I’ve been named and ‘shamed’

Admittedly it’s only on our local WhatsApp group...

Opened it this morning and there’s a message from a ‘founder’ member of the group.

“Me, hubs and the kids were out last night making lots of noise for our NHS heroes. Disappointed to see that some of this group don’t care enough to give up 2 minutes of their time!!! Maybe you forgot..(then a list of names including mine). Will be sending you a reminder next week!!”

I know she’s a twat but I’m fuming. I’m not going to dignify it with a reply because she and her little crew of followers love a public war. I’m just going to ignore her but if she thinks she’s forcing me out next week she’s got another bloody think coming.

Tbh if I wasn’t on lockdown I wouldn’t even give it 2 thoughts but I’m winding myself up about it now!

AIBU to think that clapping is not compulsory and nobody else’s business?

All this naming and shaming- it’s very Nazi like!!

DarnedSocks · 06/04/2020 00:01

All this naming and shaming- it's very Nazi like
Not really. Having a dig at someone on WhatsApp or Facebook really isn't like genocide.

WatcherintheRye · 06/04/2020 00:11

Having a dig at someone on WhatsApp or Facebook really isn't like genocide.

But that's exactly how it first started in Nazi Germany - naming and shaming of Jews.

justilou1 · 06/04/2020 00:29

I would ask on the What’sapp page if Mrs Clap has made the yellow armbands for those exercise their right not to participate in next week’s clapping ceremony. You imagine the public lynchings will begin in the cul-de-sac on the weekend when everyone’s available to participate for the best video footage and virtue signaling.

scottishgirl98 · 06/04/2020 08:13

I've forgotten every time no matter our intentions to do it it always gets to 10pm and we're like "shit not again". Its a clap, its just lifting their spirits, donate a tenner to an nhs charity and send in a screenshot of your donation saying ''how many facemasks does a clap buy?" then @ her in it. Fight petty with petty.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 06/04/2020 11:14

Early marking place for Thursday

YourVagesty · 06/04/2020 12:36

Hate all this 'name and shame' nonsense. It's so tasteless. I think these people are saying more about themselves than you.

2kids1divorce · 06/04/2020 13:08

WOW. I didn't go and clap either, but then i don't clap when the pilot lands the plane.

Horses for courses, do your thing, shame she can't let you do yours.

TaighNamGastaOrt · 06/04/2020 22:39

I didn't clap. I didn't shame anyone for doing or not doin it.
Virtue-signalling at its worst. Seriously, it was like a competition round here! Must post video of me shouting loudest on fb!!

Just seen a new one on FB-clap for Boris on wednesday at 12pm!
That'll be a firm nope from me!
Jeez, clap for this, clap for that, clap for the kids. soon we'll have a clapping schedule!!

WingingItSince1973 · 06/04/2020 23:43

Think I'm busy that day Winging

justilou1 · 07/04/2020 10:58

If I lived in the uk, I’d be washing my hair that day for sure

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 07/04/2020 11:14

Ive seen clap for Boris Thursday at 8 - so that is Wednesday at 12, Wednesday eve and Thursday eve. Hmmm....this is bordering on the utterly ridiculous now

Chinks123 · 07/04/2020 12:24

Yes I’ve also just seen this. I’ve actually lost count of how many times we’re supposed to be going out to clap a week now...agree with @CrazyTimesAreOccurring it’s getting stupid. Really wish BJ well but I can’t keep going outside to clap every 2 minutes

I’ve been named and ‘shamed’
thetemptationofchocolate · 07/04/2020 12:37

Have just belly-laughed for the first time in weeks at a comment on fb.
Will paraphrase as it was long.
'If we go out every night for a succession of randoms, we will end up looking like a pack of performing seals'

Arf arf, give us a fish :)

"Just on my local Facebook group someones organising a Clap For Boris on Wednesday eve"

I'm no fan of the man, @WingingItSince1973, but surely one disease at a time is enough for the poor chap! WinkGrin

BiBiBirdie · 07/04/2020 15:47

It just cheapens the NHS clap doesn't it?

And no I won't be clapping for Boris.

drunkyhumptydumpty · 07/04/2020 15:49

To be honest I think the NHS clap was cheapened by the nutters.
I won't participate at all now because I don't want to be associated with them.

creaturcomforts · 07/04/2020 21:03

Ignore! These are probably the same people who never bothered to appreciate the nhs and just wanted to jump on the bandwagon and join in with the "look at me" I'm a big part of this community but ended up looking a twat.

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/04/2020 22:08

Was the clap meant to be tonight or Wednesday?

MinecraftMother · 07/04/2020 22:21

The poster that said reply with a 😂 hits the nail on the head.

justilou1 · 08/04/2020 09:57

Boris has probably had the clap for years

TSSDNCOP · 09/04/2020 15:42

Is it clap night tonight?

MrsClatterbuck · 09/04/2020 16:15

Is it clap night tonight?

My mind is trying very hard not to boggle

My DH cleaned the barbeque yesterday and cooked our tea on it last night. Eaten only by the members of our household. Mind you it is a gas one so there would not have been any tell tale smoke.
How is that breaking any rules? It was great not to have to do any cooking apart from heating a pasta bake in the oven. It will be put to good use these next weeks if the weather stays dry.
