown going but I’ve got friends whose businesses support families who don’t know if there will be a business in 3 months time.

Redwinestillfine · 04/04/2020 13:06

Healthy people are dying. We don't know enough about this yet. Yes test but if it shows hardly anyone has had it (%age of population) then vaccine is the only way out.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/04/2020 13:09

Hopefully those friends will are the ones being very vocal about encouraging people to stay in, Beans.

The quicker people get the message, the quicker they can begin to relax the current restrictions.

gordongopherthe3rd · 04/04/2020 13:09

If that's what you want to do then find a way of getting to Sweden. Oh wait.

moreginplease81 · 04/04/2020 13:10

@develsko

I have had it thanks. My daughter was tested and confirmed. My husband and I weren't tested but as we had the horrendous symptoms and my daughter was confirmed, I can assume we've had it.

Don't be one of those - ooooh how do you know. Flu still exists! Please!

OP posts:
moreginplease81 · 04/04/2020 13:11

Agree with @beans.

What do you actually do for a living @develsko ?
