Are German nipples the worst?

Crackerofdoom · 03/04/2020 15:34

I just learned the word for nipples in German is Brustwarzen

The literal translation is "breast warts"

Is this the worst direct translation or are there more out there?

No, but they do refer to tesitcles as soft-boiled eggs.

teafourtoo · 03/04/2020 17:10

German is so funny for it's literal translations. The contraceptive pill translates as 'anti baby pill'

BertieBotts · 03/04/2020 17:11

Vagina is literally sheath (as in, for a sword). Must be confusing if you come from somewhere that calls condoms sheaths.

AudTheDeepMinded · 03/04/2020 17:11

@Puffinshop that's even better! although I am getting flash backs to those massive lights they shine on your foof if you're in stirrups having forceps!

astericia · 03/04/2020 17:12

Slug is Nacktschnecke- Naked snail!

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/04/2020 17:12

zhivortnoye

No no no!

Zhivot/живот is tummy, but Zhivoy/живой is something living, so Zhivotnоye/животное is a live creature. Not a tummy! Njet!

Haggisfish · 03/04/2020 17:13

This is a stupendous thread!! Breast warts! Grin

custodiandiscount · 03/04/2020 17:13

this is possibly the best thread ever blatant placemark

Wtfareyou · 03/04/2020 17:13

Kummerspec is the German word for the excess fat gained during emotional over-eating when stressed or upset etc.

So quite literally... grief bacon Grin

hibeat · 03/04/2020 17:14

Thanks, this is the best.

DGRossetti · 03/04/2020 17:14

I think it's cheating to use different alphabets ...

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/04/2020 17:14

Kümmerspeck might be my favourite German word.

clareOclareO · 03/04/2020 17:15

It's always hilarious to laugh at foreigners and their daft words.

Sammymommy · 03/04/2020 17:16

I'm glad we could vote for that, even by accident!

I just giggled to myself, I don't think I had as much as smile for days so thank OP!

McMaman · 03/04/2020 17:17

Wtfareyou · 03/04/2020 17:17

DGRossetti · 03/04/2020 17:19

It's always hilarious to laugh at foreigners and their daft words.

And then steal them ...

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/04/2020 17:19

Aber gern!

SnowStag · 03/04/2020 17:19

Chardonnay i like little tummies more though! Grin

I call my cats 'the little tummies'.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 03/04/2020 17:20

I think it was Bill Bryson (or possibly Terry Pratchett) who described English as a language which waited down an alley with a sock full of wet sand, ready to mug other languages and steal their words.

CheriLittlebottom · 03/04/2020 17:24

Pratchett I think.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/04/2020 17:24

Sorry!

They would be животики.

But all circumstances considered I'll let you off with the tummies. Grin

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 03/04/2020 17:25

I have definitely gained some kuumerspec, but in my case I think its more cheese than bacon!

CallSignCharlie · 03/04/2020 17:30

My favourite literal translations are French
Papillon de nuit - night butterfly (moth)
Citron vert - green lemon ( lime)!

Oblomov20 · 03/04/2020 17:30

Ha ha Grin
