Is it anti-social to smoke in your garden?

Just that really, abiu to smoke cigarettes in my garden?

When I do, I notice my neighbour shut his window. It makes me feel awkward about doing it as I dont want to annoy him, but just wondered if other people even think about it annoying their neighbours? Or am i over thinking it?

OP posts:

Why do you smoke outside OP?

BeetrootRocks · 02/04/2020 19:48

Maybe because of all the medical advice over the years not to smoke indoors and that you always have to smoke outside at the pub etc

Since this Corona business a lot of people have turned into of self righteous, disingenuous arseholes.

Macncheeseballs · 02/04/2020 19:52

Just give up already. You do know theres a virus going about that attacks the lungs?

Roweeeeena · 02/04/2020 19:57

I don't understand why it's an issue that he closes his windows.. It's not like he is shouting at you! In our old flat the downstairs neighbour used to smoke and it would drift right up into our living room, it was vile. I shut my windows every time because I had a young baby. Should I have left them open so as not to offend someone who clearly doesn't care about causing inconvenience to me? No. Do what you want in your garden but don't moan when someone tries to avoid the stench.

PoloMama · 02/04/2020 19:57

It’s revolting and you shouldn’t subject other people to it. If ever there’s a time to give up smoking it’s now.

MoonBaby1 · 02/04/2020 19:58

Why are posters telling her to smoke inside? With a user name like mummy she’s probably a mother and doesn’t want to cause actual harm (vs a micro annoyance) to her children.

MoonBaby1 · 02/04/2020 19:59

And those saying noes a good time to give up have neither an ounce of compassion nor a clue as to how addiction works. Hmm

Oh - so fill other people's homes with it instead?

Niiiiiice.

voiceofsanitary · 02/04/2020 20:04

Lollling at passive smoking being a 'micro-annoyance'.
Net you just went to 'clap 4 r NHS workerz' then lit up...

millymae · 02/04/2020 20:06

I am on the fence here really as there are so many variables.
Setting aside the fact that I can’t understand why anyone would want to burn money on something that is doing them harm, I don’t think you are being unreasonable in lighting up if the smoke and the smell is not being wafted in your neighbours direction.
On the other hand if you are in very close proximity and it is obvious that the smoke is heading their way, then yes you are being very reasonable.
As a non smoker myself I am very resentful of smokers who sit outside cafes/pubs and puff away, giving no thought to which direction their smoke is heading in. I’d feel the same if I lived next door to someone who smoked and didn’t consider me at all.

MoonBaby1 · 02/04/2020 20:06

voiceofsanitary no, a small wast of an unpleasant smell that not in a confined space will cause no harm at all vs the well documented risks of second hand smoke in the home.

MoonBaby1 · 02/04/2020 20:07

voice I don’t smoke. I never have. I just don’t agree with the spouting of hyperbolic crap that smoking outdoors gets.

voiceofsanitary · 02/04/2020 20:07

If it was a small waft the neighbour probably wouldn't feel the need to close their windows, would they?

SoupDragon · 02/04/2020 20:09

I have just started up again since the week of the lockdown

Isn't it a little odd to start smoking again when we have just gone into lockdown because of a respiratory virus...?

BeetrootRocks · 02/04/2020 20:09

Yes it's funny isn't it.
Why don't you smoke inside indeed? Agree passive aggressive bollocks.
This really has brought out the worst in people.

bitchonthepitch · 02/04/2020 20:09

Yes, very.

MoonBaby1 · 02/04/2020 20:10

Or that it smells a bit rough....

APatchyTomCat · 02/04/2020 20:11

To be fair, if you can smell it you're breathing it

BeetrootRocks · 02/04/2020 20:11

It's stressful.
More faux questions.
It's obvious why being stuck at home, possibly bored, possibly stressed, in the middle of a massive unprecedented Hondo crisis would make some prior return to well known props.

MoonBaby1 · 02/04/2020 20:11

beetlerocks yep, lots of people asking with wife eyes why someone won’t give up a highly addictive substance that they feel alleviates anxiety at a time like this!

bitchonthepitch · 02/04/2020 20:12

And those saying noes a good time to give up have neither an ounce of compassion nor a clue as to how addiction works.

It's an extremely good time to give up. Cigarettes are not essential purchases so OP shouldn't be buying them anyway. I haven't been out for a fortnight and so haven't had chocolate, wine or crisps as I've not been able to get any. It's one of those things that we don't need just like the OP doesn't need cigarettes.

MoonBaby1 · 02/04/2020 20:12

Wide (not wife Grin)

BeetrootRocks · 02/04/2020 20:12

It's ok people, smoking puts you at higher risk. Something positive to consider.

BeetrootRocks · 02/04/2020 20:13

I mean the bastard smokers are more likely to die, in case that wasn't clear Smile

couchlover · 02/04/2020 20:13

Yes it is but you have every right to do it.y next door neighbour does and in the summer I hate it and always close the windows or go in side when he comes out to smoke. Its unpleasant and I hate it but I would never say anything as its his property and he has children so I would rather this than him smoke around his children.
