Saw this on BBC News on the 7th: “ Most cruise ships are not registered where they do business, in the USA and Europe, but offshore in places like Panama and the Bahamas. The industry does that for two reasons - it saves a fortune in tax, and it means that they don't have to follow American or European labour laws. This allow the companies to recruit cheap workers from developing countries, pay them less, and work them harder.“

kazzyhowrd the reason I asked was because a lot of people were saying that they were better than flying to a destination and I wondered what the real extent of that was. It's the sort of argument my parents would come up with despite having flown to join the vast majority of their cruises. When we were in Dubrovnik ( yes we did fly there) there were an awful lot of American & Japanese/ Chinese passengers and they certainly didn't drive there. Ditto our French/Dutch/Scandi friends don't drive to Somewhere like Barcelona to join.
