Delivery slots

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 01/04/2020 06:32

How are people managing to get online supermarket delivery slots?

I previously used Ocado, Sainsbury's and Tesco's.

Nothing available not even click and collect.

I'm staying at my mum's at the moment but will be going back to my house in a few weeks time permanently with my 2 year old toddler. No slots available even for 2-3 weeks times

I really don't want to leave the house with him. He has tantrums when is in the shopping trolley and I can't walk him as he won't observe social distancing and rolls around on the floor. I also don't want to risk getting ill and having to look after him alone.

No partner to help.

Any ideas on the best times to get the slots?

Check super early or late. I just checked ASDA and there were a few available.

I’ve managed to get several for the next couple of weeks.

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 01/04/2020 06:37

@Sexnotgender thanks just went on the ASDA site after seeing your post. Nothing on there. They must be getting snapped up quickly.

Beats me. I'm trying to get one for my grandma, as she lives 25 miles from me and I'm heavily pregnant. Checking Asda and Tesco several times a day, but can't get one yet.

Figrollsaplenty · 01/04/2020 06:38

How far away is your mum, could she look after him while you go, or could you take him at 19.00pm, I know its late but it might not be so busy.

Could he play with something or have a snack while sat in the trolley?

I cant get any deliveries either, & have to take DD Sad

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 01/04/2020 06:43

@figrollsaplenty she lives 2 hours away.

It's so difficult. Toddler just doesn't understand personal hygiene.

A few months ago he licked the seat on a busy train. Pre lockdown he would press his nose and lips against shop windows and blows.

Even if I give him my phone or snacks in the trolley he will possibly lick the trolley handle or just touch everything.

Tesco: last night I set an alarm for 11:55, opened the app and joined a queue. The app put me through at about 12:02. At first it looked like all the slots had gone, but when i went on click and collect and then back on delivery all the slots were available and I managed to get one for 3 weeks time.

Oblomov20 · 01/04/2020 06:46

None. I've been checking sporadically, sometimes early morning, sometimes Kate St night. for Sainsbury's and Tesco.
There hadn't been any available for the last 3 weeks.
None available for next 3 weeks. No click and collect. Nothing.

At all. Zero.

actiongirl1978 · 01/04/2020 06:46

2 or 3am is when I got my Tesco click and collect, and two weeks ago I got 3 ocado dates which are still being honoured. Can't see any future ocado dates though.

MsChatterbox · 01/04/2020 06:46

P.s. I checked back at 12:35 and all the slots had gone!

Clutterbugsmum · 01/04/2020 06:49

Have no idea, my mum booked one about 3 weeks ago, hence why my mum, sister and I have added to the order. God knows when we will be able to do it again.

I just keep checking every day in the hope I'm lucky to be able to get one.

runningwoman1980s · 01/04/2020 06:50

I got one when I looked at daft o clock one night when I couldn't sleep. It's coming this morning but about 20 items missing so I'm having to pop out shopping again this morning.

SpillTheTeaa · 01/04/2020 06:52

I managed to get an Iceland one yesterday for today.
Went into Asda about 5am booked a click and collect for 2 weeks time. Took about 20 minutes to edit my basket and add some items in. Went to check out and my slot 'has expired'... you usually get 1hr for your slot to be reserved.
Asda have been the worse in all of this. They are not prioritising the elderly or vulnerable when they put slots up at midnight for everyone to grab.

SpillTheTeaa · 01/04/2020 06:53

I meant on to not into

moveandmove · 01/04/2020 07:05

Tesco's are released at midnight so you'll need to log on then and join a queue.

Nonagoninfinity · 01/04/2020 07:10

We have managed but only by constantly checking at strange times of the day and night. We've also managed to sort / share slots for my mum too. Slots seem to appear randomly and then disappear as quickly so you need to be super quick and very persistent.

To be honest though if you check your local Facebook group (depending on where you live) you might find that wholesalers, restaurants, greengrocers, cafes, bakers, butchers and even pubs are offering delivery services.

Much of the stuff we can't get from supermarkets (like eggs, flour and tinned tomatoes) is readily available from other places and delivered much quicker too. I'm planning to do more of my shopping with these guys from now on to support local businesses, sharing slots with neighbours for the wholesale places who have min order limits. Good luck!

Fallsballs · 01/04/2020 07:21

Do you have any smaller shops where you live ? Our local businesses are setting up online delivery services which keeps them in business and everyone safe. Milkmen are even starting up again.
I’ve given up with the major supermarkets now.
Check online or on local Facebook sites.

Fallsballs · 01/04/2020 07:22

And as a PP said I’m continuing using the local businesses when this stops - the big stores here have been dicks imo.

Slipslide2020 · 01/04/2020 07:25

I got my Tesco one for 3 weeks time at just gone 2am (they were all showing unavailable at 12pm)

BananaPlant · 01/04/2020 07:28

Can’t get any slots. Nothing, zero.

Have you got a car? Can you do a big shop before you leave your Mum’s house and leave your toddler with her whilst you can. After that I don’t know. There are local shops doing delivery and click and collect. My local grocers and butchers are doing deliveries, look on your local fb pages for help. There are also local groups set up.

In what way?

Fallsballs · 01/04/2020 08:04

Well imo they’ve let people hoard and inadvertently created panic buying and I cannot get a delivery slot. I fall short of the vulnerable or elderly demographic and yet I’m alone with kids. It has made me realise I shouldn’t have relied on them so much as everything I need is available locally.
Yes I am aware you could argue the supermarkets didn’t start people’s panic buying but they haven’t suffered financially out of all the hoarding either.

Luc1nda · 01/04/2020 08:11

I don't see how supermarkets can be held responsible for people hoarding (how would they know?) or how they've created panic buying (what evidence do you have that they did?) or how they can create more delivery slots if they haven't got the resources.

By not supporting small businesses, markets and high streets, we are far more to blame.

Bestbe · 01/04/2020 08:15

Ocado in London is in free fall. Sainsbury’s I was online checking at midnight... when they put the new day on the slots we’re all gone. There are no delivery slots or click and collect.
Once this is over I’m cancelling my Ocado smart pass.

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 01/04/2020 08:24

I keep checking all of them several times a day. I managed to get a Morrisons delivery one in three weeks time but I'll run out of food before then.
