To ask if amazon delivery is really taking until Fri 1 May?

Can anyone tell me if items ordered from Amazon are actually all going to be delivered on Friday 1 May as it seems to suggest, or if that's the latest possible date for delivery?
I've just ordered some learning aids for my boy because he's struggling without the ones he normally has at school, and realised after paying that it says delivery Fri 1 May. So if it really will take that long then I need to cancel and try to order from somewhere else.

I ordered a few things back end of last week and they came within a few days. I did notice this morning most items said 1/5th tbough.

Suzanne12 · 03/04/2020 14:06

Isn't it because everything has been sold and that's when they'll have more stock?

PaddingtonStation · 03/04/2020 14:06

If that’s the date it says then that’s roughly the date it will be delivered. Cancel the order and find somewhere else that sells it with an earlier delivery date. Amazon are definitely still getting orders out quickly - something arrived today that I’d ordered yesterday. It just depends what it is though, it always confirms the date before you click buy.

Cheeseismylife · 03/04/2020 14:07

The things I ordered say that they are in stock. But looking around the site almost every thing that isn't food or cleaning products is listed 1 May

Some items are taking much longer than usual as a result of the crisis - though I haven’t seen much taking a whole month. Some items are shipped from China etc and these have always taken weeks to arrive - could that be the case here? I normally find items shipped from China arrive before the advertised date but do take a while.

GreyGardens88 · 03/04/2020 14:08

Ordered an item on Tuesday I have an estimated delivery date of 17th April

PawPawNoodle · 03/04/2020 14:08

I've taken the liberty of googling this for you.

I ordered stuff at the weekend that said delivery 26.04 and they are coming today

PaddingtonStation · 03/04/2020 14:09

I’ve just ordered this which it says will come on Wednesday. So longer than normal as it’s not a priority product but still only a few days

Some items that you would normally expect next day say 11th May.

user1493413286 · 03/04/2020 14:10

I think it depends if it’s in stock; I ordered some baby bottles 2 days ago and they came today

BrieAndChilli · 03/04/2020 14:10

I’ve ordered a few bits that said end April or may but they all came within a few day.
Ordered a board game that said 20th may. It’s now changed to say Saturday.

stardance · 03/04/2020 14:12

We ordered printer ink and it came the next day.

Stet · 03/04/2020 14:12

They are prioritising essential stuff so stuff they deem non-essential often has a much longer delivery time at the moment, whether it is in stock or not.

bennyboy20 · 03/04/2020 14:14

"Non essential" items are taking longer to be delivered as Amazon are prioritising "essential" items.

I ordered some bits for my DS from Amazon 2 days ago with an expected delivery date of Apr 28th. However they have just turned up this morning, so I don't think things are taking as long as advertised.

RelapsedChocoholic · 03/04/2020 14:15

Amazon have de-prioritised some items so that their staff can focus on essentials- if you need it sooner you’ll need to cancel your order and look for it somewhere else.

From the amazon website, covid-19 response page

  1. Are delivery times affected?

They have a statement on there saying food/medical stuff will take priority but deliveries will be made as soon as possible.

If it was for me I’d just order it, but I ordered a birthday present this morning & did it elsewhere as I’d like be more sure if it arriving in time.

ShellsAndSunrises · 03/04/2020 14:15

As of March 17th, they stopped non-essential deliveries in the UK & US. It's prioritising baby products, health and household, beauty and personal, groceries, scientific and industrial and pet supplies.

Kuponut · 03/04/2020 14:16

Depends what it is - I just ordered some stuff today that will come mid-next week but it took a lot of raking between the stuff to find those rather than ones showing a May delivery date.

Lot more stuff getting lost in transit at the moment as well though - I’ve had to apply for a couple of refunds or “errr where’s my stuff” recently.

KitKat1985 · 03/04/2020 14:19

I ordered a few items that said delivery wouldn't be until May but it had actually all arrived within 1 week.

GreyGardens88 · 03/04/2020 14:19

They haven't taken the money out of my account yet for an item I ordered on Tuesday, but I have a delivery date. I ordered a Kindle

Cheeseismylife · 03/04/2020 14:21

Thanks all - I had read the amazon page about extended delivery times but the product page says 'by Friday 1 May.
I was trying to get a sense of whether they would actually take a month to deliver or if it may turn up faster. Every version of the product has a delivery day of by May 1 so I'd have to find one elsewhere if I cancel.
