Admittedly it’s only on our local WhatsApp group...

Opened it this morning and there’s a message from a ‘founder’ member of the group.

“Me, hubs and the kids were out last night making lots of noise for our NHS heroes. Disappointed to see that some of this group don’t care enough to give up 2 minutes of their time!!! Maybe you forgot..(then a list of names including mine). Will be sending you a reminder next week!!”

I know she’s a twat but I’m fuming. I’m not going to dignify it with a reply because she and her little crew of followers love a public war. I’m just going to ignore her but if she thinks she’s forcing me out next week she’s got another bloody think coming.

Tbh if I wasn’t on lockdown I wouldn’t even give it 2 thoughts but I’m winding myself up about it now!

AIBU to think that clapping is not compulsory and nobody else’s business?

Say you think it makes more sense to donate colouring books and little treats and activity to children who need them. Ask if you can count on her to do the same. Set up a new cause every week and make her join in.

mel71 · 04/04/2020 18:49

I have a son who works for the NHS and is currently working silly hours. I didn't clap for the NHS. I vote Labour instead.

sussexoldspot · 04/04/2020 19:16

FFS, this stuff boils my piss. Our neighbour is self-appointed street WhatsApp lead and messaged everyone on Thurs, saying we "have to go out and clap our wonderful NHS". We didn't, cos I'd just finished a 13 hour day with no PPE in the wonderful NHS. Saw her today, not only was she sniffy about us not turning out, she also told us they had friends coming over! Needless to say, she's also not volunteered to support the NHS.

Umascooter · 04/04/2020 19:19

to answer above ques - most places work a 12hr pattern - shifts are 8 to 8.

If I have been on nights and want to adjust to days again I have to sleep a long night to adjust back. zzzz
It is not all NHS workers all of the time

claireyjs · 04/04/2020 19:23

How does she know you weren't self isolating? She obviously wasn't thinking about the key workers if she was making a list...

LadyRoughDiamond · 04/04/2020 19:36

I went out and clapped the first week but now, no. I'll save my clapping for when my husband gets the PPE he needs to do his job.

Standingstone77 · 04/04/2020 20:01

Exactly Mel71.
We all knew about it in Late December/early January where I work (A+E in a city) . Oliversmumsarmy. And we all got the memo saying it wasn’t financially worthwhile stocking up on masks etc as it might not happen.

FaveNumberIs2 · 04/04/2020 20:10

Why are you even staying in the group?

Nanny0gg · 04/04/2020 20:25

That dance thing is spreading... :-(

Darkstar4855 · 04/04/2020 20:27

I am front line NHS staff. I couldn’t give a shit if you clap or not. I would far rather you stayed in and observed social distancing rules as that will actually make a difference and help us do our jobs.

Pawsandnoses · 04/04/2020 20:31

I didn't. Not because I don't think the NHS and it's workers are amazing, but because 1)It's a bit Orwellian and freaks me out 2) I don't really understand what the point is. It just seems to result in people out on the road having a chat 3)I start putting DD to bed at 7.30 to maintain routine. It's been taking me 2 hours some nights because she misses her grandparents. I think this is the longest she hasn't seen them for as we used to live with them and she has moments of devastation on a daily basis.

Namechangerextraordinaire1 · 04/04/2020 20:53

I would also leave the chat or reply with 😂.

I don't go out and clap because I don't get the point. It means absolutely jack shit, there are no nhs workers on our street to appreciate it and I'd imagine the ones that do work for the nhs are either atwork, or trying to catch up on some sleep for the most part and could do without the noise.

That's not to say I don't appreciate what they do, because I do. But clapping doesn't help with anything at all

Lily019 · 04/04/2020 21:13

What an absolute bitch!! I didn't go out and clap on Thursday because last week when I did, I ended up in a sobbing mess, thinking about my brother and sister in law (brand new parents) and a close friend, who all work in ICU in Spain. My claps and tears are of no use to them, whereas PPE, testing and better equipped units would be. Tell your' WhatsApp Founder' friend to stick that in her pipe and smoke it!!

Jack80 · 04/04/2020 21:40

One of my mums neighbours said a similar thing, basically disappointed that not all the neighbours took part

Usernamerequired · 04/04/2020 21:41

Our door steps are quite open and exposed on a busy road. I’d feel like a bit of a twat having the neighbours i do not get on with watching me. Instead we light a candle at our front window and clap from our livingroom-we are in self isolation anyway. Very grateful for all the NHS and Keyworkers are doing at this very difficult time.

Petlover9 · 04/04/2020 22:08

@Gatehouse77
I agree with you - It won’t make any difference, just a lot of noise to wake up babies , she is a busybody, her type always walk the moral high ground

emilybrontescorsett · 04/04/2020 22:16

Wow she sounds delightful.

emilybrontescorsett · 04/04/2020 22:26

Yep no point at all in voting Tory and then clapping!
Instead try voting for a political party which supports the NHS
Remember Borris voted against giving NHS staff a pay rise, then clapped and whooped in delight when the vote which prevented them getting a pay rise was passed.
Do not pretend to give a fuck about the NHS if you voted for that man.
Don't try and justify yourself.
You get what you deserve.
If she had said anything to me I would have questioned her voting habits and ripped her a new arsehole if I found out she was a conservative voter.

Hey ho at least the fucking white elephant which is HS2 is still going ahead, costing billions. At least Borris and his cronies will all financially benefit from that, seeing as though they are all shareholders in the companies which are commissioned to build it.

TheMsMurphy · 04/04/2020 23:21

Fuck that shit. Leave group. I work for the NHS and I didn’t clap. Granted the first time I was putting my little boy to bed and the second I completely forgot. But I didn’t hear anybody down my end clap the second time.

MissMoan · 05/04/2020 00:37

Surely there are better things to worry about than who goes outside to clap. She sounds like a moron.

ChristieB2 · 05/04/2020 07:24

She is being an arse!

The clapping is a lovely thing and it is there to counter balance the douches who are disrespecting the NHS......but if you are caring for your family and complying to the guidelines you have already clapped.

Some people always feel the need to assert themselves over others.
Don't let her distract you from being you. Thats what she wants.

urkidding · 05/04/2020 07:36

Here is an answer: I am finding the clapping annoying. People like Boris who did nothing about testing are using it to boost their images. We already had data on Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore where they dealt successfully with the virus and have hardly any deaths. The clapping was not pressurising Boris to do something about tests. It is a distraction. There is no point in supporting the health service is you do not pressurise the leaders to do something about tests and just aid them in their publicity exercises.

BBCONEANDTWO · 05/04/2020 09:19

Here is someone who clapped - then broke the rules - The Chief Medical Officer for Scotland - what a hypocrite.

What gets me about this is that there will be people stuck in flats on low incomes with NO outside space - here's this woman buggering off to her luxury home for the weekend. Sickening!

The Sun must have spunked in their pants when they got their mitts on that story

Callo · 05/04/2020 09:37

That's bad BBC
