To ask if amazon delivery is really taking until Fri 1 May?

Can anyone tell me if items ordered from Amazon are actually all going to be delivered on Friday 1 May as it seems to suggest, or if that's the latest possible date for delivery?
I've just ordered some learning aids for my boy because he's struggling without the ones he normally has at school, and realised after paying that it says delivery Fri 1 May. So if it really will take that long then I need to cancel and try to order from somewhere else.

Weirdly I could still get at least 50 types of bookmark delivered by Sunday - hardly essential, food or industrial. Hmm

No they are delivering Easter eggs to some places faster. I think it’s a matter of finding delivery drivers willing to deliver non-essential items

MadisonAvenue · 03/04/2020 14:23

I ordered an item on Wednesday which was in stock (Amazon were the seller) but gave a delivery date of April 29th. It was despatched late on Wednesday and my delivery date changed to today, it arrived yesterday (Thursday) morning.

I ordered a new battery for the baby monitor ages ago. It's tracked but it hasn't arrived and if I check the order page it says I can request a refund. Possibly it's to avoid a load of refund requests for stuff that hasn't arrived?

Hydradancer · 03/04/2020 14:24

Do you have Prime? We do and things are taking a bit longer but still arriving early next week. Can you ask a friend or family member with prime to order for you?

goldie04 · 03/04/2020 14:24

I ordered printer ink yesterday and it's coming this evening. I've just ordered sushi seaweed sheets and they're coming on Sunday. Not much of a delay here.

imiss · 03/04/2020 14:27

Ordered a moisturiser yesterday and got an email saying dispatched an hour ago. Should arrive tomorrow Smile

SylvanianFrenemies · 03/04/2020 14:27

I ordered something with an estimated delivery of 7th May, then got an email to say it will come 6th April.

EmmiJay · 03/04/2020 14:30

I ordered stuff for DDs birthday this weekend, on Monday (Prime account) and everything came bang on time even though they do mention that other things take priority. I think maybe they're trying to deter people from ordering..? Who knows really.

okiedokieme · 03/04/2020 14:30

I ordered a book on Monday, it came today, free delivery option. Sounds like they are simply covering their backs

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/04/2020 14:31

Ordered a DVD on Monday. Arrived yesterday. I don't think Frozen 2 is an essential.

HoffiCoffi13 · 03/04/2020 14:32

It will depend on all manner of things. I ordered some things yesterday which have just arrived.

Itallgoingpetetong · 03/04/2020 14:33

I ordered something & then noticed it said delivery 15th May -1st June.
I was going to cancel but It’s been dispatched for the last 5 days but no sign of it.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 03/04/2020 14:35

Yep also got this message. I’m trying to order birthday gifts for DH and my nephew, both birthdays middle of April.

I’m going to have a look and see if I can order from smaller shops and only use amazon as a last resort.

HT96 · 03/04/2020 14:46

They are only delivering essential items at the minute unfortunately due to such a high demand 🤦🏻‍♀️

BogRollBOGOF · 03/04/2020 14:49

I ordered some y4 workbooks early this week. The initial date was in May but then came forwards to 12th April.

Cheeseismylife · 03/04/2020 14:54

I think amazon's definition of essential is a little woolly...
I ordered from them because I was ordering some dry food items at the same time which will arrive by Sunday. I might give it a few days and see if status updates, if not I will cancel and find somewhere else.

Things I have ordered have taken a day or two longer, no more. Trying not to order much and to put it in the same package (pet supplies - essential, book for dc, not essential - but only one delivery).

SoupDragon · 03/04/2020 15:05

As of March 17th, they stopped non-essential deliveries in the UK & US.

No they didn't. What they did is stop third party sellers sending stuff in certain categories to Amazon for them to sell.

Online retail giant Amazon is stopping sellers from sending non-essential items to its UK and US warehouses until 5 April, to make space for vital items needed by its customers during the coronavirus outbreak.

Orangeteddy · 03/04/2020 15:05

DH ordered some lightbulbs from Amazon yesterday. Delivery said up to 1st May. They arrived today

SoupDragon · 03/04/2020 15:07

Some things have a longer delivery time than others and this has always been the case - often those with the long times were actually coming from, say, China. Most thins I've ordered recent have only been a day or two longer than I would normally expect (not that I'm ordering a lot!)

Winterwoollies · 03/04/2020 23:50

I ordered nappies because they said they wouldn’t be here until the middle of May. They came in two days.

Fatted · 03/04/2020 23:55

Do you have prime OP? I've noticed I've been quoted quicker delivery times than relatives for the same item. The only difference being that I have prime membership currently.

I do not want to be cynical and say that Amazon are cashing in on this crisis in any way at all. Hmm

Spanglybangles · 04/04/2020 00:02

I ordered stuff on Tuesday which stayed 5th May estimated delivery, it arrived yesterday (Thursday).

MuseumOfYou · 04/04/2020 00:09

I ordered some baking equipment on Prime last week, date of delivery was given as a month, the stuff arrived within 2 days.
